Europe's largest nuclear power plant on fire after Russian attack, says local mayor

BORODYANKA/LVIV, Ukraine, March 4 (Reuters) - The Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant in Ukraine, the largest of its kind in Europe, was on fire early on Friday after an attack by Russian troops, the mayor of the nearby town of Energodar said.

There has been fierce fighting between local forces and Russian troops, Dmytro Orlov said in an online post, adding that there had been casualties without giving details.

Earlier, Ukrainian authorities reported Russian troops were stepping up efforts to seize the plant and had entered the town with tanks.

Fuuuk. Putin would rather wipe Ukraine off the map than lose face?

And if he causes a nuclear disaster it has the added benefit to Putin of worsening the image of nuclear as a replacement for oil and gas...
It's a big complex I think, so hopefully the building that's on fire is a "safe" distance from the reactors.

Wtf man I hate wars

This shit is so fucking unnecessary. Not one single justification for even invading Ukraine, let alone attacking a god damn nuclear power plant.

send the navy seals to kill putin like we did bin laden. Fuck this shit

I'm glad this peacekeeping operation isn't targeting civilians. This is an apartment complex.

If reactor there explodes it will be 10x larger than the explosion at Chernobyl

The world wants war. They are going to make Zelensky a martyr. Right when covid is ending we get this fuckery.

Haven't read this thread and don't follow politics like this as much as I should, so tell me, are there any people who support Russia doing this? Do the Trump Supporters/Pro Guns/Anti-Vax/Anti-Abortion/Pro book burners side with Russia on this........ or is everyone unified in how bad this is?

Honest question to somebody who seems to know what's going on here.....how does this affect/effect me? To somebody like me who isn't very informed, This feels no different than Afghanistan or Iraq or any other war on the other side of the world. This even less so because we aren't involved YET. But honestly how does this impact my daily life?

This is the only place I've read/watched/clicked on anything about this "war".

I honestly don't know enough about what's going on. It's bad, but I'm not sure what the endgame is here.

Yes, they support Putin. Trump was praising him. There are some Republicans are unified with Democrats in that they back Ukraine in this.

The threat is global thermo-nuclear war. Essentially the end of humanity as we know it. I don't think that will happen, but it's certainly a possibility with a wack job like Putin.

Well, this could get nuclear. And it can reshape the world.

This could also affect your daily life through more inflation and higher energy costs.
