Mann LOL it pisses me off to hear OHH HES GONNA BE MAD BC FRAIZER LEFT.. Dame can call him anytime he wants and hang out with him whenever he feels like it, hes not a bitch he understands the business. I've always said Dame is one of the best leaders ive ever seen lead a team, he'll swag this whole move out better than Olshey the next time a microphone is in his face

Well, twice there was documented proof that Lillard was upset, so I can understand why someone would think that then... but not now.

Hopefully Tim gets to sign overseas and actually start somewhere for a team. He'd get paid in a place like China or Turkey

Varejao and Fraizer are gone. the roster spot is already there.
Follow the conversation. Denny was talking about the Blazers having the option to waive Varejao now or in the summer. I said we'd have to waive someone else in addition to waiving Frazier in order to preserve the option not to waive Varejao now.

Which, of course, won't happen.

Oh, whoops. My bad.

Excellent use of the cap space flexibility to get future picks and a solid backup PG.
Olshey stuck with his plan of adding assets that fit in Dame's window and didn't blow up the core he's assembled. He'll have a chance to do more major work at the draft and next summer.

I'm sorry, i like Roberts because he's a baller but i really don't like that Verajao trade, we lose cap space for a promise in the wind.

Funny I have the opposite take away.

Chasing a big free agent is the promise in the wind.

A 2018 draft pick is certain to have value in 6 months. No we won't get a starter next season; but Orlando opening up extra cap space is far more likely to end with nothing 6 months from now. It has a tiny remote chance of bringing in a difference maker.

From what I've seen, we took Orlando to the cleaners getting Mo Harkless...not sure what they are doing there

So overall....

Incoming:
2018 1st Round Pick from the Cavs
2021 2nd Round Pick from Miami
Cash Money from Orlando & Cleveland
Guard Brian Roberts from Miami
Forward Anderson Varejao from Cleveland (see outgoing...)

Outgoing:
Future 2nd Round Pick to Cleveland
Guard Tim Frazier waived
Froward Anderson Varejao waived
Cash Money to Miami

Was still hoping they'd move Meyers on, but I still believe Neil has the fortitude to laugh in his face come free agency negotiations and let him walk to some other over-paying team.

If we spend most of our cap on Meyers I'm 100% gonna burn something down.

NO before the media earlier today:

Neil said most the deals weren't rumored buttttttt varejao was definitely rumored ahead of time.

Great interview.

I'm surprised he said "it was Timmy or cliff"

Was that a flippant comment because cliff is a big?

Cause tbh, I would have cut Frazier, then Montero, then cliff or connaughton.

Just thought that was an interesting tidbit.

didn't we send out a second rounder in the varejao deal

No, that's not right. We lost our cap space for the rest of the season, which we are no longer eligible to use. In future seasons, the hit is spread out so that it is small. We DID NOT use up all our cap space - we will still have the ability to sign FAs. You may or may not understand this, but it's clear that some don't.

So, we got the pick for NOT using our cap space.

I wish the media was as in top of it as we were here; his moves seemed pretty obvious and straightforward once you saw them in context.
It was obvious that barring a trade that moves the needle that NO was going to basically trade cap space for future assets.

The Cavs would be 4th seed in the west. They really needed to shave off some of the harsh LT they are facing.

I like future draft picks. Maybe we win the title and the pick turns into #1. It's happened...

I like that Neil Olshey seems to be a man of substance...when he talks, he actually has something to say

Yep. The pick is top 10 protected for three years, so if the Cavs make the playoffs in 2017-18, we get it. But I don't think that's a lock. LeBron will be 34 in 2018, and I don't see him being able to carry a team at that age. So maybe we don't get the pick until it's unprotected in 2021. Dame will be 31, CJ will be 30, and a nice fat lotto pick then would be perfect timing.

His draft picks also give fantastic interviews; I wonder if that's part of his decision making process in the draft: if you can have a substantive conversation with Neil, you're on the short list.

I doubt its unprotected in 3 years... probably just turns into a second rounder similar to the pick we sent to Denver.

We can flip that pick just like we can trade a player...as somebody said..it's NBA currency

Anyone with ESPN insider tell us whether Pelton said we were "winners or losers." I know he had a positive tweet about us, I just want to know what he said in the article.

I believe it is Top-10 protected for 2 years and then turns into two 2nd round picks.
