Utah trades Maynor and Harpring to OKC for essentially nothing. Salary dump for Utah, OKC basically buys the services of Manynor in the form of paying for Harpring the rest of the season.

Couldn't be. Never, EVER is talent traded for cash reasons.:tsktsk:

I guess the Livingston experiment did not work for them. Sad to see, for him.

On the other side of the story, what the hell is Utah doing with no backup for Deron? They are one tweaked knee from getting 2 lottery tickets this year. There is maybe another trade brewing, or, I guess the poison offer for Millsap worked...

Wow... Maynor is a pretty nice player, too. And for nothing.. ouch. Just add another nice young piece to OKC's squad.

link? i just checked espn maybe im checking the wrong places

One has to wonder if they aren't completely sold on Westbrook. He's a fantastic athlete, and pretty good defender, but his propensity for turnovers, his janky jumper, and even a fairly poor ability to finish at the rim (only 52% close to the rim and gets blocked about 20% of the time) while not being a true playmaker might have the Thunder rethinking their long term plans with him manning the show.

Then again, Peter Fehse is legit. I think. 2nd-rounder in 2002...SINANOVIC TRADE IS POTENTIALLY IN PLAY! * Get it done, KP!

I like to look to Peter Fehse as a yardstick for how hardcore into the NBA you are. By this, I mean that if you know who Peter Fehse is, you are some kind of seriously hardcore NBA fan. Not even fans of the team that drafted him know who he is, because that team (the Sonics) no longer exists. So, here goes.

Peter Fehse is a ginger German with a jewfro, whom the Sonics drafted with the 49th pick back in the 2002 draft. They did this on the assumption that this 18 year old reasonably mobile 7 footer would pan out, and become a rebounder and shotblocker at the NBA level. But he emphatically hasn't. A combination of a lack of skill and endless injuries has pretty much put his career on hold. Fehse has missed time in every season he's ever played in, with multiple foot and leg surgeries behind him, and his career has never gotten going.

Recently, unsigned since September 2007 due to an achilles tendon injury, Fehse finally signed with Braunschweig in January 2009, the same German team that he has tried to play with for about 5 seasons now. (Them and their second team, at least.) But guess what? He hurt himself again in his second game back, once again the Achilles tendon, and his season is over. His career might be, too. This amusing Google Translate tells the full story, although Peter Fehse himself says it best:

"You can look at only with gallows humor take."

That you can, Peter Fehse. That you can.

* Just kidding...I think that we had to renounce Nedzad's rights for the Cap Space 2009. I think.

I doubt it has much to do with Westbrook. They had a great opportunity to add talent for nothing. Why not? I understand Roy is viewed differently than Westbrook, but after one season with him, we acquired a guy at his position for essentially nothing, in Rudy. It would have been absurd at the time for people to speculate that maybe we weren't sold on Roy. Harpring is out for the season, insurance will pick up 80% of his deal after 41 games. Figure Utah has already paid about 30% of his salary for the year, meaning there is 4,550,000 left. I figure about 2.6 to end up being covered by insurance. So they spent less than 2 million to basically buy a draft pick in the 20s.

Holy balls that's good for OKC. Liking that a lot.

If this is the case, they are getting into Portland territory, how to find minutes for Westbrook, Harden, Maynor and whatever other guards they keep on adding.

I like Maynor as well, but he is not likely to be anything more than a backup PG in the league. I think that they just had an opportunity to upgrade poor Livingston for a song, so they went for it. Nothing much to lose, for them, in this case, since they are not contending this year, and Harping is an expiring.

thunder kept their cap space for a trade like this, i actually thought they would do better than add maynor though

They will have the cap space again at the end of the year. They are not ready to contend this year, and maybe, they can use that cap-space near the draft to get some kind of an interior/post presence.

yeah no doubt, i just thought they would fall into another kurt thomas(whom they traded for another #1) and 2 #1s for a #2.

Outlaw/Blake at least have similar trade value to Harpring.

I'm just waiting for the first jerk-weed to curse KP for not getting this deal done . . . because we're thin at the point guard position. That fuckin' KP can't do shit, I tell ya.

Maynor is going to be a damn good point guard. He has a place as a starter in this league for sure. Not sure what Utah is doing on this one, counting on Ronnie Price as your backup?

I don't think there will be many guys who pipe up to say we need to trade our expiring contracts for a shooting PG.

that said, it shows that there is talent available for cash purposes. Even in intra-division trades.

I'm still kind of hoping a little for a Przy/Rudy for Kevin Love and other stuff deal. Looking at this Murphy rumor, the following works

Rudy/Przy/Outlaw to MIN
Blount/Blake to IND
Murphy/Love/Brewer to POR

Deron can go 48 minutes. Deron is Deron, you know.

harpring had zero value to okc, they merely absorbed him in order to get maynor.

blake/outlaw have a little more id say, because at least blake is going to play a game this year.

So, what are they chances OKC "flips" Harpring's expiring, insurance paid contract (perhaps along with pieces) for a big on another cash strapped team?

Damn, Presti really is impressing me.

I hear Mixum sprinting to this thread in 3....2...1...

lol honestly thats the reason i opened this thread.. I was curious to the pointless exclamation marks that would be in this thread lol

This deal saves Utah about 10M after Harpring's payout for the insurance (includes luxury tax). Utah also gained a huge trade exception, Boozer trade coming soon?

presti is a beast in trades, but his drafting is so/so

evans> harden at the same position

westbrook gets alot of hype but the guy is a turnover machine and shooting under 40%

green is nice enough but noah hawes or thad young would be better.

freaking genius in stockpiling draft picks though, damn, their roster is an upside goldmine.
