Two possible Nets/Blazers deals (according to NYDN)

Well in todays' daily News their seems to be another team interested in making a deal for Kerry Kittles. Its the Portland who seems to be interested, they need depth at the guard spot especially since Derek Anderson is so injury prone. And D.Miles isnt a legitimate option at the 2 guard. So their could be two poteinial trades on the table for New Jersey/Portland.

1) Kerry Kittles & Aaron Williams for Shareef Abdur Rahim

2) Kerry Kittles, Lucious Harris, Rodney Rogers, Aaron Williams for Shareef Abdur Rahim & Ruben Patterson


Me personally, I love the 1st trade idea. I know we have to give up our only other legitimate player that can play center(besides JC). But to get a player like SAR, we have to do it. SAR will add more scoring in the paint & more rebounds in the front court, two things the Nets have very little of with their current PF/C. This trade gets from me.

But on the other hand I hate the 2nd trade option, believe me most deals involving Rodney would make me jump out my seat in favor of getting the deal done, but not this one.

1st off, I think the Nets would be giving away way to many key parts for basically 1 player imo. Yes Ruben Patterson is included in the deal, & yes he brings a few nice things to the table as a basketball player. He is athletic & an a solid defensive player but lets not forget he is bringing that to a position that already has RJ, which means that the Nets have plenty of athletism at that position already. This would be a solid deal if Patterson brought something else to the table like a Perimeter shot, but he doesnt. He can be a double digit scorer when given lots of minutes but playing behind RJ,( who expected to take on a leadership role next year offensivelyso he will be probably playing more minutes then he already is) his minutes maybe up & down. Which means even in the 2nd trade Reef is the only real key part we are getting.

2nd, giving up all that perimeter shooting in the 2nd deal makes me kind of scared too. Especially giving up our two shoooting guards in one deal that doesnt give us a shooting guard in return. I guess Patterson can play a little off guard but do we really want him too?

Anyway Iam for the 1st trade & against the 2nd for now.

I really love the trade ideas also. Shareef needs some time to blossom. I means hes legitimate at his position and need time in the game to do his work. Hes not really a bench palyer in my opinion. Finally the nets get some halfcourt scroing. I cant wait to see all the teams next year.

Shareef isnt going to blossom he has been in the leauge for a while,he played for the Vancouver Grizzlies.BUt je still is a quality big man he can get points in the post and is very underated I think he could start at center and Kenyon Martin play pf,or if K-Mart leaves the Reef can play pf and Collins would play center.So the first trade would be really good for the Nets in my opinion.

The second trade,to me is to much and the Blazers would get the better deal,those four Nets players are to many just for Reef and Ruben Patterson.

i like this idea, eventhough atrain would have to go. he is a true professional, is one of my favs and has helped us a lot during our 2 1/2 yr run. kk's time has run out, we all know that and i dont know how many teams would take him with his almost 10mil contract for next yr and a guy who is on the downward spiral b/c of his injuries. from portlands view, i think this works out great. you get a player in kerry who does well in the league and can improve your defense. you get a true professional in atrain who is a big body to help compete in the west and is a good role player. from the nets p.o.v you get rid of kk's salary and you get a nice/solid player who can improve the bench. you can also be able match up better against smaller teams with kmart and sar on the floor at the same time where both are good rebounders and can put the ball in the basket and get some blocks. sar is a young talent who can be here for years to come. he is only out of college 1yr before kmart came out (and yes lets talk about this trade with kmart being here next yr and yrs to come. THINK POSITIVE!

too many guys going to portland in that idea. maybe if they said sar and theo ratlif i would take it,but theo isnt involved. like hen said, the biggest thing that sticks out of this trade idea is kk AND lu going to POR. that puts a lot of pressure on rod thorn to get a very qualified starting sg through FA or via another trade. maybe if we get a sg first, then i migh...might feel better about this trade b/c i would know who would take over the starting spot. i want to like this trade b/c it gets rid of debo and kk's contract and means we are trying to improve our team, but this is a little toooo much. we are send 4 championship(eastern) players who have played and proven themselves on the big stage for two players who havent really proved themselves. i like sar and ruben, but they havent had that shot so i wont hold that against them. but it seems like por is ripping us off. lu and kerry i think is too much. i wouldnt mind kk/debo/train for ruben/sar, but not kk and lu. i like ruben, he played good against us this yr and him and kmart both went to cincy so there is that connection there.

Wow. I love the first trade idea. But I'd hate it to see Train go. He's one of our most solid guys off the bench. But still, you can't really pass up the opportunity of getting SAR. He's still a legitimate double double threat.

We'll be getting Nenad soon. So I guess we can give up Train. But it still doesn't solve our problems of a perimeter player if we give up one of our few players who can shoot the J. But still, SAR will give us another option on the half court set. Besides, RJ is blossoming into a legitimate half court type of player. Also, we can start both KMart and SAR at both forward spots and RJ could start at the 2 spot. Talk about an athletic first 4.

The 2nd idea could've been good if they don't include Lu in it.

We would still have to add another big body at the center spot because Nenad isnt a sure thing. You cant go into a season with Jason Collins & an unsure never beeen NBA tested Center as your bigman rotation. We would probably sign or trade for a solid Center, nothing spectacular,just someone who is already proven on the NBA level.

