a gunman killed 21 people today in a virginia tech shooting. he too is now dead and it is being investigated whether or not he killed himself. 21 others were injured in the shooting. sad, terrible day...

Police said they were still investigating the shooting at the dorm when they got word of the gunfire at the classroom building.

Some of the dead were students. One student was killed in the dorm, and the others were killed in the classroom, Virginia Tech Police Chief W.R. Flinchum.</div>

Hope this brings up the issue of gun control, but I really doubt it. More than likely, it'll be pinned on some sort of scapegoat.

As Chutney said, that's one of the more idiotic things an admin could do. The fact that someone was SHOT on campus should be enough of an incentive to close it all off. Instead, all these other students lost thier lives cause the University was too bone-headed to react in what would have been the rational manner.

I cannot understand why gun laws are not more strict. You KNOW there are a bunch of CRAZY people in this world, and yet it is SO EASY for them to get their hands on guns. And all they have to do is go to a crowded area and start shooting.

And the fact that school was not canceled even though 2 people were shot and killed in the dorms is beyond me.

How can you stop someone who is crazy enough to kill a large number of people along with themselves? The only thing that can stop this type of stuff from happening is people doing whats right or whats wrong. You can't distinguish between who is crazy when somebody is buying a gun to shoot up a big amount of people, or if someone is buying a gun for self defense because they live in an area of crime.

Which is why they should outlaw owning a gun all together.

It's sad this had to happen, but I'm not surprised it did, and I'm sure it will happen again, and continue to happen until some proper action is taken to prevent such incidents. Although Bush's answer of fixing the problem will probally be putting a serviceman with an M16 in every class room...

Like other people said, I was also wondering why they wouldn't evacuate if someone was shot and the gunmen fled, especially because they didn't catch him, why the hell would they still keep students in the buildings.
