The race thought occurred to me, but oddly enough I (a white guy) was initially picturing the kids as white, and then thought that I hope the kids are neither black nor mexican so that the race issue would be less likely to be made a major part of the discussion.

I think the first five posts in this thread were where I would hope this discussion would center--how to deal with pre-pubescent violent offenders, as well as what societal factors contribute to such an event.

I just don't want kids shooting each other. Don't really care about their race, nor did it come to my mind.

That's harassment. I would sue the shit out of his parents. Normally I'm not the lawsuit type, but these people need to be punished and if the law won't do it, maybe the civil courts will. Yeah, that's exactly what I envisioned as well.

Mostly because Oregon's population is predominantly white, and the odds were in favor of them being white. But let's not call them thugs without putting "wannabe" (or cowardly) in front of the word "thug".

Once you threaten a girl's life with a loaded and cocked gun, there's nothing wannabe about it. They're thugs.

Clearly, they are not being held responsible, or even discouraged from repeating crimes and threats. Innocent people are going to be hurt or killed while the police profess an inability to deal with the situation. Hopefully, neighbors are smart enough to arm themselves.

I was more making reference to the fact that they need a gun to be tough. People who think guns make them tough/give them power are pussies.

Police spokesman Sgt. Pete Simpson said Joseph Charlton, 34, was arrested in his home at 16111 Southeast Alder Street. He faces a charge of leaving an unsecured firearm for a minor. The charge is a city ordinance that is being used for the first time, Simpson added.
