This is getting close to a former disagreement between Denny and Riverman... I was there for it then and I'm here for it now.

Never happens. There is no such thing. Stop the invasion and push them back sure. But it's never total and never truly a victory. For many years after this is done there will be bloodshed.
I am worrying lately. I know Ukraine wants to beat them so bad that they won't come back again. And I know Biden and others are worried about this happening and what would be russia's reaction. Besides the nuclear theat, russia can (and already has done) do a lot to destroy the world economy. The sharp drop in commodity prices in the last two weeks (and gold) could portend a worldwide depression.

My problem is more with the loss of life and liberty to the average person in the Ukraine. That alone should make the world respond.

I also fear that the ultra rich will see a way to make more money by allowing the bloodshed to continue and then make even more money building back both countries.

It all just becomes money for the machine and the average people are the ones who are always enslaved.

Russo-Ukrainian War, Day 134: Russians take an operational pause and prepare to attack Sloviansk, a new key battle in the Donbas. Russian authorities restate Putin’s initial objectives for the “special operation” in Ukraine, including regime change and territorial expansion far beyond the Donbas. Russians shell the Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, a rocket hit a university in Kharkiv and two Russian missiles hit agricultural hangars in the Odesa Oblast. Russia stopped the transit of oil from Kazakhstan to Europe.

Massive artillery attack on Donbas: Kramatorsk, Sloviansk, Avdeevka during the officially announced “pause” in the Russian Federation operation. Oil depot on fire in Russian-occupied Donetsk. Russian soldiers shoot civilians in the Luhansk Oblast. More than 200 (since downgraded to "dozens") Russians killed in the Ukrainian artillery strike. Ukraine Army eliminates three ammo depots in Ukraine’s south. Shelling of Kharkiv continues. Ukrainian forces continue to make gradual advances in the Kherson direction. World hunger rising as U.N. agencies warn of “looming catastrophe.” EU bureaucracy blocks 1.5 billion-euro loan to Ukraine. Putin says Russia “hasn’t even started anything yet” in Ukraine. State Duma of the Russian Federation hints to the USA about the return of Alaska.

Lavrov left the g20 meeting Bc the west wants Ukraine to win

Below is some classic Russian logic

West: we are going to do everything to stop the Russian invasion
Russia: you can’t stop us from coming!
West: we are going to do everything to stop the Russian invasion
Russia: fine then I’m leaving!

and

“the sanctions are pointless so they must end now”

"Day 136. Russian forces did not go on “operational pause” in Donbas and continued to launch assaults on settlements along the Kherson-Mykolaiv and Kherson-Dnipropetrovsk Oblast border to regain lost positions. Near Sloviansk, the Ukrainian army destroyed 12 tanks and other military equipment and repelled the Russian offensive. Zelensky visited the Dnipropetrovsk Oblast close to the front line. In the Donetsk Oblast, the Russian ammunition depots are burning. In the Kherson Oblast, the Ukrainian army destroyed ammunition depot, air defense units, and personnel. At the G20 meeting, Anthony Blinken demanded that Russia unblocked the export of Ukrainian grain but overall the diplomats failed to reach a consensus on the war."
(my opinion on Brittany Griner: Putin does not respond to public pressure or humanitarian appeals; they only help him realize he has a high value asset for trade and ups the price it will take to get her out.)

Day 137. Ukraine targets Russia’s ammunition depots, undermining its artillery advantage. Russian army continues operations in Donbas and localized attacks northwest of Kharkiv City. The Russian Federation plans to annex Donbas, the Kharkiv Oblast, and southern Ukraine. Ukrainian troops mine areas on the border with Belarus. Russian fire six missiles at Mykolaiv. The US identified 18 Russian ‘filtration camps’ for Ukrainians. The US to send more HIMARS precision rockets to Ukraine and to provide nearly $368 million in additional humanitarian aid to support people inside Ukraine and refugees forced to flee their country. Russia continues the covert mobilization campaign.

"Day 138. Zelenskyy orders to de-occupy the south of Ukraine. Ukrainian authorities call on the residents to evacuate. In the south, the Ukrainian Armed Forces continue to strike Russian ammunition and equipment warehouses and command posts. In a week, Russians lost more than a dozen ammunition depots. The Ukrainian army destroys the headquarters of the Russian Guard in Kherson. Russians continue shelling Kharkiv and hit Chasovoy Yar, a town in the Donetsk Oblast, killing 24."
The counteroffensive in the south has actually been ongoing for a month; I assume since it has got so close to Kherson, they have decided to announce it. I have probably staed before that I thought Ukraine should have brought all their best tanks down there and tried a panzer style attack that would have kut Kherson off from Crimea. But hopefully this slow advance will work. Ukraine has killed about 700 orcs in the last three days, which is a step up from previous weeks.

Day 139. Ukraine destroyed 14 Russian warehouses and bases in two weeks. Another collaborator blown up in the occupied Kharkiv Oblast. Ukrainian army liberates Ivanivka in the Kherson Oblast. About 80% of civilians already evacuated from the Donetsk region. Over 7,000 Ukrainian soldiers missing. Eight foreign ships enter Ukrainian ports to take out the grain. Lithuania widens curbs on the Kaliningrad trade despite Russian warning.

