Turner is not getting traded

I've seen Stotts AND Olshey interviewed in Summer League now, and BOTH of them talked about an expanded role for Evan Turner. So, sorry Turner-haters - he's around for the duration.

Wait. There are people that like Evan Turner?

Now I have heard Olshey say it twice. If he works on his handles a bit and is more of a distributor and opportunistic scorer, I guess it could work. A lot of the new guys are better at shooting off the catch anyway, so maybe? ET is a solid defender, and we can't have too many of those.

Turner better be practicing his 3

I don't believe I said anything about "Building" around ET. I said in order for him to succeed on the court, he needs the right compliment around him. As you were jack hole.
Ok so how do you get the players to compliment him without building around him.
I agree that he can be ok in the right situation and the right system, with the right players around him, but I don’t think he’s good enough to go out and get players just to compliment his skill set.

It does if he improves his FG% and becomes more consistent. If he could get up to 15PPG on 30-32 minutes, I don't see how that wouldn't be a benefit to the team... of course unless he drops his FG%.

And I'm hoping that Nurk gets up to the 16-18 PPG so that would put turner at 4th.

Turner's best role, on offense, is as a facilitator for guys who don't need to improve their FG% and become more consistent. I don't want to see his MPG or FGA go up. I want to see him creating more for others.

He is going to be 30-years old in October. He's never going to be a great shooter, or likely even a moderately below average one. Every shot he takes is a shot he takes away from someone else. He actually set new career highs in both eFG% and TS% last season, but was still way below league average in both. This is the best Evan Turner has ever shot, and it was still pretty bad.

He wouldn't have to drop his FG% to hurt the team. He already does. Hell, he could improve his shooting and STILL hurt the team. He'd just hurt them less. That's how bad of a shooter he is.

They have to say this because there is no one that will take him.
Yeh, that's the ticket. Let's make lemonade out of lemons! (Oops, i see that someone else has already posted something cleverer than me.)

I think (or at least I hope) you are misquoting them. I think they were saying they'd like to give Evan Turner a bigger roll.

You ruined my day!

Yeah well Bnm ruined mine with this.....

Sometimes it pisses me off how right he is all the time.

Maybe they want to expand his role on the off chance he raises his stock? :dunno:

That could be a real possibility. If you park ET on the bench it doesn't look good for anyone. If you experiment by surrounding him with better shooters, it will either work and you keep him or maybe you raise his value enough to get some interest. Worst case is it doesn't work at all and then you are back to where you started.

I could see ET being a good spur. They make average guys look really good. He could be their new Boris Diaw. Pop loves those guys who kind of just do a little of everything. I bet Turner would play much better there. Maybe we can trade him for Matt Bonner.

Ha! Evan Turner does "a little of everything"? 8 pts 3.2 trb 2.2 ast. I think you meant he does very little.

Yes. He is one of those guys who doesn’t do anything great but kind of just does a little bit of everything and is a smart player. Pop likes those dudes.

I used to think this too. I was cautiously optimistic when we signed ET. The ole Swiss Army Knife thing. But his deficiencies, in my opinion, in this system, far outweigh anything positive he offers. He kills my soul without hyperbole, actually kills it.

Don’t get me wrong I cannot stand him and he’s my least favorite Blazers not named Meyers. But the Spurs have a way with average players.
