Agree...we don't want go cut off anyone in legit need. Dont do away with SS & medicare fro those in need.My poor near illiterate Alabama grandparents had nothing but two checks, one from social security and the other a tiny pension for black lung disease from working in a coal mine for decades. They were lucky to have been able to apply for those pensions since their intellect level was exceedingly low. I assure you that there are many Millions of others in that boat, the bulk of them being in the deep South. ABM living in Tennessee ought to know this from first hand experience. Tennessee is situated directly on top of Alabama and just a hop, skip and a jump from where my grandparents lived in Northern Alabama between Decatur and Huntsville.
Eliminating social security will condemn Millions of Americans to severe poverty and starvation.
Need I even go into the monumental disaster that would result from the elimination of federally run Medicare?
This plan of cutting back on social security and medicare is truly designed by the Three Stooges.
Sorry UCD, but it the only comment that fits the thread. All here are sending the same signal. Even though the program can not work for many reason, but it is virtuous to the left.Do you really and truly know what “virtue signaling” is?? Is there really such a thing? Funny that about the only time that term is used by anyone is when that individual (or individuals) don’t have a legitimate response to a question or issue. It’s nothing more than a deflection, used by those who have walked themselves in a corner and have no other way out. Talk about a discussion killer.......
So lets look at this another way. We all know people who have disabilities and our heartstrings tug when something happens. So lets say we start privatizing a 401K or IRA plan when you start working at 18 ( I started at 11) and a Health care savings account and you put 15 % of your paycheck into those. The money does not go to the government so it costs them nothing. Then 5% of your paycheck goes to a disability fund which is controlled by the government that money will go out to people who need it and you will be in control of your own healthcare and retirement with a buffer if you become disabled. Now obviously you could not start this with someone who is 45 but it would be safe to say that someone who is 25 right now would be more then covered. Social Security was not designed to be a retirement fund it was a buffer and for people and those who were born with birth defects and could not work. It is not the governments job to take care of you it is you who need to take care of yourself. The government should only help those who cant help themselves.
I agree. Its about a reasonable balance to me with tools to help one succeed. So lets look at this another way. This is NOT what he said
There is a reason these are called "entitlements".
Shouldn't this be how the government runs it anyway? So lets look at this another way. We all know people who have disabilities and our heartstrings tug when something happens. What happens when that private company gets shut down for fraud or someone embezzles money from it?
I intended to be facetious. Is there a font color for that?Which of the 2 definitions are you referring to?
There are an awful lot of people who can't take care of themselves including people who are going to throw their money down a rat hole thinking they're going to make a killing in some sort of investment. This could be risky stocks or scam schemes or just plain bad luck.So lets look at this another way. We all know people who have disabilities and our heartstrings tug when something happens. I've got two college buddies that went to work for PGE that got royally screwed in that deal. One rose to the level of a high level executive managing Portland's World Trade Center. I lost track of the other who only wanted to work there as an engineer and get out with enough money to start a hardware store. How quickly people forget Enron.
No, we don't need most child labor laws. As you have pointed out before, most products we buy are from China ,where all children are slaves and there are no child labor laws there. Same with safety laws, none in China and your pc works just fine! Nobody you know died making it, so...cool.Do we really need child labor laws either? If the kids want to earn a little money, let them. And workplace safety rules - let's remove them. Our workers are smart enough to look out for themselves. They can get a different job if they think it's unsafe.

I had a newspaper route at 10. Sold papers in and out of restaurants, bars and taverns in Oswego. Started mowing lawns at 11 and picked strawberries at 9, 10, 11 and 12.No, we don't need most child labor laws. I worked in berry and bean fields, mowed lawns, painted houses, every summer from the age of 7.
My sons were irrationally forbidden by law from doing most of that, in order to create a false market of "jobs Americans won't do" to justify allowing a slave market of illegal aliens working under the table.