And RJ's jumpshot is going to have to improve alot more over the summer for him to move to the 2 guard. You have to have a legit guy who can stretch the defense past the 3pt line at the 2-guard(especially if you dont want teams to over focus on stopping K-Mart &SAR down low, you want to put someone at the 2, that teams have no choice but to respect their perimeter shot, giving room for those two to work down low).

As for starting both SAR & K-Mart, I dont want K-mart running around the perimeter chasing SF. He can do it, but it will put him in position to get in alot of early foul trouble like in his rookie year, when he guard alot more on the perimeter. Plus we need K-Mart to stay around the basket on both ends for rebounding, weakside help etc, he is our best player at those things. If he is standing around the perimeter guarding SF, he wont be able to rotate over & do those things for us that make our defense effective. I think you would see a drop in his rebounds & blocks, which would effect our overall team defense.

Plus as far as on the ball defense goes. I always felt Kenyon was a better defender guarding players with their back to the basket in the post area. Then guarding players 20 feet away from the basket as they dribble penetrate. Well most Sf hardly ever go in the post now a days, which means you would be taking away Kenyon best defensive asset if you make guard Small forwards on a regular basis.

If we add SAR, he would probably play a Antawn Jamison,or AL Harrington role, you know someone who comes off the bench but plays minutes like a starter.

SAR would play the SF position. But him off the bench would be a good idea though. We can't pass up on the opportunity of getting a player putting up All Star numbers all throughout his career. But you're right, we'll need to pick up another big guy.

I also read the same bunch of Nets players for Ray Allen. If they can pull this off, wow I can just imagine.

Ofcourse all of you Nets fans love the first trade idea, that's a steal. Shareef is worth more than Williams and Kittles, and I doubt that one will happen straight up. Even the second deal sounds way one-sided, because the Nets are getting rid of a few bad contracts for Shareef and Ruben. Really doubt both of these are even close to happening.

Is Sar on ball D on the perimeter good enuff to play SF in the east? Iam not sure about that

This deal seems like wishful thinking by local reporters more so than a legit trade possibility. Its not that it isn't a reasonable idea so much as the fact that the Blazers could get much more value for Rahim.

A young PF with an expiring contract that will likely average 20 and 10 for the season will grab the blazers more than veteran role players. If the Blazers don't get good, young talent or at least a lottery pick out of Rahim then they have cheated themselves.

Consider 1. How highly valued expiring deals are, 2. How highly valued post up scorers are, 3. how highly valued young talent is. 4. How important rebounding is to winning basketball games.

Rahim fits all 4. Most GM's have realized that he will never be a superstar and isn't capable of being a contending team's best player but young, post-scorers who also rebound, have an expiring deal and all-star talent should command more than a handful of role-players in a trade. I'm not saying it won't happen, but that Portland has shorted themselves if it does.

Besides, the Nets achilles heal right now is their lack of depth...would it really help this team to trade veteran depth who have proven to be successful in the playoffs? Rahim could help the Nets, but I'm not sure this deal would really help either team.

Well that would be a problem considering that we'll lose Kittles who's probably 2nd to Kidd in terms of on the ball D. But we have to find a way to play SAR and KMart together at some point in the game. So might as well do something about it.

Yeah it probably is wishful thinking, every trade idea/rumor this early in the summer is more less wishful thing. But I dont think SAR trade value is all that high to be truthful with you.

Well Reef is the worst type of 20 & 10 guy because it has never impact wins & losses. Granted he put up his best # on the Hawks & Grizz, which never realistically had a chance to make the playoff while he was there. But if he was an impact 20 & 10 type of player, those teams would have at least been competive. If you look at most 20 & 10 players, TD, KG, JO, even Brand are all franchise players that you can build a team around Reef isnt.

So Iam not sure how much Reef's 20 & 10 would have on the open market. Because I think(and I think alot of GM's probably feel the same) that SAR is not a 20 & 10 player on a good, legimate playoff team. He would be more like an add on part maybe a 15 & 7 type player, more less an antawn Jamison on a good team. So teams arent going to give up a lottery pick(which could be a franchise player) to get him

I agree the 2nd deal doesnt benefit the Nets but 1st deal is a steal for the Nets imo.

The league has seen way bigger steals and Thorn has pulled miraculous deals. Get SAR and then we'll think of a way to work around it. That's a problem that I'd love to have.

for those reasons that hen mentioned are why the blazers might trade sar for train/kk. as said, his numbers lead you to believe that he is a franchise player and can be a #1 option but he really isnt. with his contract exp and he is a young talent, you better get something for him b/c you cant take a chance of him leaving. im sure they could get more from other teams, but other teams probably won't wana take him for one year and have him leave their team and they end up losing him and whoever they traded for him. if he comes to the nets, he will be on a winning team and you would think he would stay unless an ego problem came up. kk is entering his last year of his contract and train is a big body who can help them in the west, that portland may think that they both can improve them for next year and make the playoffs, this move couldnt be for a long term unless kk does resign with them.

sar/allen rumors are just that. you cant take anything serious now and cant get your hopes up now. a few weeks from now if these rumors are still around then you can take them more seriously. even if they are around, im sure it will involve another player or a draft pick thrown in. lets wait and see
