Trail Blazers acquire 34th overall pick from G.State

This trade makes absolutely no sense unless it's part of a bigger picture.

Sending over 1 million to a team for a non guaranteed 2nd rounder makes no sense at all. 10 spots in the second round, even in the deepest of drafts, isn't that big of a deal.

This has to be a case where some team said they would make a deal if the Blazers had a better pick in round 2 or something. That is the only way I can see this making any sense for Portland. Maybe this is part of KP's big job saving deal or something? For a team that's rebuilding, like Philly, Toronto or NJ, having multiple draft picks is a good thing. The higher the better. Portland DOES NOT NEED more young players, or guys to stash over seas

Be afraid. We're thinking alike.

If the DX twitter report is accurate, neither Gani Lawal or Trevor Booker are going to be there @ #44. While @ #34, there's a chance you could at least trade up to get them if someone takes them before you or they will be there to take more than likely.

DING DING DING DING!

That's funny. That's the same sound your wife makes in this one possition. :D

All kidding aside, I think most think that. Do you have any knowledge of anything?

Paying over 1 million for either of those guys is stupid though. This has panic written all over it. Like a pick that NEEDED to be acquired

If we had to pay ~$3million for buying picks at the end of the first round buying a pick for ~$1million in the early second sounds like a reasonable price.

I like this move for the reasons that it shows KP won't be a lame duck GM eventhough he thinks he maybe on the way out and PA is giving KP some leeway.

Last year the Blazers moved up in the second round and did not package the move. Second round picks have value because the contracts are not guarenteed. Moving up in the seond round could indicate they are targeting someone they want to try out for a year. I hope it is to package the pick, but that isn't what it meant last year.

Man, KP DID swing for the fences.

Let's see PA fire him after this blockbuster.

1 million to PA is like 100 bucks to us. Even I would pay 100 to have the Blazers move up in the second round.

It's fun to have the richest owner in the NBA

Quick just said this isn't tied into another deal, at this point, after exchanging texts with Pritchard. He also said that doesn't mean it won't be attached to a deal in the next few days. Nothing was imminent, though.

Some thoughts:

1. As a Blazers fan, I gotta love it. It's not MY money, and presumably there will be a better prospect there at 34 than at 44. It also demonstrates that the Blazers and Paul Allen are willing to keep writing checks.
2. As a Warriors fan, I'd be upset. C'mon. The team isn't good enough to be selling off assets for inferior ones.
3. I'm not sure that the deal can't be made just for what it is. Why COULDN"T it be? Too high of a cost for the Blazers? Or too little in return for the Warriors?

Ed O.

Apparently, GSW made this move so they can pick up the player they want later in the second round: Omar Samhan

Sergio, 37 and cash to cover Sergio's salary got us the #31.

L*kers sold the #29 for 3M.

#36 was sold for $1M and a conditional 2011 2nd.

If KP is really trying to broker a deal to bring a big time player here -- say a point guard (wishful thinking says Paul, slightly less wishful thinking says Harris or Tony Parker). Then presumably Bayless and or Miller would part of the outgoing package (along with maybe Joel and Rudy) which means there could be a pretty big hole at backup point guard, so maybe the Blazers think they can take a flier on Armon Johnson (if he's there) or Mikhail Torrance to fill the third point guard spot and an Earl Watson type will get picked up with the bi-annual exception to give the team a veteran guy off the bench while young dude learns and hopefully eventually becomes good enough to be a rotation player.

Whatever the case, I like the team's options a little better at 34 than I do at 44 and if Allen is willing to shell out the dough for the privilege then so be it, it's not my money.

She's also constantly talking about too much depth.

But at least her "game" isn't predicated on a "small" forward standing in a corner by himself

I think you're right. Second round players are always a risk anyway, and I can't believe there's some really hot prospect just waiting for us at #34.

I think we intend to actually use this pick on a player we want. Just take a look at this graphic from BlazersEdge.

No one in the top 20, and only one in the top 30. Maybe there is a gem that the scouts have targeted (that is below the 30th rank) and want a good chance at getting him, so KP &co. decided to move up???

C'mon you know who is filling the hole at the point...
