ShipSeal.png The picture of the interior is excellent. To off load the assets, the ship needs a dock as it could not do this in shallow amphibian operations due to the rudders and turn screws.

I think that's wine.

I'm a space fan. I look at pictures of rockets all day. That sexy shapely bottle would make a pretty bad ass ship. (Shaken, not stirred.)

Bulletin: There will be no public commissioning. Paul Allen bought it.

Are you saying it can, or can't, do this?

See bottom pictures in this article.

jl, I said it needed a dock. Possibly the only items that can be off loaded are amphibious warfare/supply craft; if the Navy required the ramp to be lowered to any angle and locked in that angle. Rough seas are another factor. Tanks, trucks and other land vehicles stay. In contrast, the WW2 landing crafts had front drop down gates.

This is open-source from Portland's sister ship, the Somerset, LPD 25:

Flooding the interior is a bit risky,eh?

Check out the pictures in my links. They look like Brian's picture.

I hope no one construes my space interest as being pro-military...though I've read about military strategy and technology daily since the early 60s...That's a lot of wars...U.S. foreign policy is usually wrong.

Astronaut John Young has died, the only person to have piloted, and been commander of, four different classes of spacecraft: Gemini, the Apollo Command/Service Module, the Apollo Lunar Module, and the Space Shuttle.

Underway Recovery Test (URT) 6 in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of California. NASA and the U.S. Navy will conduct its sixth test Jan. 17-23 for recovery of the agency’s Orion spacecraft from the sea in preparation for its first uncrewed flight on the Space Launch System rocket.

Anyone know which ships and other navy units/NASA units participating in URT 6?

Well, the Portland will be right there, so why not.

What is the capacity of the Illegal Alien Cargo Hold? :dunno:

Will the crew wear pink pussy hats? :dunno:

How far can it sail before it needs to be plugged in again? :dunno:

How big are the marshmallows it shoots? :dunno:

This may be my favorite Maris post ever!

Why don't you ask Captain Unipiper?
