Day 173. Guerillas damaged a bridge near Melitopol. Trains stop moving from Crimea. Ukrainian army hits Wagner HQ in Popasna; smash two Russian ammo depots near Kherson. Ukrainian army targets the Antonivka bridge again, forcing the Russian command to flee. Ukrainian air force units destroy about 15 Russian armored vehicles. Six more ships receive permission to export Ukrainian grain. The EU, 42 countries call on Russia to withdraw its forces from Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plan. New Zealand defense forces to deploy to the UK in further support for Ukraine.

CBS censors its own report on Ukraine weapons corruption

"Pressure from a foreign government affects the stories we see from our media here in America.
Volunteer interviewed for the CBS documentary that falsely claimed military aid went missing before reaching the Ukrainian frontlines explains how his words were taken out of context. Aid was not stolen; rather, distribution issues impeded the logistics chain’s effectiveness, but aid reached the frontlines, albeit later than planned. He describes how the duty for providing this assistance has rested on the shoulders of volunteers due to the Ukrainian government’s inability to create a better system."

You remind me of the unions during WW2, organizing strikes when the country is at war with Imperial Japan and Nazi Germany. The corruption in Ukraine is bad, just as the wages for workers making B-24s could be higher. But there’s a time and place to focus on those things, and trying to root out corruption during a war is not exactly anyones highest priority, nor should it be.

This is like focusing on the fact that Comcast added a surcharge to your bill that month when someone is actively robbing your house with a gun and is holding your wife hostage. Who cares about Comcast in that moment, let’s focus on the robber.
Actually, Ukraine is still trying hard to root out corruption even while fighting a war for survival:
“F*cking pinch me. This day has come.
The council has just appointed Roman Maselko and Mykola Moroz as members of the High Council of Justice!!!
They just took and appointed two independent, spotless candidates who simply came and won the competition, you know? And one of them is a fighter against the judicial mafia who is well-known throughout Ukraine.
In my memory, this is the first time, at least as far as top positions in the judiciary are concerned," wrote key judicial reform advocate Mykhailo Zhernakov

Good for them, I will eat crow, Zelenskyy is a rock star. Even during a war he’s still putting people in place to make the country better.

This does not include overnight reports that Ukraine has struck 3 times into occupied Crimea. Once at an airbase near the capitol of Simferopol and then an ammo dump in the north near the railway that continues into mainland Ukraine. Also seems to be a hit on a railroad transformer. Tass says 10 miles of track disabled. No one is sure if these are missiles or partisans.

Day 174. Russian forces continued conducting limited offensive operations in Donbas. Belarus might be preparing for a massive missile attack on the territory of Ukraine. The Ukrainian army destroyed 3 Russian military warehouses in one day. Ukrainian military forces reportedly destroyed more than a hundred Wagner mercenaries with a strike on Popasna. The surface vessels of Russia’s Black Sea Fleet continue to pursue an extremely defensive posture. Two ships entered Odesa port to load corn and oil. ️The UN is ready to facilitate the trip of IAEA experts to the Zaporizhzhia NPP through Kyiv, if Russia and the Ukrainian authorities agree. Five more foreigners who fought on the side of Ukraine face the death penalty in the Russian proxy state, the so-called DNR (“Donetsk People’s Republic.”) Latvia handed over four helicopters to Ukraine. Zelensky signed a decree on the establishment of an Advisory Council on the de-occupation and reintegration of Crimea and dismissed the heads of SBU departments in Kyiv, Lviv, and Ternopil Oblasts.

For those interested, I watch this channel sometimes. Seems pretty unbiased and I think mostly accurate. The situation in general seems to be worse for Ukraine than this message board seems to think it is.

Russia is a tough foe. But they don't have enough soldiers to conquer and hold a country with as many people as Ukraine.

That is, as long as Ukraine wants to keep fighting.

Day 175. Russia and Ukraine officials say that an ammunition Russian dump exploded in Crimea. Moscow blames saboteurs for explosions in Crimea. In occupied Lysychansk, an explosion kills up to 100 Russian soldiers. About 430 Russian aircraft and 360 helicopters are concentrated around Ukraine. South: Ukrainian aircraft attack Russian stronghold, concentrations of manpower. More than 563,000 tonnes of agricultural products have already been exported from Ukraine through ‘grain corridors.’ Russia targets Energoatom in an extensive cyberattack.

