I'm such the hydro homie I can tell the difference when Portland is using Bull Run or when they switch the wells in east county. Portland Bull Run water is the best by far.
It is also extremely expensive. Cities have kicked the can down the road for so long that they are starting to freak out at water costs to residents and looking to start their own treatment plants instead of paying bull Run prices. Well water is some of the most price effective in Oregon.

Welcome to Wilsonville. We got tired of getting bent over a post by Portland and turned to the Willamette River, using state of the art treatment (way tastier and purer than Bull Run even). Kicked Portland right in the nuts. Now we’re a water purveyor to surrounding communities and the City of Portland has lost their leverage. Win/ win!

Straight from open reservoirs that birds shit in and transients piss in. Not to mention the dioxins and other pollutants that fall from the sky and into those reservoirs (with no further treatment provided before it spews from your faucet). And the City of Portland wells are toxic soup, pulled from the aquifers along the Columbia River, where all kinds of industries, past and present were located, their toxic byproducts leaching into the soil and then into the aquifer. You're damned right when you say you can tell when you're drinking off the wells......so.......................still wanna argue who has the best H2O???

I don't have problem with diabetes. But that pesky "Covid 19"? Still working on it. It's hard to lose weight at my age, even though I exercise like crazy, walk five miles a day and workout 45 minutes with weights and dial on the scale doesn't move. Breakfast biggest meal, usually legumes and vegetables, then have salads evening. Not really hungry in the evening.

Trying to figure out adjustments. I decided to cut out morning toast and stop garnishing everything with nuts. Just a few nuts but adds up. They don't prescribe weight loss drugs for 15 extra pounds. Sweet tooth a constant. One serving a week and try to stick with pumpkin bread or muffin, not really high calorie dessert. Learned to drink tea unsweetened.

Trying to find something that works aside from living on nothing but lettuce leaves and water.

ALWAYS!

Bull Run is best!

Of course Thanksgiving all bets are off. It's my one big party every year. The trick is getting guests to take all the leftover dessert home.

Oh, and there will be a time where you dont even crave soda!

Hardest to kick was caffeine early in life (early 20s) but I havent had it in almost 20 years and dont crave or miss it.

Soda was easier to kick and literally fhe only 2 things I drink are water and powerade/gatorade zero cal zero sugar. And obviously some ciders and such. But thats my only ,"sugary" drink.

It'll become a time where you question why you ever drank soda. I know i got there.

Youll also be surprised at how much soda is now when you never buy it. $10 for a 12 pack now? What the fuck? Lol.
I already am not craving soda. It’s crazy. Even when I see it, it kinda makes me sick to my stomach. My only thing I drink is a Starbucks Iced Tea.

Glad you are taking control of your health @THE HCP. That's sounds like a lot to deal with. Glad you got to the doctor and sounds like you are making some good choices. I hope your weight continues to stop and you continue to feel better and better.

I have some issues with weight, not that they compare. I gained about 25 pounds during COVID and I'm overweight by about 20. And, I can't seem to lose it. It's all in my damn stomach. My cholesterol is just on the other side of being high. My blood sugar has been fine. I was diagnosed with high blood pressure this past year. I take Lisinopril every day. It helps to manage my blood pressure quite well.

I have tried to change my diet. I eat more vegetables, more proteins. I have worked on moderation. I try not to take too big of portions because I'll eat until I'm a bit over full if I do. The calorie deficits thing is tough though. I also tried to cut down on my three weaknesses, salt, soda, and candy. While I haven't kicked soda and candy yet (I don't eat a whole lot of candy anymore(I treat myself every once in a while...more around the holidays)...soda though I drink a couple a day and need to chill on. I have stopped adding salt to food at home and on my popcorn at the theatre when I see movies and stuff like that. I haven't been eating cookies or other snack stuff. Overall my diet is a lot better than it used to be, but I still have progress to make there.

I eat a lot of salads with romaine, peppers and olive oil and vinegar dressing. I also like pickles which I know probably aren't the best. I eat green beans, peas, other beans corn (not really a vegetable). I even snack on celery. There are still a lot of vegetables that just aren't appetizing to me, but I find my tastes changing as I get older. I have been eating more rice (brown rice is better) and chicken lately. I like to make some eggs for breakfast, but a lot of times I don't even eat breakfast and I know it's not good. A lot of days, I have a cup of coffee, a water, and I go. Then I will have lunch at work, snack when I get home, and then dinner. I have to get better with breakfast. I know it throws off my blood sugar and I often feel my body crashing a bit before lunch.

I also try to eat a lot of fruit. I love Grapes. I eat pears, apples, and even started liking peaches.

I drink V8.

I keep losing 5-7 pounds then gaining it back. My work is good exercise, and I also try to walk, and work out with some weights I have at home. Not gaining anymore weight, just can't get it off. I really have felt my metabolism slowing the last 10 years. I've been trying to get it going again.

I think more and more about by health. My parents only made it to 64/65. That's only 23/24 years from now for me. I know as far as my dad goes, I'm not a smoker like he was so I don't have to worry about my lungs giving out. My mom though, got Leukemia out of nowhere and it took her quick. She was trying to be healthier herself. She was a bit overweight but didn't smoke or drink - she used to drink but had been sober many decades - She was eating better, going for walks, but it still got her.

I only drink occasionally now myself. A couple rum and coke here or there or a couple beers.

But, yeah just trying to make 70 at least...and a good deal longer than that hopefully.
Thanks for sharing FAMS! Sounds like you are trying your ass off. That’s all we can do right? I’m really enjoying the chocolate protein shakes for breakfast. Over ice, don’t mind em at all. 30g protein/1g sugar.

The food here at the arena tonight, was absolute cafeteria crap. Burgers and dogs and Mac n cheese and soda. In the past, I would have dug in. But just looking at it made me nauseous. Haven’t eaten since this morning though when I had that shake and banana. So I have an appetite. Most likely form that big walk I did yesterday. Luckily after the game the team gives us these bento boxes. Chicken and rice or steak and veggies. Will definitely be having some of that back in my hotel room.

For sure bro. I drink those too. It's one of the things I try to have handy in the morning, so I have something for breakfast if I don't have time, which is a lot.

I love me an ice tea

I always thought iced tea was a perversion of tea. Matter of taste, I guess. Funny, all this talk of soda, been so many years I can't remember when I last drank it.

I like a good hot cup of Earl Grey or peppermint tea.

You're in Miami. Take a walk, get some coke. That will take care of your appetite.
