Some think unions are the downfall to our community. I thought unions were there to protect workers who could be exploited or taken advantage of.

We were both wrong. How is it that the union people at Tri-met got little to no raises while the non-union management got much bigger raises. I thought a union was to protect against this kind of stuff.

A list of the top 50 non-union pay increases (PDF) obtained by The Oregonian shows that McFarlane started green-lighting raises for managers making $110,700 or more in February 2012, even as he publicly talked about how he had frozen their pay.