As U.S. Funnels Money to Ukraine, Independent Media Faces Pressure to Parrot Official Narrative

Here is what I wrote my brother when he suggested Ukraine was losing and they were better to surrender some of their territory:
" russia has been preparing for this war for years, going so far as to blow up ammunition dumps all over eastern europe over the last decade to deprive Ukraine of the 152 mm shells they need for their soviet artillery. Despite not being well prepared, Ukraine was able to withstand the initial assault and then drive russia out of the Kyiv and Chenihiv regions. They have retaken about 1200 towns and small cities once held by russia. russia is so ineffective in the air that they do not dare fly over Ukrainian territory.. Despite concentrating most of their forces in the center, russia has advanced about 45 km in two months, at a great cost in men and materials. Ukraine now has western mobile howitzers and MLRS's that are much more accurate than the russian systems. (who the hell knows what putin spent all his billions of military spending in the last 20 years on?) Ukraine in just the last week is using the MLRS to strike deep into occupied territory and knocking out ammo dumps and command posts every night. If Biden would let them strike into russian territory, the war would not last long.
russia is taking tremendous losses in the war, in just 4 months they have almost as many dead as USA in entire Viet Nam war. The only thing that has prevented Ukraine from already winning the war is cautious military leadership. they outnumber russia in tanks by 50% and by 400% in personnel. Instead of using their resources they have allowed this to be mostly an artillery war. But they are making small gains in three areas that the media doesn't talk about. Partisans are active in all the occupied territories. The body bags are coming back to russia now and mothers are getting restless. There have been about 68 acts of sabotage against military industrial facilities, military bases and recruitment offices in russia itself.
Do you understand that if Ukraine surrenders land that there will just be a temporary ceasefire, then hybrid attacks by russia and once they rebuild their forces, another attack? do you understand what will happen to the people in those occupied areas; in fact what is already happening to people in the areas they occupy? first go through filtration camps, if they think you are a threat, you are executed. tortured and/or imprisoned, others forcibly deported to parts of russia they want o populate. they will live in a totalitarian state where they will no rights. there can be no negotiation until russian army is demolished."
(can you guess who my brother voted for as president?)

"Day 140. 50 UN states condemn Russia’s attempts to justify the war in Ukraine with false narratives. The most devastating Russian attack on Mykolaiv since the beginning of the war. Russians conduct limited and unsuccessful ground attacks in Donbas and Kharkiv and carry out air and artillery strikes in Donbas. Ukrainian forces strike more Russian ammunition depots in the south. Russia buys Iranian drones that could improve Russian aerial reconnaissance. Ukraine has joined the program of cooperation between the armies of NATO countries. Lithuania approved a 10 million euro aid package for Kyiv. The Council of the EU approved the allocation of a new macro-financial loan to Ukraine for 1 billion euros. Ukraine received $1.7 billion in grant aid from the United States. EU countries have frozen Russian assets worth 13.8 billion euros."
Also, a russian attack on an apartment building in the east has resulted in 45 dead civilians.

"Day 141: Breakthrough at Ukrainian grain negotiations in Istanbul. 16 vessels sail to be loaded with Ukrainian grain. A special coordination center for the Ukrainian grain shipment to be set up in Istanbul. Ukrainian strike aviation has already carried out 1,700 group strikes against Russian forces. Russia repeatedly strikes Ukrainian civilians. Anti-Russian sentiment in occupied Ukraine is leading to Russian and pro-Russian officials being targeted. The US calls for an immediate halt to Russian deportations in Ukraine."
I have strong doubts as to whether this grain deal will work, as I assume that one of Putin's plans is to blackmail the world with starvation. I'm also worried that Ukraine has advanced too slowly in the south around Kherson and allowed russia to regroup and reinforce. On a persona note, Facebook has blocked me for 30 days for posting a meme of a naked Putin with a small penis.

Sly probably wouldn't block you if you posted that here, maybe just give it a NSFW spoiler.

Ukraine is getting their ass kicked. Western propaganda has been lying. Why are we pumping billions into corrupt ukraine? They are selling the weapons on the black market.

Day 142. Russia fires 4 Caliber cruise missiles at Vinnytsia from a submarine in the Black Sea. 23 dead, including 3 children, 90 wounded, 39 missing. The attack coincides with the meeting in The Hague seeking a tribunal for Russian war crimes. Russia also launches strikes on Kharkiv City and Mykolaiv. Russians also attack Donetsk (russian-occupied), blaming the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The situation at the front is stable. In the east and south of Ukraine, the Russian military is attempting to push back the Ukrainian troops and hold the occupied lines. Shelling and airstrikes on populated areas and civilian infrastructure continue. Ukraine liberates 44 settlements in the Kherson Oblast.
Personal note: I lived in Vinnitsa for about 16 months; it's in central Ukraine with no military facilities. Have some ex inlaws there that I am fond of, all lucky not to be near where the missiles struck and they have temporarily relocated to a place in a nearby village.

"Russia resumes long-range bombardment of Ukrainian cities. Ukraine strikes significantly reducing Russia’s offensive potential. Missile strike on the Dnipr: Four x-101 missiles destroyed. Russia fired 630 Iskander and Kalibr missiles at Ukraine since the war began. Russian offensive operations remain reduced in scope and scale. Ukrainian defense has been successful in repulsing Russian attacks since Lysychansk was ceded and the Ukrainian defensive line was shortened and straightened. As a Ukraine grain deal emerges, the US aims to ease concerns over Russia sanctions."
