Derozan hasn't given any indication that he wants to leave Toronto, so I'm not sure why he's continually brought up.

The indication didn't come from the DeRozan camp, it came from the team. They were supposedly looking at moving him before the season started because they didn't think he was worth the max.

Two reasons: First, because there are slim pickins at SG. Second, because he's continually brought up.

Sure trade him if you can get someone better. Not for someone as good as CJ, but someone who is actually better.
And of course that player needs to also want to play in Portland and can't be a free agent this summer. I don't think you can find a player who meets that criteria, because I think CJ is really good. But if you can, go for it.

As for the whole "too short" argument......not buying it. For the few scenarios where he may get abused because of his height, just play Crabbe more minutes at SG. Not a big deal in my mind.

I also don't care if he starts or comes off the bench. I just know that I want him shooting the ball. In watching the Blazers for the last 45 years, CJ is already in my top 20, for best pure shooters. I feel really confident every time he puts it up.

I wrote this last year when people were talking about not wanting to trade Batum. You can't fall in love with your own players. But you also need to get value for them. CJ can score in so many ways, and that has enormous value. I have been a fan of his since he was in college, I loved it when we drafted him, and I am glad we're seeing him come into his own.

But if trading him as part of a deal that gets us say DeMarcus Cousins, I would do it in a heartbeat. It all just depends what I am getting in return.

I agree with this generally, but one of my many inner voices says Boogie is a team/chemistry/organization nightmare.

Id much rather go after Whiteside than Boogie. Rather go after Drummund in a trade than Boogie.

Whiteside is a UFA, so no point trading for him. Drummond is untouchable. That will never happen. Supposedly Boogie is available.

Why not have both?

Both Whiteside and Drummond, sure. Just not into Boogie. Im a huge George Karl fan and watched him with the Sonics for years. He is a great, easy going coach. IF you cant get along with him you will have issues with most coaches.

Also, if the Blazers are ever going to be a championship caliber team, they are going to need someone like CJ (and Aminu) coming off the bench. What we need is a bigger starting SG and a better starting SF. While keeping CJ and Aminu.
I wouldn't be surprised if we offered max offer sheets to Beal and H.Barnes at the same time this off-season. We likely we don't get either, but hell, we might get both. (Barnes is more likely IMO) We pursue Whiteside before hand and if he signs we only offer Barnes.

A lot of his former players haven't gotten along with him.

Yall don't wanna give the max to Batum, but wanna give it to Derozen?!

I'd rather have 16/7/5 on 42%/38% with good defense compared to 22/4/4 on 44%/27% with mediocre defense...

One player has been consistently pretty good over his career, and has continued to improve. The other has not.

Derozens favorite shot is in between 16ft and the 3 point arc, which he shoots about 34% on. He can't space the floor at all, and isn't a good defender. I'll take the guy with better intangibles who can make his teammates better offensively and his team better defensively.

I'd trade CJ for Paul George or Bradley Beal in a heartbeat but that's not an easy sell

Honestly the trade would have to blow me away in order to trade Cj. This guy arguably might be better than Lillard by the end of the season.

Portland has two competent players and you want to trade one of them.

The Blazers shouldn't trade him at this point. We would have to get his full value in a trade and there just isn't a lot of options out there, because the other team involved would have to give up something good for him

Neil knows better than to go the Batum route with CJ and get less value back...it just doesn't make sense to do...other teams would probably only offer us subpar players and crappy picks

Understood. Id still rather go after Whiteside than Boogie. :)

WHYYY? you do realize it was attitude problems with whiteside that got him to miami right? Boogie may be a bit of sheed on the court but at least he means well and it comes from how competitive he is. Whiteside is just Bynum 2.0 just waiting to happen. There are 2 people in the NBA who I would trust with whiteside Pat Riley and Greg Popavich. Do your research on the guy he is a BIGGER headcase than Boogie with exponentially less talent!

WHITESIDE IS NOT THE ANSWER! YOU WILL ALL REGRET IT IF WE SIGN HIM.

“Immature” is the word you hear most often associated with Whiteside both on and off the court, as there will certainly be a large degree of hand-holding and coddling that whichever team drafts him needs to do in order to help him reach his full potential. There are major questions about his work ethic and intensity level, which is a bit concerning considering how far off he currently is from being able to contribute to an NBA team. We also need to keep in mind that despite his freshman status, he’s the same age as many college juniors, turning 21 this upcoming June. This obviously limits his upside to a certain degree.

If were gunna pick a headcase I want the perennial allstar headcase NOT Whiteside

I didn't know Whiteside was such a headcase. I know he bounced around, but I thought it was because of bad fits.
What I dont want is any head case that is going to try to challenge Dame as leader of this team. The team I think is very fragile right now, and we need good heads that are about the team.
So after reading your links, agreed. I dont want Whiteside either.

If the NBA was a poker game, Dame and CJ are a pair of aces.

Why break up a strong pair to trade for a player who’s fit on the team is un-knowable? That would be like trying to fill an inside straight.

Hold your pair of aces and keep drawing cards. The next step is two pairs, or three of a kind. Then go for a full house, or 4 of a kind.

I like to play with wilds so I can get a five of a kind!!!

But great analogy!!
