U.S. Fines Hyundai, Kia for Fuel Claims

Korean auto makers Hyundai Motor Co. and Kia Motors Corp. agreed to pay a combined penalty of $300 million for overstating fuel-economy claims, the largest such punishment ever, in a settlement that could create a pricey precedent for other car companies.

Hyundai and Kia, affiliates of Hyundai Motor Group, will pay a combined $100 million in civil fines and forfeit regulatory credits valued at $200 million to settle a two-year long probe by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Justice Department, the agencies said.

Ford Motor Co. is among other auto makers facing potential fines for similar practices.

I always got a kick out of how these companies never admit to any wrong doing when found guilty and fined.
I own a 2013 chevy cruise that I bought new last years. The estimated MPG is 26 city 38 highway with the 1.4L turbo engine.
I have 8,000ish miles on it now and the average MPG is 36.9MPG so far. Yes most of the miles are highway but the biggest factor is not having a lead foot. I'm loving it with the price of gas these days.

I drove to Fort Benning Georgia twice this summer 860 miles one way to visit my son in boot camp. I averaged 41-42MPG there/back and 38/39 MPG on thte other trip there. So I'm a bit above the manufactures MPG estimate. Before you say this was 100% highway it was not. I was stuck in traffic 4Xs. Once in Indianapolis due to an accident at 4AM(that sucked)and in Memphis twice at 8ish AM due to rush hour then in Atlanta due to a stalled semi where 3 highways merge(yes that sucked too)
