TRAIL BLAZERS ASSIGN CLIFF ALEXANDER AND LUIS MONTERO TO D-LEAGUE’S SANTA CRUZ WARRIORS

Portland rookies to join NBA Development League team

PORTLAND, Ore. (March 10, 2016) The Portland Trail Blazers have assigned rookie forward Cliff Alexander and rookie guard Luis Montero to the NBA Development League’s Santa Cruz Warriors, pursuant to the flexible assignment rule, it was announced today by president of basketball operations Neil Olshey.

Alexander, 20, is averaging 1.4 points (5-10 FG), 0.9 rebounds and 4.5 minutes in seven games this season. He signed with Portland as an undrafted free agent on July 24, after spending one collegiate season at the University of Kansas in 2014-15.

A native of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, Montero is producing 1.9 points (38.5% FG, 20.0% 3-PT, 100.0% FT), 0.3 rebounds, 0.1 assists and 3.3 minutes in seven contests. He was signed on July 9 and competed on Portland’s 2015 NBA Summer League roster.

Alexander and Montero will be available for Santa Cruz on Saturday, March 12, when the team hosts the Los Angeles D-Fenders at 7:00 p.m. (Pacific).

The only reason I can think of for Sly typing the thread title in all caps is that this is the most exciting news he's read all month. He leads a boring life.

Darkwebs "Liked" Sly's post. Okay Darky, you know what this means. Even when the Santa Cruz game is on simultaneously with a Blazer game, you'll give it a beautiful original post the night before, and I'll watch both games on the same screen, and be the only one posting to the Santa Cruz game. Except that a couple of guys like Homer and Riverman might make token posts. Just like with Crabbe.

No way, unless you get Denny to double my pay.

The Blazers send me the press release, I copy and paste as sent. The all caps were them.

That's the problem nowadays, people not taking responsibility for their own actions. He did it, so I did it! Waaah!

Back in my day, we punched out anyone who copied something in all caps.

We don't talk about our pay in front of the newer posters. Ignore him, newer posters.
I look forward to your one man show. You are the play by play guy and the color guy all wrapped into one palatable package.

I've been praising your music since the ESPN days. It's like 60s psychedelic music, only improved. If I hadn't gone through 4 computers getting fried since you and I were on ESPN, I'd still have your old album that I loved. It's still on a backup drive, but I don't know how to load a backup drive with 120 gb of Windows XP stuff onto my current drive of Windows 8.1.

As for my play-by-play, my basketball IQ is too low to analyze plays, so I describe them like a basketball newbie would. So that I can type fast enough, I only describe plays involving the NBA send-down players, since they're the ones we're evaluating, the only reason we're watching.

Darkwebs gives threads that special dark allure that only he can. I bet he wears a tight little red miniskirt.

Thanks. I'll have to see if some of the old music still exists somewhere. If I can find it I'll send you a link or something. Can't wait to move back to portland and start on something new. I have some goodies stored inside of my brain.

Rasta mentioned it in another thread but you can watch these games for free live on YouTube

The oldest player on the team is Dan Nwaelele. I choose to pronounce it nwah-ell-ellie. I'm guessing he's either from Samoa or Somalia. Gotta be one of those two.

He is aged 32, a rookie to the D-League, and played at the Air Force Academy. You have to stay in, what, 4 years, no, I think it's 8 years since they gave you a free degree. By then you're a Captain, so you quit your $100,000 per year officer job, glamorously moving around the world, to give being a substitute in the D-League your full attention.

Here's the roster, sorted by age.

My favorite player may be Mac Koshwal, because I like his name. He's a 28-year-old rookie (it says "R") out of DePaul. After college, he must have needed 6 years of YMCA experience to now be a rookie at age 28. But then I look here and it says he has 2 years of experience.

You know, another thing to praise here is the talented webmaster who gives the D-League its shiny sheen. He makes Darkwebs look like we better keep Darkwebs.

I just want Luis and Cliff to light it up in Santa Cruz...show us what our assistant coaching staff is really made of...better in pairs ..when Crabbe went to the Stampede he seemed lonely, lethargic...off his game..these two will be like Martin and Lewis, Abbot and Costello, Hope and Crosby! Hall and Oates! Holmes and Watson!

Now I look at Nwaellellie's page and it says he has 2 years of experience. The roster page said R. I'm starting to think that they need a webmaster with that much experience. I don't know whether anything on that team roster page is accurate. All the guys listed as 6 foot 10 are probably really 5 foot 10. I don't want bad surprises, so I'll get mentally prepared for a midget wrestling game when I watch.

Who's on first? Elementary, my dear Watson.

The game is still days away and the jlprk commentary is already exploding forth in fantastic volumes. Jlprk is like a Spinal Tap amplifier. He goes to 11.

I had thought that this year we are unaffiliated with a D-League team, and all unaffiliated teams use the Fort Wayne Mad Ants. Yet despite Portland being closer to the Idaho and Reno teams, we sent Alexander and Montero to the Santa Cruz Warriors, affiliated with the Golden State Warriors.

This wouldn't be because the Blazers are in Golden State Friday night, would it? That makes it easy for some team rep to drive to the D-League game to evaluate the 2 Blazer players. That advantage won't last because the Blazers play in Portland the next night, Saturday.

I just checked the schedule and Santa Cruz doesn't play till Saturday. So that kills that theory. They play Saturday at 7:00 and Sunday at 6:00 Pacific Time, both in Santa Cruz.

So we're back to, why Santa Cruz, not closer teams (Idaho or Reno)? Or the Mad Ants, as announced before this season started?

I hear that Ted Cruz is winning in Santa Cruz. Motly Crues is from there.

Saturday, our game starts at 7 pm sharp. I want to see everyone there, not wasting time at the Blazer game starting at 7:30. And on Sunday, we play at 6 pm. The Blazers drop the pretense at competing with us that day. Be there or be square.

On Saturday, after Golden State runs up a 50-point lead early in the 2nd quarter, you might want to switch to a real game.

The two nights I can't watch a game...I'll have to catch the recap so I'll be square
