I think being greek is such a waste of time and money...
I think being greek is such a waste of time and money...
Now how in the hell did Nick Lachey get in the Fraternity?
How did he ever get past the hazing, alive?
LOL...a greek geek, have a falalfal gyro....one thing I've never seen a good Greek beer...!
Have you Steve?
Not necessarily Hammer. I've got a life time of stories, friends for life, and a professional contact list that is priceless. Its no different than say joining Elks, becoming a mason, etc. When you're on a traditional campus with fraternity rows, etc. Its an experience. When I was an undergrad at RPI, over 40% of the student body was Greek. And with a male to female ration of 5-6:1, hanging with the house that threw parties that we on the A list for women from nearby colleges, that was important. Plus the IFC sports leagues were very competitive. Besides, its a lot of fun as an alum, whenever I meet a kid wearing the letters in a bar when I out, always buy him a beer and share a story. The other thing about the modern guys on that list, they also graduated from our leadership school.
Never found fault with independents, but then my experience was about equal Greek to GDI, lol! The elitist snob thing does happen, but I chose (and was chosen) because we value the true gentleman. As for cost, my room and board at the house was cheaper than the dorm and the food was much better. As for time, like anything in life, its a matter of choice as to what level you participated. We had a huge emphasis on grades too, that factored into the trophy...grades, community service and sports.
If I have, I wouldn't know if I have...
I did a search and I haven't heard of any of the top 50... http://www.ratebeer.com/country/greece/82/
My campus also had a very high greek population on campus (Rutgers)... but I was threatened by a frat boy when he was being an ass and I hung up on him because my room mate was pledging... I mean, he literally threatened to kill me... all I did was hang up when he started acting like a douche... so I'm a little biased, I admit...
But I had plenty of friends that I met on my own without paying to be part of some clique...
Sounds like your frat was a much higher class organization than the ones at my campus...
Yeah, a good group of guys. Took some summer classes at Rutgers before I started undergrad. I had a year off between HS and college and used the summer to get back in the swing of things. One of my best buddies from HS went to Rutgers. Did the wall Street thing until his whole dept at Bearn Sterns got silver bracelets and the perp walk. Then he and 4 other young bucks got to run their own hedge fund, lol!
Still real close to the guys from my pledge class. Ended up consulting for one guys law firm....what a great gig, being a tech expert for 2 multi billion dollar corporations suing each other.
