I agree. So what is the policy regarding those who blatantly troll the forum? Whatever that is, should be implemented.

I don't know if we should make it a punishable offense, but pointing it out to people when they're freaking out over it, might help.

As in, don't take posters X Y Z too seriously...but then that opens the door for people to just say that about someone who they don't agree with, etc. It's a hard line to walk. For example, I can't tell people to ignore Slypokerdog, because he's not an actual dog...

And you can't ignore me since I'm staff.

He knows they're not comparable, he's doing it as a troll, to get a reaction out of people.
Yeah, I know I won't convince him but in case some others were not around back then - advantage of being old, I do remember past events.

Wrong on all accounts. River man freely confessed, I didn’t accuse him of anything.

As for not serving in the military this is the reason I chose not to; the handing over of my personal responsibility to someone else, anyone else, who may be less moral, less compassionate, less decisive, less efficient, less intelligent, less lethal, and just following orders, who might order me to kill someone I don’t know specifically deserves killing. Maybe the guy is just defending his family and farm from invading armies, and nothing more. If he comes to LaPine with evil intent then it’s a different matter.
I would not make a good obedient soldier nor improve the military were I to join. I was not drafted so I escaped making the choice between prison and Canada.
I realize the necessity to have the most effective military in the world and 11 years of my Federal employment was in the US Army Corps of Engineers. I worked in the printing and photography department, had top secret clearance, proof read and printed some eye opening stuff nobody will ever hear about.
Some good, some bad.
You let someone else get dirty hands so you didn't have to.
My father gave me the choice of going to Vietnam or Canada. I chose Vietnam. Why? Not because I believed in that war although I agreed we had to stop those fuckers I just thought we were going about it all wrong. So, I told my father "if I don't go then someone else has to go". So, I went and that's why I'm disabled today with my tiny 5' 1'', 120 lb. wife pushing me in a wheelchair everywhere I go. See, you saved yourself a life long possible miserable existence in a wheelchair and left that to someone else.

The rationale behind arranging peace talks aimed at ending America’s longest war should be obvious to any American.
Yeah, but I can't imagine the Taliban agreeing to the kind of terms that I think they should agree to in order to have peace talks. I've even heard they aren't to be trusted.

You'd think they'd be meeting with president Ashraf Ghani in Afghanistan before Camp David eh? It's as if General Lee and General Grant meeting for peace talks in Europe to stop the American Civil War....whoops!

I had heard there were meetings by immesaries at the Taliban embassy in Qatar initially.
This where my son is off to in 2 weeks for a year.

I hope he's safe...thank him for his service. I think this is Afghanistan's sovereign issue in the long run and don't see bringing tribal leaders to the US solving much.

Wow, your son works in the Taliban embassy? What's his job title, Deputy Assistant Terrorist?

I didn't even know the Taliban had an embassy.

I had heard on MSNBC the Taliban had an embassy? Well, its an office according to other sites that they established to begin negotiations to end the war.
Im nervous as I think The Qatari's are not true friends but have opened up the door and rolled out the red carpet for American Gi"s. They are also a haven for other radical Muslim bad guys.

I like the way he thinks I confessed to military censorship and propaganda.

Not at all what I thought you were confessing to.

You said "we dropped a lot of bombs on Cambodia that never made the news."

Typo? Or confession of a heinous crime against humanity?

Don't jump all over me for taking your posts literally.

Have you noticed that some of the most "patriotic" and gung ho for war people, are those who never actually fought in any war or served?

People who go to war are pro-war.
People who finance war are pro-war.

I am antiwar, always have been, as is POTUS Trump.

I could hear those bombs from my barracks in Saigon. They were huge.

Did you burn your draft card? Your post has no clue

I registered for the draft as required by the law at the time, was classified 1A, fully expected to have my life destroyed by a prison sentence, but quite fortunately I was not selected in the draft.

Basically, from the age of ten until I was 20 I faced a future offering only 3 choices:

Be a willing accomplice in what I considered indiscriminate mass-murder, desert my country and never be allowed to return, or go to prison and be branded as a felon and a coward for life. Conscientious objection was not allowed as a defense by atheists, and college deferrals were the very epitome of cowardice.

In my view, the only cowards are those who don't follow their conscience.

I have some very brave friends who enlisted because they believed the Viet Nam war was necessary for America's safety and survival.

I also have some friends who enlisted only out of fear they would be infantrymen if they waited to be drafted, and some who were drafted and went out of fear of prison and public condemnation.

And what year was your draft class? (year you were born).

I was firmly against registering for the draft so on my 18th birthday I went to 3 different post offices and registered under the draft using three variations of my name.

Sly Poker Dog
Sly P. Dog
S. Poker Dog

I knew it wouldn't get me out of the draft but I thought it would either confuse some paperwork pusher or I would be drafted 3 times.

This is America, I have no control over the decisions of others to get bloody hands or to not, but certainly nobody "had to" participate.

You made a choice to kill people because you thought they needed killing, I made a choice to refuse to kill people because I knew of no reason they needed killing. Don't blame me for the consequences of your decision. We both did what we thought was right based on the information we had at the time. That's what Real Americans do, what they think is right.

Doing something one thinks is wrong, in order to avoid dire personal consequences, is a more European concept.

In the end America embarrassingly lost the war, the "threat to America" seems to have evaporated on it's own, but the MIC sure got rich.
