Nuclear war is a different game than conventional troop and vehicle war though. You can have all the nukes but if your troops are starving you’ve lost your ability to make any bets other than “all in”. That’s what I meant by weakness; they have a lot less flexibility.

We can make a single hydrogen bomb that would destroy the whole world. In fact, Edward Teller was in the process of doing just that before it was shut down.

The idea was that if anybody pushed us too far we would always be able to just push the button of the big bomb we have in Nevada (there would be no need for delivery system) and the whole world would go up. We could just take our ball and go home.

There is nothing technically stopping us from doing this. A fusion bomb can be made as big as you want it to be made, as powerful as you want it to be made. We have all we need to do it.

I guess that was the point of my question. Who cares if Russia has more N bombs than we do - there are more than enough on both sides to destroy the world - even without an H bomb.

Yep. The US isn't going to need nukes. The EU is not going to need nukes.

But Russia has enough nukes to fuck everything up. Assuming they actually still work...

Is it too late and too little? Not sure. russia has had time to move a lot of stuff out of range, especially where they station bombers, but Ukraine should still find a lot of targets.
But there are apparently some kind of limits. Hopefully that is just something like: Don't hit the Kremlin. I think that once all the promised military supplies have been delivered, that Ukraine may ignore any limits.
As for the amounts, I'm concerned. russia attacked Ukraine yesterday with over 100 missiles. That's in one day. I suspect that the total amount of ATACMs, Scalps and Storm Shadows in Ukraine's inventory right now may be less than 100. If Trump won't deliver more, that will be a problem as Britain and France have very limited inventories of their missiles.
But there are reports coming from the russian general staff that are pessimistic:

So you're fine with Russia launching missiles at civilian targets but against Ukraine launching missiles at military targets? What about the escalation of Russia bringing in troops from other countries?

Lord help us if Ukraine follows through with using those missiles. Ukraine made their own bed with Russia, let's not make life on earth extinct.

Russia has already said they consider an precision missile into Russia an act of open war and issued a nuclear threat. I thought Biden had come to his senses in September when he pulled back on this, now who knows what they are thinking.

They're gambling everything on the idea that Russia is bluffing. It's total insanity.

They sure did. They've officially crossed the red line the Russians drew. 6 missiles, they were reportedly all intercepted. Now we can only pray that the Russians show restraint. Wait for Trump to take office and end the conflict.

But if they do not issue a significant retaliation, they lose a deterance factor and only embolden NATO, who are clearly hinging their actions on the idea that they are "Calling Putin's bluff".

And the people who are cheering this on obviously feel that they'll be safe from the consequences. You guys are like deer that live in a nature park, you've lost a healthy level of fear of danger. These morons are playing dice with all of our lives.

Russia has made it clear that the action which was just taken, is a declaration of war. So we are now officially at war with a nuclear power.

We used to have drills like fire drills only instead of going outside we would go down to the gym that was a designated bomb shelter. Little did we know that if there was a nuclear attack we would have been toast anyway.

Here is a new video from radio free europe about Bucha and a gentle man who fed his neighbors bread during the occupation. It's horrifying that there are Americans, possibly some on this forum, who continue to deny that russians deliberately murdered hundreds of Ukrainians there. "We were ordered to kill everyone."
