<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (WELCOMEtotheJUNGLE @ Apr 29 2006, 07:14 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>yeah drinking at 18 is cool and all but I visited Montreal a little while back the taxes up there are RIDICULOUS...</div>Its actually 19 in most areas but I think that age is great. Thats the age where someone can make mature and appropriate choices. There has to be a solution people could figure out in terms of drunk driving. Like that you had to hand your keys away if you had more than 2 drinks. That would probably tone down some of these drunk driving incidents.

i now how to get rid of underage drinking.lower the drinking age to zero. the temptation to try it would go way down. thus less addictions will occur.

Are you kidding me? You think having teenagers being able to drink would solve anything??? That would put more idiots in the world and there would be even more drunk driving deaths.

but they would be drinking it supervised. currently the get away from parents to drink alchohol. this way they wouldnt have to nor would they want to go through all that trouble.

Do you honestly think any parent would stand by that?Allowing a kid to go into a liquor store and buy liquor is far from supervised.

liquor would become a regular beverage like soda they would be sold at safeway. liquor store would lose business. meaning close. meaning safer. Parents and people look to punish not change. thats why they wouldnt stand by it unfortunately

Except Liquor causes people to become drunk, then they do stupid things like cause violence, car crashes and other crimes like property damage. It also causes brain damage and if everyone started drinking heavily early on in their lives they would just be a bunch of bozo's once they grew up.

If you give legal liquor to kids, you know they will abbuse it.

if you can jump off a bridge then you willlif there is a knife, you will stab yourselfis that what you are saying?

Drinking is bad for your health. When you are a teenager your body and brain are still developing and if you add alcohol to that your body will go under some extreme changes and possible defects. Your brain will stop maturing too quickly.

That's pretty extreme, only if you're an alcoholic would you notice significant sife affects.

if you inform them and raise them well they'll be able to make the right choice.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>if you inform them and raise them well they'll be able to make the right choice.</div>Haven't we tried that though? Like that stupid DARE program was such a great help. I think your logic is right but can't be enforced because people just don't do it.

It frustrates me when people, namely teenagers, don't believe the negative effects that alcohol has on your body. Having minors drink? I'm sorry, that is the stupidest idea I have ever heard of.
ndividuals under the age of 21 commit 45 percent of rapes, 44 percent of robberies, and 37 percent of other assaults,7 and it is estimated that 50 percent of violent crime is alcohol-related8 (Reducing Underage Drinking, 61).
[M]ore than 70,000 students aged 18-24 are victims of alcohol-related sexual assault or date rape10 (Reducing Underage Drinking, 62).
A college survey conducted by the Boston University School of Public Health showed that among drinkers, those who [were first drunk] before the age of 13 were twice as likely to have unplanned sex and more than twice as likely to have unprotected sex12 (Reducing Underage Drinking, 62).
New research on adolescent brain development suggests that early heavy alcohol use may also have negative effects on the actual physical development of brain structure13 (Reducing Underage Drinking, 64).
Youth with alcohol use disorders also performed worse on memory tests than nondrinkers, further suggesting that the structural difference in hippocampus size was affecting brain functioning14 (Reducing Underage Drinking, 65).
[A]lcohol use during adolescence may have a direct effect on brain functioning: negative effects included decreased ability in planning and executive functioning, memory, spatial operations, and attention15 (Reducing Underage Drinking, 65

You are so ridiculous. That's the "stupidest idea you've ever heard of?" You don't think that's being a tad dramatic?

Well, how can you say that alcohol has no effects on minors? It effects adults poorly, let alone minors. Most people who disagree with the current age limit are minors who want to drink and it just further proves my point that minors can't think rationally.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (JustBlaze @ Apr 29 2006, 11:28 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>It has NO adverse side effects if used responsibly.</div>How many times must I say this? The reason why minors can't drink is because they aren't responsible enough to handle drinking alcohol.

That's not true. If their parents were responsible and taught their children how to appropriately use alcohol, then there would be no problem with minors drinking.

Plus, you can't trust the parents will raise their kids the right way. Why should my life be endangered because some parents didn't raise their kids right?

Minors can easily access alcohol anyway, so your life is in danger regardless of the drinking age.

Because they weren't taught to be responsible about it by their parents, the argument begins and ends there.

Yes you're right, alcohol is the source of all evil in our world.Again, I'm going to stop wasting my time debating with someone as stubborn and ignorant as yourself.