I'll take a look at this later and give a response when I have time. russia has made maybe 45 km advance in the center in three months. Ukraine has made advances in three other areas and has firepower over all supply routes to occupied Kherson. They also seem to be able to strike command posts, ammo dumps and railroads far behind enemy lines. russia is afraid to fly over Ukrainian territory, so I think Ukraine is doing just fine.

Ukraine will never stop fighting.
This is the impression I get. Russia is screwed. They'll have to use nukes, carpet bomb the whole country, or quit.

Any of those options ends in Russia failing and/or dying.

The least painful option for Russia is just quitting.

Actually I see it's a video and for some reason I hate videos and podcasts. I think there is a lot of fighting and dying ahead but still think Ukraine has a military plan (to wear down the enemy and cut his supply lines) while russia seems to have a political plan to install governments and stage referendums (which I don't think will help them) so I'm optimistic. Does this guy say anything specific that leads you to think Ukraine is not doing well?

Is this still a thing? Are we still upset about this?

Sure seems like the news and every sports team out there doesn't agree unfortunately.

Day 176. Russians attacked two dorms of boarding institutions in Kharkiv, at least 18 dead, dozens wounded. Russia falsely claims that recent attacks in Crimea are terrorist attacks to deflect calls to designate Russia as a state sponsor of terrorism. Russian troops continue to intensify their offensive in Donbas and attempted several unsuccessful assaults near the Kharkiv-Donetsk Oblast border. Russian occupation authorities are struggling to increase control measures in occupied territories amidst increased partisan activity. The UN Secretary-General Guterres and Turkish President Erdogan meet Zelenskyy in Lviv. The discussion will include the security of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power station.

I'm not sure exactly what you are saying? It is one of Ukraine's greatest fears, that the world would forget their struggle and go on to other things. Even though russians continue to target civilians with their rockets and bombs. Even though russians continue to kidnap, torture and imprison any who speak out against them. Even though russians continue to execute civilians in the territories they occupy. Even though russians have set up artillery firing positions inside the confines of a nuclear plant. Even though russian TV commentators every day promise that russia will go on to take Poland and the Baltic countries next and promise to use tactical nuclear weapons against any country that opposes them.

Day 177. They forgot a strike on a russian ammo dump just over the border in Belgorod, russia. Not sure if any damage was done with the strike on the airport near Sevastopol, Crimea. no confirmation after almost 24 hours.
Russian invaders plot provocation at Zaporizhzhia NPP for Aug 19. Russia refuses to create a demilitarized zone around Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant. Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant urges the world to prevent a nuclear disaster. Russian strikes on residential areas of Kharkiv killed at least 20 civilians. Ukrainian Air Force carries out 4 attacks on concentrations of the Russian military. Explosions at the military airfield in Sevastopol. EU ambassador, SAPO head discuss the importance of continuing anti-corruption efforts. Slovakia to send weapons to Ukraine despite Russia’s efforts to prevent supplies.

Day 178. Minimal changes in territorial control along the front line. Half of Russia’s Black Sea fleet’s combat jets are out of operation due to the explosions in Crimea. In the Donetsk Oblast, overnight Ukrainian troops carried out HIMARS strikes destroying 1.5 tons of Russian ammunition. Russians destroy two educational institutions, in Kramotorsk and Mykolaiv. Forced mobilization reported in Donbas. Sattelite images from Maxar Technologies show no signs of systematic shelling at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant. Putin reportedly agreed to the deployment of the IAEA mission at the Zaporizhzhia NPP. The US announces a new package of military assistance to Ukraine in the amount of $775 million.

I just read an article citing US intelligence sources that claimed Russia is running low on ammunition. Ukraine Fan, have you heard anything about that?

what do sports teams have to do with this war?
You must not have been watching sports when this broke.......
EVERY SINGLE TEAM IN THE WORLD was having a moment of silence. Arenas, stadiums and bridges changed their lighting to the flag colors. Now.......NOTHING! Am I the only one who noticed this?
