Remember when the Patriot Act was a big deal? Guess who expanded its power...

Congess, just like before.
President Barack Obama has continued to pursue some of the same anti-terrorism policies as the Bush administration, and, in at least one instance, expanded upon them.
In the clearest example, Obama has authorized more than 300 overseas drone strikes against suspected terrorists as president – that’s compared to an estimate of roughly 50 such strikes under President George W. Bush – even as Obama has proposed new restrictions governing the policy.
And on Wednesday, it was revealed that the Obama administration has requested wholesale collection of data from Verizon related to routine phone calls many Americans make, a continuation of the FISA program passed under the Bush administration.
Scary stuff...
I'm just curious, what is the proposed answer? I think it's a safe assumption Mitt and McCain would have done this just as much.

This is just plain stupid. Instead of addressing the problem, you deflect and say that MAYBE Mitt and McCain would have done the same.

The program started under Clinton. Google for "Clinton" and "Carnivore." (a link: http://www.sfgate.com/opinion/openf...-Clinton-needs-to-act-to-tame-FBI-2712643.php)
One party is clearly more inclined to trust the government to do the right thing.
you're right. I don't have a machine to travel between alternate realities where they were elected to prove my opinion. And that's why I said "I think."
It's still irrelevant. We have a current reality. What Mitt or McCain MIGHT have done is meaningless and just used as a deflection tactic.
as a Senator, McCain has been fully aware of of this for the 7 years it's reportedly been going on. Despite knowing all along, I haven't heard a peep out of him decrying this...

“The Republican and Democrat chairs, and ... members of the Intelligence Committee have been very well briefed on these programs,” McCain said. “We passed the Patriot Act. We passed specific provisions of the act that allowed for this program to take place, to be enacted in operation. Now, if members of Congress did not know what they were voting on, then I think that that's their responsibility a lot more than it is the government's.”
I'm still very much against the Patriot Act.

As is roughly 80% of America. It was "passed" against our wishes, without our consent, without our input, by our political representatives who violated their sworn duty to represent our best interests. Nearly half of the patriot act is still secret, not only unknown to all of us but also unknown to most of congress. They voted it in and later expanded on it without ever being informed exactly what was in it.
It is illegal, unenforceable, and those who would abet in it's use are traitors to our country.
the quote I just relayed from McCain begs to differ

McCain isn't in charge. Seems to be deflecting to not deal with the guys who ARE in charge of doing these things right now.
