I'm still a believer that this team needs a new leader. LMA is solid, but not really the leader type and doesn't have much of a killer instinct. Batum is worse in that regard. Real #1 leaders typically come high in the draft, and you can't get them as FAs.

Assuming we can't get D. Williams, or another big FA to fill that roll, what about trading both picks to move up and take a leader like MKG? I confess I didn't get to see much of him this year, but he seems to have some of the leadership skills this team lacks. He seems to have as much potential as a #1 as anyone, maybe followed by Beal.

It'll be a while before he's a real leader.

The kid just turned 19.

I'm down for that. I love his game. Great, great defensive player that gets it. Has a desire to win. Sign me up. Slide Batum to the 2. Matthews as 6th man.

he was supposedly the leader on the kentucky team. MY issue is,as much as maybe we need a leader, more, we need a #1 guy. Not leader #1, but guy who we can give the ball to to get uspoints. And MKG continually gets compared to Gerald Wallace. Not a #1 scorer.
I of course would not be upset with us getting MKG, but I think we need more scorer than leader.

Gerald Wallace in his prime was a helluva player. MKG is much more of a lockdown defender and takes it personally when his team loses.

Yeah, this is the big question. He is still very young, and driven, so he could end up being that guy. But, you would have to take it on faith.

And let's not forget that Brandon took over a leadership position pretty early on this team. The vacancy is still there and I think a young guy with skills and a solid work ethic could step in without too much trouble.

Sure. And I'd be happy to have him. I'm just saying he's not the type, much like Wallace, or at least has not shown to be the type that you give the ball to when you need a bucket. And we need that more than a guy to get in people's faces, IMO.

I thought we were clamoring for Aldridge to be our go to guy?

Lamb has the best chance of having that ability in the pros imo

Too easy to get the ball out of a big's hands late. Unless, obviously, he has ball handling skills like Dirk. Would prefer a go-to closer on the wing. Always have.

depends on what the NJ pick is. if (by chance) we get 5-6 something like Beal/Lamb + Sullinger would be pretty appealing

hopefully we'll be signing someone with established leadership potential as a FA

I agree with you. Thats one thing we haven't had since Roy and is a must to be successful in the NBA. The ability to put the ball on the floor is huge in the NBA.

Would much rather trade up for Beal - a legit scorer and shooter over an energy guy.

Glad you said it. Beal is the perfect fit for this team. I think the Blazers should do what it takes to get him, even if that includes both picks, a throw in player, and "cash consideration." Beal would solidify this teams SG position for years. Beal, Batum, and Aldridge would be a fun roster even before any FA signings.

andre miller? :ghoti:

I would not be unhappy with Miller and drafting Marshall. If Marshall could learn some of Miller's post moves that would be great.

MKG is not just an energy guy, but a team leader, who is an energy guy, who also has great physical tools and a desire to get better. I wouldn't complain about Beal either, but I'm afraid he may end up being a good scorer, but somewhat like Aldridge in lacking the killer instinct--and we could find ourselves still without that dagger guy.

I would just draft the two best players available regardless of position. If you can trade up using someone other than LMA or Batum i would be oK with that too.

But right now we have no guards on our roster that are worthy of ever starting. (unless you keep Batun at the SG) I would prefer drafting a PG and a SG/SF. But we need skill players. Lots of them.

I think they're talking about a civil rights leader whose birthday Arizona doesn't celebrate.
