Utah To Sign Milsap

Predictable. After the first year it's really a good deal for a player like Millsap.

I would be happy if they would sign him now, rather than Friday. I hate how they wait until the last day.

The question is then do they work out a 3-way trade with us. Also, this is not yet confirmed merely speculation on the part of an SLC reporter.

Why sign him right now? Utah may as well wait the full seven days to keep Portland's cap space tied up on Millsap.

Even if they sign him, this is going to fuck them in the ass so hard it's not even funny. Don't they have to instantly pay the man like $10 million (signing bonus + other incentives)? Not to mention the tax consequences. I'm fine with Utah signing this. It basically backs them into a financial shithole. They'll still try to deal Boozer, but good luck finding a suitor willing to just let you knock off salary.

I hope Pritchard offers as much as we can to Ramon Sessions if the Jazz retain Millsap.

We still win if Utah accepts Millsap's offer.

No we don't Maxie. We certainly don't lose either though.

Either Utah signs Millsap and goes into tax hell...(doesn't affect Portland though) Or they trade Boozer for players...(doesn't affect Portland either)

The only way we "win" is by them not signing him, or agreeing to some S&T with us involved getting a player we want.

Well they will need a trade partner and that leaves OKC and Portland.

I also agree with AmirIcon above that if Millsap is reatined by Utah we throw max dollars at Sessions.

Yes we do. Cap hell means they can't go out and improve themselves unless they give up real value. It means they're less likely to use their exceptions. It means they're financially constrained while we're competing for a championship.

+1, I needs at least a few characters to post this.

How does it mean that?

We aren't going to compete for a championship this year, and next year Boozer, Okur, Harpring and Korver will be gone anyway. That's somewhere around 33 million off their books. It messes them up financially this season.

I think they just extended Okur for $11 million a year.

I gave the numbers earlier. And I know you hate the idea, but our championship window is open.

C'mon Maxie, You know I would love nothing more than Portland winning a title. I just don't see it this year. So far what we have done is get rid of our back up 4 and 1 and replaced them with rookies and a guy who didn't play a lot last year. I think until we get a lot better defensively on the perimeter we aren't really going to contend.

Yep, we disagree.

I think you are right that we most likely will not contend for the ring this season. However, I do think even if the Millsap thing falls through and we stand pat, we will improve purely due to growth from Oden/Rudy/Batum/Bayless. Even an average of 10% growth from those four (some higher some lower) and we have a pretty good team. I still say we need to make a play for Sessions if we don't get anything out of the Millsap attempt such as 3-way trade possibilities. I also think if we get a backup PF or PF/C we need to consider moving Joel for someone like Battier. We'll see things ain't over yet and people need to stop acting like it.

Our sole worrisome thing this offseason is B. Roy and that WILL be resolved (Or I'm going to Vulcan headquarters and it won't be pretty I assure you).
