Reagan did this on a promise from Dems that they would overhaul immigration laws to prevent illegal aliens from entering and/or remaining in our country ever again.

The Dems, many of them still actually in office today, fucking lied to America.

So now, (surprised?) their word is worthless as dogshit and the immigration overhaul will take place without their participation.
 
For those of you blathering about "jurisdiction" - if you really mean that, write your congress critter/senator and demand that all first generation citizens be exempt from paying taxes or going to prison for criminal acts. They would all need to be treated like not just foreign citizens, but foreign citizens with diplomatic immunity. All other foreign citizens in the US are indeed subject to US jurisdiction.

Frankly, I don't think some of you understand the definition of "jurisdiction".

We know why...

Because, unlike you, we're not singling out anyone by race or country of origin.

We're opposed to any and all illegal aliens, and any other subversion of immigration laws.

Race is not part of the issue, which is National Security.

To say it's racist to enforce the immigration laws we have, mostly written and passed by Dems still in office today, is a lying leftist talking point with no basis in fact.
 
My daughter was born in China and has US citizenship and a Chinese travel document, so essentially dual citizenship. When she turns 16 China will make her decide on US or Chinese citizenship, as they do not recognize dual citizenship. My son was born in the US and my wife has a green card (and second kid), because of this, China won't recognize him as Chinese at all, he can never claim it. Even if my wife leaves the US and returns to China to live.

It's China, a country where your children would have grown up working in a slave labor camp making Phil Knight, the Walton Family, and Bill Gates rich.

Why would anyone want to claim citizenship there?

The President's bullshit responses to all of these events?

You know and have seen & heard about all these things right?

No, I know these things occur. But I don't participate in them, and as far as I know, they don't happen in my presence, so I can't really comment on why people choose to treat others in disparate manners. I can only comment on what I think, how I behave.
 
I saw this last night and was waiting for a thread. The only way I could think of this working is arguing that the children aren't under our jurisdiction.

That would be quite a stretch but the Supreme Court could rule that way and there's nothing anyone could do about.

I know liberals love judges making laws...this should be fine with them.
That's just your view, that Liberals love making laws. Liberals have a different view and that is that Liberals love following the Constitution as it was intended. Which is right? That is what politics if for.

Not really. I know right and wrong. So I'd vote for changes in some things and have ideas to fix them. As to my lack of empathy here is an example


I read lots of people here saying how much Paul Allen dying affected them.

I couldn't imagine how someone could be so emotional. I was even planning a thread to make fun of them but I realized I'd just look like the asshole that I am.

I think it applies to almost anyone born in the boundaries of the United States. That's the way I see the Constitution and that's the way the Supreme Court and all other courts see the Amendment. Disagreeing with this is akin to saying there's no such thing as Global Warming.

Has the Supreme Court ever actually weighed in on whether being born in the US necessarily makes a person automatically "subject to the jurisdiction thereof"? I couldn't find a case that covered that.

I don't think you could find 5 judges that would say yes to this. 4 would say no on general #nevertrump principle, and the others seem to believe the originalist or strict constructionalist view, which parsing out a couple of motes would be the antithesis of. :dunno:

But I could see (in another dimension where lawmakers make good laws) this being tied in with a comprehensive immigration reform package.

It's a bit ironic, but Harry Reid and then Senator Obama, were against the very same thing. Not my opinion, it's what they said.

Most likely it's never been challenged in the Supreme Court because it would fail. It is extremely unlikely that they would overturn a law that has been implemented over a long period of time.

if the congress did make changes I would prefer that for immigrants that have come here legally and their kids were born here they would receive citizenship, or if an immigrant became a citizen then their kids would also become one.
Either way for me works.

Well, he can sign whatever he wants. It will be blocked by an appeals court in a millisecond, but he can do what he wants. Don't you remember:

Just as one example, Obama enacted 2nd Amendment-challenged actions by Executive Order both in 2013 (right after Sandy Hook) and in 2016. Trump removed one (by pen and phone) last year. His DAPA and DACA orders were hung up at the 5th Court of Appeals. Doesn't mean he didn't sign them...

Another example of politicians overreaching their bounds, taking too much power over our governance, and their fans saying it's cool 'cuz it's their guy. Biden's Supreme Court quotes, leading to Paulsen not getting nominated. Reid's being used by McConnell to get Kavanaugh in without 60 votes. Etc. There's a system of checks and balances for a reason.
 
The first smart thing he has done. Why should the taxpayer support a child that came here to get a free ride. Many couples will come here with pregnant wife to take the US citizenship. I heard from a friend that France scratched out the right in 1976 and the UK in 1981. We are actually the country that allows this action. However, can they join the armed forces without a US birth right?

Not sure the slave labor camp would have been my kids outcome if we stayed in China...although there is/was always a little fear that if there was an international incident with the US that we could be subject to violence. When the US had a spy plane crash in China back in 2001 I was told a US teacher at a school I attended was brought out by a mob of students and beaten.

I was just sharing how China works, not that I want my son to be able to claim Chinese citizenship. We do travel between the US and China and makes for interesting times at the Chinese consulate getting the right visas/travel documents for our family.

And that signature would likely have about as much weight as my signature or yours would be. There are proper channels. Trump fails to understand that. If he wants to keep polarizing the country then go for it donnie as it will eventually catch up to you.
