Shero is a good GM. Will take 2 years, but he'll get the Devs righted.
 
If you keep drafting in the top 3 every year you will right yourself. This is where all sports should have the rule I talked about. If you draft in the first 2 picks, the next year you can't draft higher than 10th. No reason to reward incompetence year after year.

As far as Shero. He sucks until proven otherwise. All I've seen him do is ignore the Devils defense problem in the draft.

Yup, if only AV played him on the 1st PP unit...

I'll make the assumption he will have Shatt on the 1st unit. And overall as a player Shatt is better than Yandle as well.
 
Shatt is best PP d-man we have had since Leetch.

25+ PP points past 5+ years. Yandle didn't do that.
 
what about B. Richards and Dan Boyle. They were also supposed to save the PP. Arniel is still here for some unknown reasons since the head guy loves him.
 
Personally I don't think there is much of a comparison. Shatt scores more goals (Yandle is a passer only really). Shatt is better in his own end. Shatt is a R shot (which is huge for us). I think he is just a better player.

Shatt should get many PP points and score 50 + points overall.
 
He is a better player all around. Lets just see if he can actually improve the PP before we put the guy on a pedestal.
 
Boyle was 38, I really wouldn't talk about him. And yeah coaching has also been an issue on the PP. But it has also been the move in slow motion players who don't pass, or shoot or make decisions quickly at all. Plus we almost never see the one-timer, which is huge on the PP.

With Arniel here still it concerns me, but I do think Shatt will help the PP, which shockingly because of how poorly it ended, finished 10th in the league last season.
 
That report was premature, as they said he didn't yet sign and was considering 3 offers.
 
Hopefully moron AV plays shat on the pp unlike what he did with yandle giving hin 2nd pp time and usually about 20 seconds. Arniel still here is a joke

Arniel sucks ass. Gorton has to find a way to dump Staal. As Chuck knows. I am extremely opposed to giving up picks to dump players. We have two second round picks next year in a great draft. However, I would be willing to include a Nieves and perhaps goalie prospect like Wall to send him to the Canes for couple of picks. Canes are in good shape cap wise. I also don't think they are being smart building their defense. They have no vets whatsoever on their defense. That's not good to go with all kids. Staal could actually help that defense with some leadership.
 
Wonder if Dallas would do Staal for Spezza. You would be taking 1.8 more back on your cap with Spezza but he has 2 years left on his deal. Dallas defensively still is atrocious. Staal would be a decent upgrade for them. While Spezza isn't quick. He's good on draws and can work the PP. I would do it. You could hide Spezza's flaws on this team. Go young on D. Dumping Holden is an absolute must.
 
HOCKEYBUZZ reporting that a French C website has claimed they signed David Desharnais... last time I saw something like that a French C radio station was reporting they signed Sheldon Souray

Not a huge fan of Desharnais.. to small at 5'7. Wouldn't totally write him off on a 1 year contract but they need some size in the bottom 6
 
That seems more like an AHL move to me. Almost like they are hoping Andersson makes the team, then sending him to the minors. Worst case scenario they have to play him.
 
Some blogger from SNY was saying that on Desharnais too. Bit of a meh signing if true but for less than 1m they can mix and match. Need one more forward.
 
If he's in the 4th line C mix, maybe if someone is out for a couple of games he is the 3rd line C, I can live. If he was brought here to be the okay now we are set at forward/C guy, then yeah Gorton has to rethink that plan. I have to think it is the former as we still have cap space left assuming Klein retires (and I hope they flip Holden clearing his 1.65 mill also).

He's also 51% career on face-offs, so he can play that 4th line take some face-offs role for a cheap 1-year deal. No harm, but Gorton needs to add another forward. Sure he knows that.
 
They are signing him here to definitely start the season and play. He's not a bad depth player but they. Wed a 4th line center who can kill Penalties .

With the right players Desharnais can be a 15g 35a guy
 
Hmmm. Not terrible but all depends on how he's used. AV doesn't always use players properly and Thieren did the same w Desharnais
 
Others were high on Grigorenko but to me his FO % was misleading. It was high last year in limited faceoffs. Previous years with twice as many FO's he sucked.

I can live with Desharnais on 4th line he is ok at everything except size. But what are we doing with 1C/2C ???
 
I feel exactly the same way Disturbed. I can certainly live with him as the 4th line C. This cannot stop us from adding at worst a true top 9 C/forward still, a clear need. Sounds like one-year for 1 mill. I am okay IF another move is yet to come. If he puts up 10 goals with 25-30 or so points, that would be nice. A better version of D. Moore.

BTW...sounds like Kovy back to the KHL for one more year. Will be a UFA next July. Makes me happy actually because Shero was not dealing him to us, so now he is not on CBJ.
 
Not sure what Shero is thinking there. If his thinking is why would I deal him for less than fair value to a division rival like CBJ or NYR where he can come back to hurt us this season, to me that is missing the point. The Devs will not be very good this upcoming season anyway, so he isn't going to hurt you this coming season. Get something at least. Now he comes back next season and goes where he wants to go anyway and you get nothing. Only caveat is maybe Kovy just decided he wanted to play in the KHL for one more season and it had nothing to do with Shero's demands. Who knows.

I get that logic about getting something for nothing but noway am I upset at what shero did. I'm not going to just give away a 50-60pt player because I will lose him next year. Devils aren't in a win now but nyr and cbj is. If they don't want to pay the price to get someone that could put them over the top then fine with me. Let him sit out another year get a little older and then you can sign him to a 35+ contract and be stuck with it for three years. Ray played this perfect. He had a time table before kovy was an option and he still has the same time table without anything for him. A couple 2nd and 3rd round picks which would be in the back half of the draft wouldn't make a difference.
 
It sounds like Shero cant do no wrong in your eyes. Anyway, I did not want that russian primadonna. It's good he did not sign here.
