Trades that "move the needle"

If I'm John Lennon, and I pick Gallinari and Bargnani to be at my side, with Felton on the drums, well just...shoot me.

Is that 25 wins this YEAR (as in by December 31, 2013) or this season? Such a lofty goal for a team with the second highest payroll in the league! The Blazers are on track to reach 25 wins before December 31, 2013 . The Knicks are barely on pace to reach 25 wins by December 31, 2014. Tell me again why we'd want to trade 3 of our starters for 2 of their's.

BNM

who said it was a goal? I was saying that in response to the idea that since they were 3-10 now that would continue for the whole season at that rate

I think you're exaggerating.

10-1 = .909
13-2 = .867

So, maybe one >, but not 8.

And what's really amazing is Paul Allen's football team has more wins than both NY football teams combined.

Based on the 13-2 record, I'd say Neal Olshey is doing a damn fine job. His off season acquisitions are a major reason for the Blazers great record.

even more amazing, Paul Allens basketball team has as many wins as the Knicks, Jets and Giants

I love Olshey. If anyone could bring another star to Portland it is him. If he can revive the Clippers he can do the same here. Honestly I don't even want Melo as bad as it may appear, just have to defend that he would be a valuable pickup for this team.

Well, two of them are. ;)

And two more are minor reasons. Thomas Robinson and Dorell Wright aren't playing big minutes, but they are still way better than anyone we had coming off the bench last season.

Certainly! In the game thread I commented how awesome it was to put in our 3rd string PG and have him come out with a +1 after 12m of play! Imagine that after last year where our 2nd string PG would have had a -infinity after 4 minutes!

Earl Watson would have been our best bench player last year.

Meyers Lenoard was our best bench player last year. Gosh its nice having him on the 3rd string.

I'm beginning to think that most of us around here have been guilty of undervaluing the Blazers' core guys. I'm not certain that there's a need for a "move the needle" trade. I think they're doing a damned good job of moving the needle on their own...with a little help from an actual NBA bench this year. Frankly, there's a lot of similarity between the top 3 teams that are leading in the NBA standings as of right now. The Pacers, Spurs and Blazers are all playing team basketball and aren't feeding a bunch of superstar egos. Maybe we've been oversold on that model.

I think the new model is:

Plan A: Have LeBron in his prime
Plan B: Have a damn good TEAM

Any of these players will cost this team a starter + depth.

So they really wouldn't move the needle that much, if at all.

Would you be interested in Noah for Leonard, McCollum and Claver?

CHI wouldn't do that.

Trading CJ without knowing what you have is a mistake waiting to happen. A real scorer/shooter with a brain is rare these days.

Neil will have to pull an under-the-radar move to move the needle without giving up a lot - the bench is thin as it is.

McCollum is likely our best bench player. Do not trade him for anyone.

Serious question here: Would Omer Asik move the needle? Why or why not?

Serious question here: Would Omer Asik move the needle? Why or why not?

Yes but only if

1) you get him for little cost
2) you keep Lopez
3) Asik and Lopez can come to a friendly agreement on play time and not have either of them mope like little kids.

absolutely. A package around Lopez+Leonard would be fine with me. Freeland has really impressed me this year playing the backup center role. I think Leonard could flourish next to Howard, he may be more suited to the 4 spot on that team anyways

why do you keep insisting I'm a troll or not a blazer fan? Because of a disagreement on melo? lol come on

Prove it. In the 1990 WCFs, who did we play and who bobbled the pass after drexler's steal in the last minutes of game 6?

Iirc he is an UFA this summer...

The 5'10" Isaiah Thomas is the type of instant offense/change of pace guy I'd like off the bench.

Efficient scorer with an improving 3pt shot, also has a career 18.1 PER.
