Article by Eric Pincus on Ingram not being a fit with the Lakers as constructed.

Here’s the relevant part

Olshey never gonna do it anyway, but it’s definitely something I would.
I wonder if he means after the first week of free agency. I still don't see the Lakers using cap space on a guy like CJ unless they get desperate after missing out on a bunch of star free agents. All of their other bigger contracts (except LeBron and Ball) are expiring.

That would be my guess. The Lakers are holding out for a top FA in July. Then they don't have to give up anything.

CJ MCCollum, Meyers Leonard, Caleb Swanigan, 2019 1st

For

Harris, Harrell, and Marjanovic/Williams

I would do CJ for Ingram + one of Kuzma and Hart in a heartbeat. Olshey would not agree to this in a million years though.

He would do that in a heart beat because he would also save 17 million in cap space in the process.

I would make this trade yesterday, but.

The $$$ do not work. The total salaries would need to be within $5 million. The lakers would need to add $13.3+ million in salaries to fit with CJ's max contract.

Not sure how we can trade CJ's max contract for 2 rookie scale players? Adding more players gets very messy.

The Laker's plan this summer is to be far enough under the cap to add a big contract. I don't think they have to match in that case.

They would need to add KCP on their side and we could add one of our lower paid players I think, like Swanigan, just as a salary filler.

Lakers won't want CJ though.

Find a way to send Turner+Harkless or Meyers to Atlanta for Bazemore and Lin.

Hmmmm. Yuck? I'd rather have Harkless (or Meyers) than Bazemore. But I'd rather have Lin than Turner. So...conflicted.

We basically have two guards now and Lin would be a nice backup for both Dame and CJ. You bring a guy capable of making plays and scoring off the bench and if it doesn't work he just walks and clears cap or you can sign him for less. Bazemore has an equally bad contract with Turner. I m tired of Turner though, it's going nowhere. Why would you prefer Meyers I don't understand. It's not that Bazemore deserves his contract but he is a much better player.

Id love to have Harris and Harrell not sure Clips would deal unless you included Nurk & CJ? and give me sweet Lou instead of Marj!
Isn't Harris a UFA after this year?

Magic is like Riley always was, likes taller guards.

For CJ and a first they should, though they would probably want hark over Meyers

How about going after Thompson & Hood .
I really think a guy like Hood would help this team. Occurs it would need to be addition by subtraction.

Harrell is very very good as a bench big, very good. And Harris I dare say is better than CJ. SweetLou is very good as well. This trade is too good to be true and I don't think just a 1st would the trick. They don't really have a reason to do this as they have the cap space to sign a max FA anyway so they want their team to keep the good pieces. And Harrell,SweetLou have extremely valuable contracts for what they are.

The more I think about it the less sense it makes, they won't give up FA just for CJ. Harris can be maxed after they sign their FAs, CJ eats a lot of cap.

The Clips love Harris and Harrell too. I can' see them going anywhere.

Portland Out: Harkless, Leonard
Portland In: Gallinari, Skal Labisserie

Sacramento Out: Skal
Sacramento In: Harkless

Clippers Out: Gallinari
Clippers In: Leonard

This only works, obviously, if the Clippers are interested in creating as much space as possible for next season, they shed an additional 11 million off of their cap, giving them a little over 60 million in space next offseason.

Not bad!

At that point though I wonder if Sacremento would just offer Randolph for Gallinari.

I think the ship might have sailed on Harkless to Sacramento without a pick attached. If you were Sacramento and were the only team with cap space to take on a bad contract would you use it on Harkless with nothing else coming in?

Very true. Though, would they want to commit that much money to him next season? The difference for us and them is, Randolph is an expiring, so they're taking on his full salary for next year, for us, we're basically replacing 2 smaller salaries with his larger one.

If theyd be willing to commit $11M to Harkless I think theyd be willing to commit $22M to Gallo.
