Didn’t help that at our hotel here in Detroit, my wall of my room is right up next to the gym. I could hear/feal free weights being tossed around starting at 6am. I am BEAT right now.
Dang, would be difficult in so many different hotel rooms.

We do bring sound machine when traveling for white noise.

Great example last 7 nights, I was in 3 different time zones. Now home for 60 hours on pacific and then have to leave for central for ONE night, then back home. It’s pretty much impossible to ever get into a groove. I really want to use the SLEEP app on my iPhone and watch, but you just can’t stick to the sleep timers and regular sleep times, so it gives me these horrible sleep scores.

The guy working for me in Memphis last night is going thru what I am. But he’s a year ahead of me. Worked with him twice this year and he’s been a huge inspiration and a fountain of knowledge.
He was at 260 at this point last year when he had said he started feeling some irregular heartbeats and went in. They diagnosed him with Type 2 and he made a huge pivot that day. He is now down to 175 and said he feels better than he has since he was a teen. He is about my age. Great to hear his success story. It can be done FAMS!,

Awesome story. Yes keep it up!

Pretty cool health benefits from using a sauna. Basically all the aerobic benefits of moderate cardio but instead of working hard you just sit there. Actually has probably more benefits since you sweat out tons of toxins.

Would you get the same from soaking in a hot bath?

I have heard the issue is you cant get water to a high enough temperature to be very effective without burning you. That's why the sauna has to be very low humidity. I also heard elsewhere about how cycling a shower between hot and cold could have potentially have some of the benefits. Infrared saunas could have some of the benefits, but some doctors said its much slower so you'd need something like 45 mins in an infrared sauna to be equivalent of 15 min Finnish dry sauna.

So yeah other means of "heat" treatment potentially have benefits but none of them are as effective nor as extensively studied as Finnish dry sauna. For the Finnish dry sauna I have heard there is little evidence of benefits when going above 180F, and that over 200F is actually beginning to start minor damage to the brain. So personally I'd target about 180-185F.

When I am in a room on the road I turn the fan on the AC unit on.
Literally the VERY FIRT THING I do. Cold as I can make it…..but then I call the front desk and ask for a couple extra pillows and an extra blanket. Kinda weird I know.

Not weird at all. I do the exact same thing

Normally fix a salad for lunch. But today I had three guys traipsing about my house installing my new double pane windows. A lot of noise and holes where living room windows normally are. Figured I'd go out to lunch. Good Italian place in North Hayward but didn't want full sit down meal. Several takeout places but wanted to eat away from home in relative peace. Something healthier than pizza. Huge shopping plaza just down the road covers several blocks. My bright idea was to park and look for something suitable. Pho? Nothing I saw where I parked looked inspiring so tried other areas. Still not finding much. Then realized after having been turned around and as I have no sense of direction, not only did I not know where I was, I didn't know where my car was. Or more precisely, how to get to it. Walked to nearest street intersection and realized I had wandered to far side of shopping center. The places by my car were so uninspiring I couldn't remember any names, except Stone Cold Creamery. Put it in Waze. Told it was four minutes away but that is four minutes driving. Naturally while wandering around lost I saw much better places for lunch but was focused on finding my car. By the time I got to Stone Cold Creamery and located my car I just wanted to go home. So I did get a lot of exercise and walking on a cold day is warmer than sitting in a cold room. Couldn't really do much in my kitchen so thawed chicken soup in microwave and ate it in the library, which at least all its windows. Almost certainly healthier than what I would have eaten away from home.

Sounds like quite the adventure

Stupid autocorrect put incorrect apostrophe in its. I edited. Pet peeve.

Been really struggling with a minor cold/flu the last few weeks. During the day I'm usually fine but its at night where its totally screwing up my sleep. I'm still in bed 9+ hours a night but with my fitbit had days with only 6-7hrs sleep. Have mostly had to breath through my mouth as the nose is plugged up so that makes sleep more difficult. Really frustrating that its going on for so long. Hearth rate and HRV have been below average the whole time. Then one night I'm finally sleeping well the 3 year old wakes me up twice.

Finally started taking some OTC medicine which has helped a bit the last two nights. I've gone back to being more strict with very tiny early dinner and that is helping too. Eating huge breakfast and lunch but eating all clean single ingredient non processed foods, have been doing that for 2 months. Think I'll hit the weights hard today as I haven't done any weights since Tuesday.

Kind of frustrating to have done so many diligent lifestyle changes the last few months yet currently not be performing even as well as when I was drinking with fast food. Logically I know I'll bounce back way better in the long run - just getting impatient.

Been tracking my sleep now for the past 4 nights. Looks like I average just above 5 hours a night. The travels and time changes…..It’s just never going to change until I retire. Been doing this for 25 years now. If I get 6 hours of sleep, I wake up feeling great.

As of 8:00am this morning I am in my 260s for the first time since easily the mid 1990s.

Swore I wasn’t going to check my weight but my daughter who hadn’t seen me since early October said how good I was looking and needed to check. 269.7! #BAM

GOT TO MAKE THIS A PERMANENT THING!!!! Created this thread to be held accountable! Not anybody’s job to babysit me, but feel like if I’m sharing my journey, I gotta keep it rolling!

Great job! I used to be 250 and am now under 210.

Great job! You can do it.

Are you feeling better as well?

For me one of the things is I feel so much better the last few months with better sleeping/eating/exercise. Better mental clarity, focus, energy. Now I just keep telling myself that I want to make whatever choices today that make me feel better tomorrow.

All about finding whatever little justifications, motivations, and structure which works best for yourself.

Been reading Outlive by Dr Peter Attia. Super interesting comprehensive look at improving healthy years, lot of good practices for any age. I read it at night from about 7:30-8:30 then off to bed. Its helped a lot not looking at screens at night.

Finally got over being sick right after my Friday post complaining about it. Avoiding being sick, injured, or other setbacks is huge. Drinking used to create a "setbacks" once a week but now I don't have to work around those. Going to be interesting with Friends/Family as I'm sure I'll get flack for not drinking.

Awesome. Still haven't lost or gained any weight myself.
