One thing stirred a memory was Ms. Carroll talking of how she was laughing. And this could imply consent or even enjoyment.

In college I worked early AM as a phlebotomist at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle and was assigned to locked psychiatric ward. These were involuntary committed patients. Many cycled in and out so we got to know each other, since I worked there several years. One morning, a woman I'd known before had just arrived the previous night. I entered her room, said good morning, need a blood sample, she recognized me, said OK. She was physically healthy and I was a good phlebotomist so did not cause more than minor discomfort, but she suddenly leaped off the bed and tackled me. A nurse told me that uncontrolled laughter is sometimes a response to shock. I had completely forgotten the incident until I heard Ms. Carroll. Mine was a physical and not sexual assault, but when she talked about laughing, this actually made it very credible for me. Because no one would make that up. A person making it up would say she cried, or was shaking, or throwing up, not laughing.
