I get that logic about getting something for nothing but noway am I upset at what shero did. I'm not going to just give away a 50-60pt player because I will lose him next year. Devils aren't in a win now but nyr and cbj is. If they don't want to pay the price to get someone that could put them over the top then fine with me. Let him sit out another year get a little older and then you can sign him to a 35+ contract and be stuck with it for three years. Ray played this perfect. He had a time table before kovy was an option and he still has the same time table without anything for him. A couple 2nd and 3rd round picks which would be in the back half of the draft wouldn't make a difference.
You are nuts.
You get something of value for a player you know wouldn't play for you. Now you get shit. Even a late 2nd Round pick has the potential to be something more than what kovy will give
The point is this. The Devils had a time table before kovy even entered the picture. They still have that time table without getting anything for him. Your saying a 3rd round pick is going to change that? It's going to impact the rebuild in any meaningful way? Whoever they draft with that pick has about 5% chance of panning out and that's probably in 4 years time lol. your kidding yourselves if you think differently. There is zero chance if situation was reversed you would deal him to the Devils. For a meh return. I remember in 03 I think the rangers offered leetch to the Devils. The return they wanted was parise. Would you have been ok trading him for a 3rd rounder? You wouldn't.

Also by waiting another year whoever does sign kovy is going to be locked into his contract buyout proof. What if he sucks and you ink him to a 3 year 7 million contract which is close to what he wanted now? Also another year is another year the Devils have to catch up ground in the division while the pens caps rangers get a year older. Injury risks increase salary cap doesn't other players need raises etc.

No way is a third or just "any" return worth compromising your ground. Hey if the rangers want him next year go ahead and take all that risk that's fine by me. Hey maybe he even wins the cup for you I'd be upset but I'd be more pissed if we traded him to help win that cup and only got a 3rd round pick out of it.
Who says teams will line up 3 year deals for him...either way that would happen next year so to get ZERO is a dumb move

Saw something this morning on a possible Bozak for Holden++ type deal being looked at.

Now that I like. I have wanted Bozak here for a while. He's great on faceoffs. Almost 57%. He's a 50 point guy as well. If Gorton can pull that off he deserves a medal. 4 million contract on the last year of his deal. Perfect fit. Now, don't want to see him add a top prospect in that deal for sure.

I am with you Al. I don't care if it's a 2nd round pick or a 7th round pick. A mid-prospect or a low prospect. You get SOMETHING in this situation. Better than getting NOTHING and then saying oh my GM got sh*t and boy did he play that perfectly.

The other thing is he thinks this has something to do with the Rangers, like oh you should be happy then as a Ranger fan. This has NOTHING to do with the Rangers. We are discussing the Devs and his statement that his GM played it perfectly when Kovy will walk for NOTHING. That simply does not make logical sense. Perfectly would have been if he was able to flip him to CBJ for a decent pick and/or prospect. Perfectly isn't getting nothing.

As I wrote, you can say hey I am not pissed at what Shero did. Sure it would have been better to get something, but I trust him and in his opinion the value was not there. So what can you do.

If NJ wrote that I am 100% on board. Not saying anyone should rip Shero apart here, no way. But to say yo my GM got zero and boy did he play that perfectly is comical.

Moving on...yeah if Gorton can swing Bozak for Holden and a mid-pick or mid-prospect that would be awesome. Then we'd be set to go. That's the kind of deal I see happening. We are not done.

Like I said. All Shero has done is prove he's incompetent so far. He keeps drafting centers when the organization weakness in on wing and D. Losing Kovalchuk for nothing was moronic. Anybody who thinks otherwise is a moron. Rangers couldn't have gotten him anyway. The old fart wants a ton of money. He's insane. Probably 1 or 2 teams could have made room for him. Not the Rangers. His Zacha pick was moronic. He had Provorov and Werenski sitting right there. Provorov is tremendous.

Thinking a Bozak deal would be something like Holden+ Tambellini or Kovacs and maybe a 3rd/4th.

Looked at Toronto's cap situation, and that deal really does make perfect sense (unless they want to hold Bozak and see if they can flip him at the trade DL for a better return).

They have no cap space. Still need to resign 1 or 2 guys. Can save 2.6 mill going from Bozak to Holden. They have a handful of UFA's/RFA's next summer, so no shot they resign Bozak. They have plenty of O, and can use a solid # 4/5 dman like Holden (him and Hainsey would be a good duo to replace Hunwick).

If they can get a little kicker of a 3rd or 4th or 5th round pick OR a middle prospect, it would be a very smart deal by the Leafs.

It's tough for most fans to admit your GM is a moron. I told Devils fans for 5 years on ESPN that Lou had turned into a senile imbecile. He had an 8 year stretch where for the most part he was incompetent. His drafts were awful. Shero has yet to prove anything other than having the team suck and get super high picks.

1.85 per is fair. I expected 2 mill for him and 5 mill for Ziban on a longer non-bridge deal. So right in the ballpark. Want to stay at 7 +/- for the two combined.

Love it. Love Fast. Guy should get no grief from morons in our fan base but always does. See the playoffs. Ziba is not getting 5. I would think 3 years, 10.5

I agree. As long as AV leaves him in his role, a 4th line RW, I love Fast also. Get into trouble when AV moves him up to a spot he is not best suited for.

As for Ziban, if it is 3-years I agree with you. I was thinking more like 4 or 5 years. Then the cap hit goes up. If it is only 3 I think 4 +/- is fair.

Fast is a solid player who has a good track record in playoffs so its great to see this deal

Anyone know where we are on exact cap space after Fast signing?

If Klein finally decides to retire we'll have about 9m.

Fast is a good signing. 3 yrs and doesn't break the bank money wise

All is quiet on the trade front but lots of time.

I predict Gorton s going to pull a trade to get a good Center that nobody sees coming....

Read moron Brooks today. He now says AV is putting Miller back at center. That means that Gorton is definitely trading for a center because Brooks is never correct.

I though Miller was a good player maker and made great passes last year. Maybe he will be better at center than wing. With that said idk how he is at draws. I never realized the importance of winning face-offs until I was drunk at a bar in Hawaii watching them lose face off after face-off to the Kings in the Stanley Cup finals .

Staal would never be able to bring back JVR. Rangers don't need to bring back salary. Staal is a salary dump.
