Merritt Paulson group the next owner of the Blazers?

Somehow, I've overlooked the local son of the former Secretary of the U.S. Treasury as a possible future Blazers owner. Maybe because he seems so passionate about his Major League Soccer enterprise. Maybe because I'd never viewed him as someone willing to take the leap from soccer and minor league baseball enterprises into the migraine that is a $425-million NBA purchase. The strategists suggested that Paulson, and his father, Henry, have the financial resources, political clout and connections to put together a dynamite ownership group. It would have a local focus. They believe the ownership group would also include a prominent former Trail Blazer. The group, they assured me, would not only be focused on buying the Blazers, but full development of the Rose Quarter as an entertainment district
Paulson has worked for the NBA league office under commissioner David Stern, and he hired smart basketball people such as former Blazers executive Mike Golub as the Timbers chief operating officer. I could imagine Paulson courtside at the Rose Garden, on his feet after a poor call barking at the officials, with the rest of the city on its feet woofing with him. Just ask the Timbers Army. And in that, he's exactly the kind of owner Portland would embrace, but again, the Blazers aren't for sale. Are they?
