Congress makes the laws for our country which largely makes them in charge. The Executive Branch enforces/acts on these laws. As McCain is pointing out, Congress set this specific course with their actions and whats happening shouldn't be catching any Congress member paying attention by surprise... he's calling out your boy Rand for Grandstanding again

Except Obama decides what he wants to enforce and he leaves it up to congress to bring it to the courts. DOMA, for one. He can promulgate parts of the laws he chooses to, as well.

McCain isn't the president. He's not, nor did he appoint those in the NSA and FBI who are executing these plans.

Candidate Obama did run against McCain and said he would review all bits of the laws and not do anything that would encroach on civil liberties.

You can see him say these things on YouTube. The horse's mouth!

Ill add that he could have asked congress to repeal the patriot act or those provisions. He signed a 4 year extension with broader powers currently being abused. In May 2011 by auto pen while he was in France.

so those who make the laws (and then claim those laws are being properly implemented) aren't in charge... got it!

The Legislative branch of our Democracy is by far the most powerful

You are dismissing Obama's role in all of this. D E F L E C T I O N

I have nothing to do with what the guy YOU seem to favor so much is doing to us all. That's a part of the deflection angle. Got it.

Your guy is doing evil. He is in control of the agencies doing bad things. He's out there saying those bad things are OK by him.

So, let's talk about McCain! Or anything or anyone else (including me, it seems).

you've an amazing ability to confuse anything. I thought I was pretty clear that I'm against the Patriot act no matter who is the President with my initial post saying only "I'm still very much against the Patriot Act". Whats been revealed recently is the results of Patriot Act. I place the blame for it becoming the law of the land (which of course the Executive Branch is charged with enforcing) on those who've repeatedly voted for it... the branch of government that makes laws... Congress.

it's laughable that some Congress members are denying that they knew this was what was happening when they were the architects of it

I'm glad we agree about the Patriot Act.

Senator Obama voted for FISA in 2008.

You're right, it's laughable.

http://voices.washingtonpost.com/44/2008/06/obama-supports-fisa-legislatio.html

Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) today announced his support for a sweeping intelligence surveillance law that has been heavily denounced by the liberal activists who have fueled the financial engines of his presidential campaign.

In his most substantive break with the Democratic Party's base since becoming the presumptive nominee, Obama declared he will support the bill when it comes to a Senate vote, likely next week, despite misgivings about legal provisions for telecommunications corporations that cooperated with the Bush administration's warrantless surveillance program of suspected terrorists.

In so doing, Obama sought to walk the fine political line between GOP accusations that he is weak on foreign policy -- Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) called passing the legislation a "vital national security matter" -- and alienating his base.

"Given the legitimate threats we face, providing effective intelligence collection tools with appropriate safeguards is too important to delay. So I support the compromise, but do so with a firm pledge that as president, I will carefully monitor the program," Obama said in a statement hours after the House approved the legislation 293-129.

Look at the shift among Democrats. Republicans less so, as they still favor begin spied upon.

No flippy, no floppy.

Hey I'm against the Patriot Act and always have been but this "Flippy Floppy" seems to have the blessing of the Republican leadership. Shouldn't PapaG be happy that the president is coming around to the correct way of thinking?

The flippy floppy guy really should answer to his constituents. But they think he walks on water, no matter what he does wrong.
