BLAZERS TO HOST PLAYOFF RALLY ON APRIL 16

Tickets for first two games of ‘Rip City Uprise’ to go on sale that same day

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland Trail Blazers will tip-off the postseason on Thursday, April 16, with an afternoon rally (exact time TBD) in Pioneer Square, allowing fans to wish their team well before the Trail Blazers embark on their first playoff appearance since 2003.

Earlier Thursday, at noon, tickets will go on sale for the first two home games of the “Rip City Uprise” - a.k.a. the 2009 NBA Playoffs – at the Rose Garden. Less than 1,000 tickets are expected to be available for each game. Tickets will be sold exclusively at the Rose Quarter box office, with a maximum of four total tickets available to each customer.

“The rally gives us an opportunity to thank the NBA’s best fans,” Trail Blazers CMO Sarah Mensah said, “It’s a chance to celebrate an incredible season, wish the team luck and build the excitement before the playoffs get started.”

The 2009 NBA Playoffs begin on April 18 and 19. The Trail Blazers first-round opponent and game dates and times will be determined no later than April 15, after the conclusion on the NBA’s regular season schedule.

The Portland Trail Blazers currently have a record of 50-28, and are on pace for their best regular-season finish since the 1999-2000 season. On April 5, they clinched a playoff spot for the 27th time in their 39-year history.

Mod - maybe edit the title to include the fact that this also includes playoff ticket info?

I'm going to go. What the hell, I have nothing else to do right now other than look for jobs that don't exist. I think I'll bring my youngest daughter as well.

1000 tickets each game? Holy shit! That is going to be bedlam.

Rally update

**RALLY UPDATE**

The Trail Blazers RIP CITY UPRISE rally, in Pioneer Courthouse Square, will take place from noon-3 p.m. The event, which will feature music, contests, giveaways, video entertainment and appearances by alumni ambassadors, will be emceed by Trail Blazers play-by-play voice Mike Barrett and will feature an appearance by the entire Trail Blazers team and coaching staff at approximately 2 p.m.

hopefully this is after work hours.. if so I'll make the drive!

I wonder if they'll fuck over people by having a lottery for tickets again. Before the start of the 99-2000 WCF, I sat outside the Rose Garden all night with like 20 other guys... And then in the morning they only handed out tickets for a lottery to determine in which order people would buy tickets. It was SUCH bullshit.

I realize they have to do it during the week (and during the day), but seriously..some of us have jobs you know. We can't go during work.

Oh man, that is hella weak sauce, did you win the lotto at least?

Someone should find out if its going to be a lottery or not. If it is, there is no reason to get there much earlier than 11.

Why not have the main part of the rally from noon-1 when most people can take off for lunch?

I'm surprised how many people are able to find the negatives in having a rally and making tickets available to the public.

No it wasn't. I won tickets! Muahahahahahahahaha! That was a hell of a game too!

Weather looks decent for Thursday!

I agree, people are getting way to pissy about the time of the rally.

Someone would bitch regardless of what time it was. Cant make everyone happy.

Does anyone know if it's a lottery or first come first serve? I don't want to camp out for no reason.

So in this whole thread I dont see an exact time.. just people fretting about what time it could be at.. but no answer that I see (I could be missing it.. its still morning lol) can someone help me out? nevermind I found it.. doy

I just talked the Blazers and the deal with tickets is 1st come 1st served. Apparently an email just went out internally that said people would be allowed to start lining up at 6am. ...not sure how they control that, but that's what the Blazers official policy is.

See Ya There!

Yeah, like Blazer Hippie said.. on Wheels show they said there's going to be 24-hour security on the RG premises, and lines can start forming at 6 a.m. No camping is allowed either, they'll kick you out.

people are gonna get there way before 6am, they are just gonna form a line outside of the rose quarter area and migrate at 6. If you think people won't be there waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay before, think again.

I'll have my running shoes on!

Am I the only one who thinks this whole rally thing is a bit amateur. At one point we made the playoffs consecutively more than any team in pro sports, I might be wrong on this, but a rally just for making it is a bit dumb. We need to act like we've been there before.

I think it's just what makes Portland, Portland. We're not like any other NBA city, and we may do weird stuff like this but we don't care what other cities think. We take pride in being unique.

We've suffered enough the past five years that it's cool to get a rally going to add excitement to the city. The whole town seems excited with Rip City back.

I don't think you'll see these rallies every year, but it reminds me of how the Blazers held rallies at Pioneer Square in the early 90s for making it to the Finals. I don't think any other team did things like that after losing.
