I expect this will be a short thread.

But you know what they say about a broken clock.

When you break a clock twice every day, eventually you'll break a clock that deserves to be broken.
Or something like that.

For now, I've heard Trump propose just three things that I think would be a good idea:

1). End the carried interest loophole (this enriches hedge fund managers at the expense of the rest of us). I won't get too excited here since he also proposed this in term 1 and never did it.

2). Reinstate SALT deduction. His tax cut plan in term 1 was what killed it, so again, not too likely to actually happen.

3). Stop making pennies.

I liked "his" deal with Mexico in his first term. But now he's not even going to honor that...

He wants to raise debt ceiling to pass trillion dollar tax cut for the rich that will explode the debt without having to negotiate any debt deal.

1. Closing the border
2. Deporting the illegals.
3. Finding and reducing/eliminate the wasteful spending in the government.
4. getting rid of pennies.

Not necessarily a Trump move but since his election 25 GOP senators have been lobbying for Taiwan to become a member of the UN and have an embassy...say the old one China policy is outdated and no longer relevant....I agree with this and will cheer for it if it passes. In the past it was Pelosi who lobbied for Taiwan but Pompeo brought it up under Trump's last term. Free Taiwan!

Yes, agreed. But the debt ceiling is an artificial thing which just creates an additional crisis point. If congress has agreed to spend the money (or to not receive the money, in this case) then potentially defaulting on the debt because congress has changed it's mind is just a dumb way to govern.

Permanently eliminating the debt ceiling would end the default crises, and it would do nothing to increase or decrease spending or revenues.

No tax on tips
No tax on ss

I don't mind tax on SS if the phase-in is set high enough that people who depend on SS don't have to pay it.

If tips are not taxed, then everyone in the B2C world is going to end up working for tips. Do you really want to be expected to tip at 7/11, the gas station, the dentist, home depot, etc etc?

agree about ss.
Tips are discretionary to me. Even if the food is shitty but the service excellent, I will tip And if the food is great and service sucks no tip.

Sure, but the point is, the guy at home depot who tells you where to find that bracket you are looking for will now be expecting a tip, because that's how he'll be making his living. Do you want to have to make the decision about a tip every time you interact with anyone as a consumer?

Maybe you do, I can imagine that some personality types would really enjoy that, but I'd really hate it.

There are times I throw a buck or two into the plastic cup tab the coffee shack where there a several young girls working the butts off to keep up and provide a nice cup of Joe. That is for a team work effort.
At a diner, I will tip when a check is brought and it was a good experience.
I never feel like I have to tip a hd employee or gas station attendant.
Some things are just customary and ok, and it should be ok to use discretion too.
I would never tip a pirate because they always take/steal and never give, no strings attached....thats why they are pirates....

I feel like you are missing the point. If taxes on tips go away, there will be a great pressure to move more wage earners to tip-based income, because, well, because it's a way to avoid taxation.

No one tips at Home Depot now. But if you change the tax scheme to favor tip income over wage income, you may very well be expected to in the future.

That's correct. We don't take tips, and we don't give them. Nor do we pay taxes. It's really the perfect job.

Yeah the one on the north is an interstate border not international border. Canada is the 51st state, didn't you hear?

They couldn't wait to give up their universal health care and fantastic employee protections to join us!

No tax on OT would be nice. I work a lot of overtime and while it better than not working it at all, I sure get screwed in taxes.

So a lot goes into my 401k

Getting taxed more for having to work more is BS

But I know it will never happen and he’s full of shit so…

“Border”….just 1?
I would settle for just 1. Start with the southern border and once that is better then the northern border could be next.
It is going to take awhile since Biden spent the last 4 years royally screwing up the borders by making them non existent.

How did Biden do that? What bill or policy was it?

Must have erased the border on the map at the Whitehouse. Maybe he was trying to make Mexico the 51st state.

Stopping making pennies is going to make us spend more not less. We will have to make more nickels to make up for no pennies. Nickels cost over 4 times what it costs to make a penny. We will be spending millions more not saving millions.

Not if he renames nickels to Trumpels. Then we all win!

That would be brilliant. The southern border wall would be a lot shorter and maybe he could actually, as a state, make Mexico pay for it.

They want to get rid of cash entirely, if you have forgotten the republican push for this in 2020/21. That way they can track all purchases or transfers of money via donation or gifting. Get rid of the penny and then we get rid of nickels next.

How did Biden do that? What bill or policy was it?
Bidens executive order on day one got rid of the stay in mexico policy trump had in place, thus allowing immigrants to stay in US while waiting for next step.

Trump also stopped flying in immigrants from other countries like BIden was doing, even though he originally was saying they wernt doing this until they got caught on video on tarmac is cities letting people off.

Did I leave any "s" off any words this time. I would hate to state there is only 1 border again. pathetic

I like that Trump wants to buy Gaza and move his operations there with Musk and Zuckerberg and Bannon and all his buddies. I would love to see them all residing at his so called, "resort" and think their billions will keep them safe in that neck of the woods. Whack jobs just gonna whack! Iran would love to see the billionaire club within striking distance. You think they kidnapped Israeli's, wait until the MAGA golf crowd shows up! It'll be like shooting fish in a barrel for fundamentalist Jihadists in the region. Now that our intelligence agencies and foreign relations specialists have all been fired would be such a good time to take over a small middle eastern country! Duh! Why hadn't we thought of this stroke of genius before? (disclaimer, sarcasm is implied here for those lacking the humor gene)
