How long before Gavin Dawson starts a "I'm down with Downs!" draft movement?

I would think there would be more names we would know here. Looks like another smoke screen. Bayless never worked out for us last year.

I like Temple. He's big and plays lockdown D. he can't really score, but he's good at the pick and roll.

Even though the Blazers have four open roster spots heading into next season, and five draft picks in this month's NBA draft, prospects -- and their agents -- are avoiding Portland like it's been striken with swine flu.

"We're fighting to get some of these kids in for workouts," said Chad Buchanan, the Blazers' director of college scouting.

Last summer, the Blazers held 15 separate predraft workouts during which they evaluated more than 50 prospects. On two occasions, the team held multiple workouts a day.

But this offseason has been, and will be, considerably different. The Blazers held their third predraft workout Friday morning at the practice facility in Tualatin, and have just five more scheduled before the NBA draft takes place June 25.

The franchise is refusing to release the names of workout participants more than a day ahead of time because they are simultaneously trying to persuade agents to send them clients while dealing with last-second cancellations. The draft prospect list is in constant flux.

Two issues are deterring agents and their prospects. Most prominently, for the first time in years, the Blazers are not part of the draft lottery. So any prospect projected to be selected anywhere near the the top 14 picks is refusing to work out for the team.

"The agents are saying, 'Where is my guy going to play for you guys? I understand you like him and you may move up (in the draft) to get him, but I don't know if I want him playing for you,'" Buchanan said. "Even though we have a history of being able to move up in the draft to get the (prospect) we like, we're having trouble bringing guys in for workouts.

Wasn't sure if there was a thread about this, so I just thought I'd post it in the workout one. It's interesting teams aren't willing to workout for them b/c of their young roster, which is a surprise considering Portland has been the most active team in recent drafts.

Wasn't sure if there was a thread about this, so I just thought I'd post it in the workout one. It's interesting teams aren't willing to workout for them b/c of their young roster, which is a surprise considering Portland has been the most active team in recent drafts.

We're saturated with young talent, there's very little incentive for a rookie to join a team like that because their prospects of carving out PT between the start of their career and the end of their rookie scale deal are a lot poorer than say if they were to go to an older team like San Antonio or Dallas or some other team with a lot of vets in their late twenties to early thirties. Nobody wants to get drafted and face the real likelihood that they are going to be a practice player or a low minutes backup for the next three years which all but guarantees their next contract is going to be small or not there at all.

This is one of the several negative side-effects of having a roster so overloaded with youngsters and not more of an age spread.

I wouldn't mind drafting Jerebko in the 2nd round and leaving him in Europe for a couple of years.

That should be an interesting workout to hear about tomorrow with Hansborough and Collison.

I know a lot of people hate him, but I love Portland picking up Tyler Hansbrough if we keep our current first round pick. The guy will be a great hustle guy off the bench and I bet will be a decent offensive rebounder. I know he is under sized, but he is decent at everything and great at hustle. With the 24th pick, we can get someone who will work hard to get better.

Psycho T will be long gone before we pick, if we keep our pick. His predraft measurements were a lot better than most expected, making him not so undersized.

He has also been killing people in workouts. Most now are saying he will go late lottery to mid teens.

There is no way Tyler will be available when we pick at 24. If he were to be I would nab him in a hurry.

I don't remember this being posted, and don't think it deserves it's own thread. A workout in New Jersey involving 36 players (no big studs, but some decent info):

http://www.draftexpress.com/blog/Jonathan-Givony/#New-Jersey-Group-Workout-Wrap-Up-3259

Paul Harris may have helped himself the most I thought here. He plays so hard. He got in everyone’s face. No one wanted to go against him. On offense and defense. On top of that, his measurements were ridiculous. He came up a bit shorter than expected—only 6-3 in shoes, but his wingspan is outrageous—6-11 ½. He’s also absolutely jacked at 237 pounds, all 100% muscle. On top of that, he measured a no step vertical of 36 inches, which is off the charts. He’s like Ron Artest.

I'd definitely consider him in the 2nd round.

Also kinda funny and still Harris related....

Chase Budinger was awful in my opinion. He just doesn’t play. All he wants to do is shoot jumpers. That’s not basketball. He didn’t want to be there. Didn’t want to compete. He couldn’t put it on the floor. You should have seen his face when he was switched onto Paul Harris. He definitely didn’t want anything to do with him.
