Yeah if he’s good enough to be 70% of CJ then I would pull the trigger but I don’t think this will be an option. I don’t think we can afford a $70million backcourt of Dame and CJ though unless Little and Collins develop into a very, very good 3 and 4 rotation quite soon. To be fair with Collins I would really like him to be a 25 mpg player at least next season already, third year is a good time to start contributing more.

Seriously i prefer losing CJ for free than having that backcourt locked for 70M per year. He will be untradeable if he gets a 4 year max at 30 years old.
 
Something to consider is the cash available in trades. Portland could give almost half of Mo’s or Leonard’s contract in cash at the time of the trade. Getting Mo for tax payer mle $ makes it a lot easier to swallow. Only for a year as well so reset for next year.

I think between the 3 Leonard is the most likely to be around for the first part of the year. I think Portland offloads Mo + cash to sign Hood. Then has ET and ML to try and make a bigger trade come trade deadline.

I’d rather have Moe for one year at $11M (plus bird rights) than spend $80M or whatever on Harrison Barnes.

I don't disagree... but the problem with this suggestion is, if the SF market is so scarce for a serviceable player - where/how are we going to find someone at least as good as Harkless to replace him?

I'm guessing Hood/Layman/Little would be more than enough at SF.

Agree. It’s already difficult enough to build around one supermax player. To have second in the backcourt making the max will make it almost impossible.

I think it’s key to have at least 3 guys contributing on rookie scale deals and 1-2 bargain contracts that are running for 2-3 more years (up to $8million a year). See Siakam, OG, VanVleet and Powell as examples on Toronto team (Kawhi making just $18million was a big help too). We haven’t had it for a while, hope we can get there soon.

I think Philly would rather just let Tobias walk in that situation.
 
I mentioned this in another thread but I'm going to expand on it more here:

Trade Leonard and Harkless to Charlotte for Bismack Biyombo which saves us $5.8 million next year. Leonard and Harkless are a slight enough upgrade for the Hornets to do this without needing to add additional assets or picks.

That gives us a total salary of $124,996,698 with:
Dame
CJ
Baze
Nurk
Biyombo
Collins
Simons
Trent
Skal
Little (est $2.2 million)
Layman ($1.9 QO)

Full-MLE expected to be $9,246,000 if we used all of it we'd have a salary of $134,242,698 with 12 players.

Estimated Tax Apron $138,000,000

After using the Full-MLE we'd have $3,757,302 to sign 3 more players. I don't know about that, we'd be cutting it super close.

What about this though:
Sign Hood to a 3 year $21 million contract instead of the Full-MLE. Maybe he'd take that because he liked it here and it's more than the Tax-MLE. Sign Layman to a 1 year deal (or multi year, doesn't really matter) for $3 million. That puts our salary at $133,096,698.

That gives us $4,903,302 to sign 3 vet mins to fill out the roster. Still not sure about this, just kind of thinking it through out loud.

The cap space they'd have in that situation would be more valuable than having to take on a bunch of salary filler, in my opinion.

Possibly, I could see them going for Middleton, Klay, or Bogdanovic if they lose Harris and Butler.

Meyers makes sense and is a good fit at backup C which they need. Galloway is solid, and they don't have much guard depth.

If Tobias takes a while and they keep his cap hold and other free agents get snatched up, then they might.

There was a report Ross is one of their targets.

I think Meyers and Galloway are bad players for their level. Especially Galloway is terrible. Cannot shoot, cannot pass, cannot play D on an average level.
And I'm not sure why Tobias would choose Portland over Philly because that is the suggestion here.

Meyers would be perfect with Simmons though.

Galloway is average at pretty much everything. He ranks out well in RPM.
 
Just because of the shooting you say he this hata perfect fit though. The only thing he does well because he is negative on many areas. I think they can find better options with less than 11M. Better to just develop Bolden.

Yeah. You have a great-passing PG who's 6'10 and a major matchup problem hes really good at working inside. Surrounding Simmons with as much shooting as possible is a recipe for success. Finding a big that can shoot like Leonard very hard. Having that allows Simmons to punish midmatches inside. Again, if Harris' free agency goes long and theres not many good targets left, it makes sense for Philadelphia from a fit standpoint, and they get compensated with young and future assets.
 
Also, if Philadelphia goes over the cap resigning their own guys, then they could add talent and assets that they couldnt otherwise.

I have to agree that Meyers as a backup would allow them to run the same pick and pops they do for Embiid. Trent could be a good shooter for them, and they need those, and the picks are always nice to have. They take on short term salary and a bunch of young assets. That's a good deal for most teams.

For

Mikal Bridges and Aron Baynes

It saves us about $1.5 million, Baynes is an okay fill in for Nurk, and Mikal is another young wing to add to the mix.
