PORTLAND, Ore. (April 29, 2016) – After defeating the Los Angeles Clippers, 4-2, in the First Round, the No. 5 seed Portland Trail Blazers begin a series against the top seed Golden State Warriors in the 2016 NBA Western Conference Semifinals. All games in the series will be broadcast by Rip City Radio 620-AM and the Trail Blazers Radio Network, in addition to national television carriers.


Golden State will host Games 1 and 2 at ORACLE Arena – Sunday, May 1 at 12:30 p.m. (PDT) and Tuesday, May 3 at 7:30 p.m. (PDT). The Moda Center will be the site for Games 3 and 4 – Saturday, May 7 at 5:30 p.m. (PDT) and Monday, May 9 at 7:30 p.m. (PDT). If necessary, remaining games will be held Wednesday, May 11 (Golden State), Friday, May 13 (Portland) and Monday, May 16 (Golden State).


After falling behind the Clippers, 2-0, the Trail Blazers won four consecutive games to reach the Western Conference Semifinals for the second time in three seasons and 11th appearance in team history. Portland won four straight games in a series for the first time since the 1977 NBA Finals against Philadelphia.


Tickets for Games 3, 4 and 6 (if necessary) at the Moda Center will be available at 10 a.m. tomorrow (Saturday) at trailblazers.com (listed as Games A, B and C). A maximum of four tickets for each game are available to each customer, subject to availability. To guarantee access to playoff tickets, become a season ticket holder today. The NBA Playoffs bring an increase in ticket fraud on the secondary market. Fans are encouraged to protect themselves by purchasing tickets directly from the team.

Nobody knows exactly how long Curry will be out. He said Friday he will try to beat the two-week timetable. Certainly the Warriors would've loved for the Blazers-Clippers series to go 7 to allow Curry a little more time...Game 1 will be a week since the injury...if Curry were to be out two weeks on the nose, he would miss Games 1-3 and return for Game 4 in Portland on May 9...Portland, clearly, needs to make hay during that stretch...

2. The Warriors have to figure out how to stop the Blazers' 3-point shooting

The Warriors were the second-best team defending the 3-point shot this season, giving up just 33.2 percent from deep...Against Golden State, Portland shot a ridiculous 46.3 percent from 3-point range on just over 30 attempts per game. And they hit these 3s in a variety of ways -- 46 percent on pull-up 3-pointers, nearly 46 percent on catch-and-shoot -- so the Warriors can't just settle in on a particular attack...In those four games, the Blazers hit 36.4, 56.7, 52.3, and 37.5 percent from deep. Of the 123 3-pointers the Blazers attempted against Golden State, only 17 came from the corners. That shouldn't be a huge shock because the Warriors gave up the second-fewest corner 3-point attempts this season...Of those 123 attempts, only 15 were tightly or very tightly contested by the Warriors -- 63 of them were open (4-6 feet of room, according to SportsVu data), and 45 of them were with six or more feet of room. The Warriors, in short, have to contest better...

3. Portland has to contain Draymond Green and Klay Thompson

...Green and Thompson destroyed this Portland team...The Blazers took huge advantage of the Warriors when Green wasn't on the floor, outscoring them by 23.1 points per 100 possessions. But put Green back in the game, and the Blazers were helpless against the Warriors, who then outscored Portland by 21.3 per 100...The Warriors were destroyed with Thompson on the bench by 38.1 points per 100 possessions, but when he was on the floor the Warriors were 31.5 per 100 better than Portland...Thompson averaged 29.3 points in 31.8 minutes while shooting absurd percentages of 54.5/59.4/87.5...

7. Should the Warriors post Shaun Livingston against Damian Lillard?

Since we're going to have a few games with Livingston starting and Curry healing...They no longer have that initial blitz by the defense to get the ball out of Curry's hands and then the 4-on-3 advantage in the half court Steve Kerr loves his team to exploit. They'll have a more straightforward, man-against-man offensive system...The Warriors have been posting up a bit more in these playoffs due to Curry's absence, and Lillard is not exactly known as a great defensive point guard. Is it worth it for the Warriors to run some of that early offense through Livingston, who is annually one of the most efficient post scorers in the NBA?...Golden State...will probably use Draymond more in the post and Andrew Bogut passing out of the mid and high post. But they do have this height advantage inside with Livingston...

Then why are all the other games on weekdays with only 2 days apart?\

As a matter of fact it looks like the only other already scheduled 2nd round matchup which has a delay of more than 2 days is the time between game 6-7 of the Spurs-Thunder, which has 3 days off.

That's also why they are rushing us to start our series against GSW Sunday at 12:30. They want as many games on the weekends as possible. If they were really delaying things for Curry to get healthy, they would have pushed back the start of this series until Tuesday or Wednesday.

I actually think the long layoff between between Games 2 and 3 works in our favor. Hopefully, with Curry out we can steal a game at GSW, but if not those extra days off mean more time for Stotts and his staff to make adjustments and work on them in practice. We're still a young team learning as we go. We played our best ball this season after two breaks in the schedule that allowed increased practice time.

The first was in January, when the team had a stretch of only 4 games, all at home, over the course of 10 days. That gave the team a rare chance to get in a lot off practice time mid-season. Stotts focused on team defense during those extra practices and it paid off.

The second break was all star weekend. Yeah Dame gto snubbed but he used the time off to work on his shot. He'd been in a shooting slump but came out of the break on fire. He scored 30+ point in 7 of the next 9 games including 50+ two times. The snub may have provided the motivation, but results were due to the work he put in over the break.

As a result, we went 18-4 during that part of the schedule and played, by far, the best ball of the season. It was the turnaround at that time that transformed us from a lottery team to the 5th seed in the West. So, I'm thinking a little extra time off during a tough playoff series isn't necessarily a bad thing.
