Hey mags, long time no see. Rumors had it you participated in this forum but disappeared before OLive was shut down and many transcended to here. Just warning ya though, I hate trump with a passion, lol.
I was around until @Denny Crane chased me out a few years ago.

It’s okay to hate Trump. I don’t think he’s for everyone. I don’t get my panties in a wad against those that disagree with me politically, except if your name is @barfo

Welcome back, Mags!

I don't care what your politics are, you are a good man.
I feel the same about Wookee. He can say whatever he wants and it won't ruffle my feathers.
I guess I'd feel more hurt than anything else if either of you got angry with me.
I've met Mags, I've met his mother, I've met his wife and we enjoyed their company a lot. What a family.
I always get inspiration and some guidance from meeting great people and their great families.

Hydroxychloroquine /azithromycin for COVID-19: New Clinical Trial Results

This forwarded to me from a Doctor:

From a French study (of course small and early, but encouraging results) regarding the use of hydroxychlorowquine, hydroxychloroquine with azithromycin, and a control group. For those who don't like it, yell at the French doctors instead of me. All heck, yell at me if that's what it takes to make you feel better.

In the last few days, the journal that published that study has said that it didn't meet their standards. Not that that necessarily means that the drug doesn't work, but this study isn't of much use in proving that it does. [/quiet, soft voice]

I would be more concerned on why so many are against a drug that has been vetted since the 50s, that’s cheap, and only requires a 5 day therapeutic treatment of 400-600mg per day.

I have to say that you definitely do not know that last part, about the necessary treatment regimen. No one knows that. No one knows whether it is even useful for this at any dosage. It is a fact that it is cheap and has been around awhile. It's also a fact that it can cause heart problems.

My theory is 2 parts. 1.) TDS is real, 2.) Big Pharma would lose trillions if this treatment is successful.

On the first part, my own objection is that the president is way out over his skis on this - he doesn't have any data to show it works, or the ability to interpret that data even if it was available. I don't have anything against the drug itself - maybe clinical trials will prove it useful against covid, maybe not. There's no benefit at all to Trump making an executive decision that it's the right drug, he's not qualified, it's not his job, and he very well might be wrong.

On the 2nd part, your theory has one small problem - the pharma industry generally is prepared to forego profits on any therapeutic that proves useful against covid.

Those doses are based on the clinical trials listed on the FDA website. When I get home, I’ll share the actual clinical trial.

as for my theory... It’s just what I think maybe the reason. Definitely will concede that it’s just a guess.

Pretty much agree with all of the above. Trump should have simply said that scientists are looking at a number of existing drugs to see if they are useful against covid-19 and can provide us some breathing room until a vaccine can be developed. But then, Trump has never been able to apply an inner filter to control what comes out of his mouth.

yep

I don't remember the source, but a few days ago I read that right now there are at least 70 clinical trials of different drugs for treating covid being conducted, but all we hear about in the one trump's been pushing

maybe it will end up being the best treatment; maybe other drugs will be better

I think we should all hope that there will be a few treatment alterbatives soon because it's looking like any widely available vaccine is still many months away

Unless you live in Great Britain:

Because there is no solid evidence it works and because of serious side effects.

All the current research around the globe is pointing towards at least eighteen months before a vaccine will be safe and available for everyone in need. Those who believe that malaria pills are the ticket are welcome to be the human lab rats...I wish them luck! It's not that they don't work for hepatitis C or malaria but those aren't the covid19 virus...if they work, great...I'll be curious to see the trial and error results of what some think is wild guess work masked as medical knowledge.

reading that article it's pretty vague what she means by "ready". Maybe a vaccine will be approved by Britain's government by September. Maybe that will be when the final phase of clinical trials can begin. Even then, there's going to be a gap between approval and when the vaccine can be widely available.

I mean, think maybe 5 billion doses of the vaccine having to be widely produced, then distributed, then administered. That's not going to happen quickly.

as for hydroxycloroquine, I saw a report on tv tonight: it's interesting that the first study, the French study, has been withdrawn by the entity that first reported the results. That the opposite of an endorsement, and in fact looks like they question the results. And the other study in Brazil had a total of 81 patients, and 10 of the 81 died from heart failure...a noted side effect of the drug

thanks for the link. That appears to be US trials of treatments that have been sanctioned by the CDC. Several European nations are also conducting trials and I have to assume there are also trials in Asia

I sure hope at least a couple are successful. It would be comforting to know there are effective treatment options if a vaccine is a year away, or more

Yes, and you can check the other treatments as well. Seems there are a lot of options down the pipeline.

I read another article on it that said that they were trying to get funding to go into production even before the final test results were completed. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
