Unions, America's Backbone

Better how?

Oh, and the Michigan Republicans, whose leader is this guy had such respect for Democracy that they attached some spending to this bill to take advantage of a rule that says that spending bills can't be overturned by referendum. One might almost think that they think the people might not like this.

Because a "lame duck" session is still business as usual, where they had to bend the rules to pass Obamacare.

And the reason they attached spending on it was there was a referendum that was just defeated. Like Denny said, the people just spoke clearly on this issue. The people tried to stop Obamacare (it's never polled above 50%) and the politicians refused to listen.

Pathetic. Really, that's the best you can do? You know how unreliable unemployment statistics are, right? Besides which, you could interpret your statistic to show that people would rather be unemployed in the non RTW states because they have a better safety net.

Let's see some standard of living comparisons and average family income.

WTF? I'm not your reference librarian. I did a simple search to quickly answer your question. If you don't like the answer, do your own research.

Your commitment to democracy didn't last long.

I don't have a commitment to democracy. We have a republic because democracy can mean the will of a tyrannical majority, even if it's a slim majority.

I still say boo hoo. Shoe's on the other foot, so it seems.

If it was good for ObamaCare which the people did not want, it's good for the voters of Michigan who do want right to work laws.

Maxiep, your anti-union crusade is cute :)

I have no problem with private sector unions. If you wish to organize, more power to you. However, you shouldn't have to join a union just to get a job. As for public sector unions, they should be illegal. Even FDR thought so.

And the reason they attached spending on it was there was a referendum that was just defeated.

Bullshit. For one thing, that doesn't even make sense - if the referendum had been defeated why would they worry about another?
For another, the proposal that was voted on was one about (a)amending the constitution, (b) to rule out the possibility of such laws. I don't know if I can explain this in simple enough terms for you, but you can be opposed to amending the constitution to rule out the possibility of something, AND AT THE SAME TIME opposed to the thing itself. Clearly the Republicans believe this is true of Michigan voters.

Fun fact: not one of the big three car companies has come out in favor of right to work legislation. Doesn't that boggle your Koch-addled mind?

Like Denny said, the people just spoke clearly on this issue.

Where was it I read that the mark of a conservative brain is the need to oversimplify every issue?

The people tried to stop Obamacare (it's never polled above 50%) and the politicians refused to listen.

You don't seriously believe this, do you? You do know that since the time of the Clintons, when the policies themselves are explained to people, without saying who's advocating them, the majority are in favor?

And you know what? Mitt Romney made repealing Obamacare a centerpiece of his election. Repeated it again and again. So I guess that's why the people voted him into office.

Foresight.

And the good people of Michigan can elect members who oppose this change and those officials can vote to change it back.

Fun fact: not one of the big three car companies has come out in favor of right to work legislation. Doesn't that boggle your Koch-addled mind?

First, I have a Hayek-addled mind. Koch Industries offered me a job, but I didn't want to live in Wichita. What do you have against Austrian Economics? As for the Big Three, why would they go out of their way to piss off the UAW?

Where was it I read that the mark of a conservative brain is the need to oversimplify every issue?

"Hope and Change!" "The Rich Need to Pay Their Fair Share!" "Healthcare is a Human Right!"

You don't seriously believe this, do you? You do know that since the time of the Clintons, when the policies themselves are explained to people, without saying who's advocating them, the majority are in favor?

I do believe it. The people of Massachusetts elected a Republican specificially to stop it. As for the polling, Obamacare has consistently been negative, even when Democrats have been a massive majority in this country (2008, D+7, 2012, D+6).

And you know what? Mitt Romney made repealing Obamacare a centerpiece of his election. Repeated it again and again. So I guess that's why the people voted him into office.

Then you would think that Obamacare would be supported by a majority of the people. Check the polls. Perhaps there are other reasons people preferred to re-elect President Obama, or are you now contending that Liberals are the simple-minded, single-issue ones? Hmm...

Have fun in jail. :ghoti:

The union guys kept tearing down a tent, and a beam hit a woman on the head and sent her to the hospital. This is what happened when people tried to get the nice white union guys to stop destroying property.

As soon as I saw PapaG's video, with the handsome guy provoking a fight and then winking at the cameraman he brought along, I was reminded of identical incidents manufactured by breitbart.com. So I went there and surprise, PapaG even copied their pretended outrage that someone should go to jail.

Conservatives follow a common master, too dumb to have creative ideas.

The fight is not entirely one of Snyder’s choosing. Across the Rust Belt, unions’ clout has been crumbling — even in Michigan, where a referendum to enshrine collective-bargaining rights in the state’s constitution was soundly defeated in November. Anti-union forces sensed weakness, and the state’s Republican-controlled legislature pushed a package of right-to-work bills. According to one new poll, 51% of Michiganders back installation of a right-to-work law, compared to just 41% who oppose it.

Tell us a little more about how much money you make and what a balla you are. It's really fascinating. $60k, bitches! I drive a Dodge Stratus!

All Stanford got you was $60k and a Dodge Stratus? No wonder your so miserable.

I know a lot of people making less then 50K and paying for part of their health insurance and no pension that hate unions. It's called jealousy.

Bunch of Union white folks tore down this man's business during this melee.
