If Trump kicks out Twitter, there's always Germany

BERLIN (Reuters) - If U.S. President Donald Trump goes ahead with his threat to close Twitter, the micro-blogging site can always relocate to Germany.

After Trump threatened to shut down Twitter for advising its users to fact-check his tweets, a senior German official suggested in a light-hearted tweet that the California-based company would be better off in Europe.

“This is an invitation to move to Germany!” Thomas Jarzombek, Berlin’s point person for the startup economy, tweeted on Thursday.

“Here you are free to criticize the government as well as to fight fake news. We have a great startup and tech ecosystem, your company would be a perfect fit and I will open any doors for you!”

Trump is expected to order a legal review after objecting to Twitter’s handling of tweets by the president that made unsubstantiated claims about fraud in mail-in voting. In a first, the company issued an advisory on Wednesday to check the facts on Trump’s tweets.

Anyone with international friends should ask them about the perception of the US outside of the US. It is mindblowing. This^^^^, for example. There's this notion that we've cornered the market on freedom of [insert word]. Strangely though, what shines through at the moment, is the freedom to spread misinformation. WTF.

I hate this war on truths. For example, this example: ALL of the numbers say that mail-in ballots are virtually devoid of fraud. The numbers are in fact incredible and should give us a sense of hope and excitement: the more that vote, the more citizens get involved in the system, the more they might FEEL involved in the system and therefore advocate for transparency and change (when needed). And yet the seeds are being planted for protest against the validity of mail-in ballots. How idiotic are we to accept this?

I know it is trite to say, but a country that prides itself on its democratic processes probably shouldn't be trying to hinder them. In other words, why are we still having this conversation?!!?!?!? Remember the chads?!?!? And the allegations of millions of illegal aliens voting?!?!! This should be a priority. EVERYONE should be able to vote the way they want, in the most modern and secure way. If security is a problem, then fix it!!! Figure out a foolproof system. Now.

The irony that Twitter would be welcome in Germany and be "free to criticize the government as well as to fight fake news [a term I now detest]" without threat of censorship by an unhinged wannabe dictator shakes the foundation of the notion of American freedom...

after several years it's clear whenever trump gets involved in something like this, this latest 'feud with twitter' for instance, I think it's because he believes it's better that everybody is yapping about his latest outrage than examining his actual record of corruption, incompetence, and continuous lies. He seems to be a firm believer in the 'latest-shiny-object-distracts-from-truth' strategy

No, he doesn't. It's all utter trolling bullshit designed to get a rise out of people. Nothing more. Don't fall for the bait. Discussing things with @MARIS61 is A. Stupid. Waste. Of. Time.

The ignore list is your friend. Hate to put people on it, but if it is clear that they do not actually care to have meaningful conversation - why bother? They are just wasting your time.

do you actually believe all the insane horseshit you post?

I mean, take that loopy post right there. That 2 million number (IIRC it was 2.2 million), was from the early days of the pandemic and was based upon the simple math of a 1% mortality rate and a 70% level of infection in the US creating herd immunity. Essentially, it was based upon almost no actual Covid data. In other words, it was basically meaningless....just some simple math from a calculator based upon a guess about the mortality rate and based upon no mitigation policies

and just what the fuck has that orange asshole done to impact the mortality rate in a positive fashion? He didn't issue stay-at-home orders, that was the governors. He didn't limit gathering numbers, that was the governors. He didn't close non-essential businesses or campaign for social distancing or encourage the use of masks; again the was the governors

the reasons why the death toll isn't higher are actions by governors and behavior by the people. Those are policies and behavior that trump has been busy trashing for weeks. But 100,000 dead (and the actual number is much higher) is a number that is higher than it should be...and that's on trump

I just read his posts like I'm reading The Onion

Trump can't shut down shit. What's next? Is he going to sign an executive order to make the news outlets be nice to him?

Who wrote that? It wasn't Trump

Wouldn't it have been great if Trump had reacted so quickly when he first got briefings on Corona virus? Or on school shootings? Or securing elections? Or collapsing economy?

Priorities.

Or helping Puerto Rico.

In a pretty consequential three-plus years, we got the President least able to meet the moment.

Trump would have the nat'l guard paint the doorways of liberals with red paint and pay children to taunt them if he could...after he eliminates the free press and limits tv to one govt channel...soldiers in riot gear on the streets yesterday....seen this movie and it sucks

He is a genius when it comes to separating the right from the wrong.

Unfortunately, he always chooses to do the wrong.

I thought the 1st amendment was dealing with government, not a private company that showed that he was spinning misinformation.

I do hope he tweets his order out.

barfo
I'd like to see him double his dose of HydroxyChloroquine. Can I get a second for that?

2 Big Macs, large fry, and a twitter meltdown to go.
Don't forget the insanely large diet coke. It's no wonder he spends half his life in the toilet. You wouldn't think there would be any shit left in him.

Personally, I don't believe he actually ever took it in the first place. I think he was lying to further bolster his claims that it's a great treatment.

That was exactly my take as well.

I think it was all a dog and pony show, or if he was indeed taking that shit he's even more stupid than I thought.

There is 0 doubt that the only reason he claimed he took it is so if he doesn't catch it, he can say it was because of the fact he took it.

I thought about that angle as well, Jules. He may claim that "Hey, I took HCQ and didn't catch covid-19".

To which my response would be, Well yeah, jackass, ...you didn't get AIDS either, but I doubt it had anything to do with taking HCQ.

He "finished" taking it, two days after he "started"

Can you imagine what is going through the head of the lawyer writing the brief. How embarrassing. One of my best friends is a lawyer in Georgetown, I'd love to get his take on this.

Meanwhile Trump retweeted from a New Mexico Republican who said "the only good Democratic is a dead Democrat" and that Virginia governor Northam and Michigan governor Whitmire are traitors who should be hanged or shot. Looking forward to their meeting.
