And with that; I proposed this trade!

Atlanta sends us Horford
We send Atlanta M. Leonard and Batum

Why would Atlanta do this? Well they are rebuilding and the upside of Leonard is fine for a rebuilding team. They can have a good 2nd string wing in Batum that can give you good production; while they tank the fuck out of next season for the Wiggins sweepstakes.

Why would we do it? Do you really even have to ask?

Starters: Lillard, CJ, Claver, Aldridge and Horford looks pretty good to me.

Claver really isn't an NBA 3.

Atlanta receives: N. Batum and Asik

Houston sends: Asik
Houston receives: Freeland, Will Barton and 5 mil in cap space.

Portland sends: N. Batum, Freeland and Barton
Portland receives: Horford and an additional 2 mil in cap space.

Portland's added 2 mil will put us at 6 mil to offer another player. Pairing Horford and Aldridge would be a dynamic duo.

Houston can use the 5 mil in space to lure a decent free agent PF. Freeland may be decent enough to be a 2nd string PF and Barton helps their wing discrepancy.

Atlanta would do it because they are in tank mode and want a dynamic wing. They have a good offensive PF; which works better with Asik, plus a strong wing.

Seriously think if Houston offers AK-47 5 mil and he accepts? Maybe offering a younger contract player for Ryan Anderson. They would be in good shape to find a stretch 4 to play alongside Howard.

As for Atlanta... They would have a younger Batum and Asik; which isn't bad for an all-star.

portland would probably be considered the winner of this draft, in terms of talent in return; but it's not bad.
 
Oh and did I mention that Horford is on the 2nd year of his 5 year deal?

The cap space. Free agents will swoop right in to play with that winning franchise. What if it was AK-47, Freeland and Barton for Asik? Or they could grab Jermaine Oneal + AK-47.

There aren't any free agents who are as valuable as Asik at this point. Mags, I get that you're a homer about our team, but you need to at least be realistic about other teams. Asik is one of the best young defensive centers in the league. You realize how hard it is to acquire young defensive centers who can average a double double? Houston isn't going to just hand him off for nothing. They've got Dwight now. If they do move Asik, it will be for value, not for cap space.

The only way I see this trade happening is if Houston gets Matthews/Leonard and Atlanta gets Asik/Batum, but you realize that opens up some huge gaping holes in our starting lineup?

Let's say you start CJ at shooting guard, and have Watson as the primary backup point guard. Who starts at small forward? We would have some cap space at that point, but there's not a lot of options still out there.

I would still do that as well. Horford, Aldridge and Lillard is a dynamic trio. And in your scenario, we would have roughly 8 mil more in cap space to fill the void.

Yes they are, but who do you get to fill in at SF? Wright? Let's say we got with a starting lineup of Lillard/CJ/Wight/Aldridge/Horford, our bench is once again extremely weak.

With that deal; we would have 4 mil left from our previous signings and 8 mil from this trade. That gives us 12 million to fill the void. You don't expect us to be able to fill the holes? Also, we still would have T Rob and Lopez.

There has to be players to sign if you have cap space. Who are you getting to fill the void? Most of the bigger names are gone.

WHY would you need bigger names?

How about AK-47, Mo Williams, Barbossa and Chancey Billups. I bet you could get all 3 for a 12 mil space.

AK-47 is too old to play small forward... wasn't he filling in for Love most of last season?

No he didn't. I think he moved to power forward, even in Utah. The guy isn't nearly as athletic as he once was. This isn't the guy who could put up 20/5/5/5/5

If you aren't impressed; there is still Brewer + Billups + Barbossa + Jermaine that could be had for 12 mil or less. Bench would be fine.
