Wow. There is a galactic divide between Clownzano and Quick, IMO. Either way. The interview with him on primetime was great and worth the listen if you haven't read the article.
I agree, imho, Crapzano is in a whole league of his own. I just can't think of any local writer that I would put in the middle of them.

I will take your advice, and give it a listen. He's not getting any of my money though.... Lol

That's why I posted the link lol

Thanks for the link - good to hear he's doing better. I certainly enjoyed his time on the court for the Blazers. I still am unsure of the idea of retiring his jersey number, but damn he was fun to watch.

Some interesting tidbits in this - https://www.nbcsports.com/northwest...ings-we-learned-brandon-roys-latest-interview

Apparently, from Quick's article, we learn Roy rushed back for the playoffs 8 days from surgery because he knew the end was near - just 9 months from signing his massive 5 year extension. It sounds like Roy was going through a daily litany of treatments just to get on the court, which suggests his doctors, Roy, and the Blazers knew he playing toward a fast approaching expiration date. So....why sign him to that massive 5 year extension? If I recall correctly, I think that was one of reasons Allen soured on Pritchard. Everyone knew Roy was on borrowed time and Allen wanted some team protections built into the contract, and Pritchard didn't get it.

Interesting, that Roy and McMillian were sometimes at odds. Would be curious if the issues had to do with ball movement? Probably, just a clash of young kid enthusiasm vs sarge approach to life.

it was very Interesting dealing with Roys massive contract because it wasn’t insured by the league. The insurance company gets to exclude a very small group of players and Roy was one of them. So the team was on the hook in case his knees turned into paper mache.

He is afraid of being forgotten, but he has done nothing to maintain contact with the team or the fans. If he ever showed up for a game, the crowd would blow the roof off the Moda and into the Willamette! Any estrangement between Roy and Portland is his own doing.
Did you read the article?

At night when the bars close down
Brandon walks through a silent town
And loves a team that's not around
He still can hear it say

He hears it say, "Brandon, you're a fine guard" (you're a fine guard)
"What an all-star you would be" (such a fine guard)
"But my life, my lover, my lady is CJ"
It is, yes it is
He said, "Brandon, you're a fine guard" (you're a fine guard)
"What an all-star you would be" (such a fine guard)
"But my life, my lover, my lady is CJ"

barfo
We're not worthy.

Someone needs to walk up to JQ in the RG and call him "Slats."

When he looks confused, say "You know, venetian blinds slats."

Even more. Here get this image out of your head.

Not going to pay to read the article, but I am curious about what’s going on with Roy. Why is he having nightmares? And what is he doing for a job these days? Last I heard he was coaching a high school team.

Here you go @AldoTrapani . This is your "Homer" buddy at work. For anyone that thinks Jason Quack is some major Blazer fan.....

Do you guys remember when Nurk caught the elbow to the mouth? Ya know- he lost his front teeth/implant. This was shitheads tweet after that.

Cruise through the replies to it. Yeah, he pissed some people off, and rightfully so. He's a bitch punk, looking out for himself. Always has been.

All you have to do is look at what he said about CJ.

Yeah, I was originally a fan of Quick's and enjoyed some of his articles, but then a period came along where it appeared on the surface him and Clownzano were feeding off each other and constantly portraying the Blazers in such a negative manor. He would often interject his opinion into an article that really didn't belong. and often sensationalized things for hits.

After CJ he can go visit the Nic Batum problems. Then he can go get Wesley Mathews opinion of him. Then maybe jump on over to Greg Oden. Do we really want to add Sheed? I mean he is pretty much the reason Wallace quit talking to the media in Portland. Damon Stoudamire anyone? Quick took every shot available at the local kid just to get clicks.
All i have done is lost a little more respect for Brandon Roy for giving Quick another avenue to be relevant. Not sure what he was thinking here. There were plenty of other writers willing to write that story.

I didn't realize reporters had to be buddies with players now. Or that they can't offer their opinions on things related to the teams they are entrenched in covering.

The difference is, Quick was a beat reporter, not an opinion writer but often wrote articles that were nothing but opinion pieces. He also often took the most negative approach as if he was uncovering Watergate material.

It's not about being "Buddies". It's not about offering opinions or commentary. They don't even always need to be positive. The one thing they need to have is integrity. Integrity in reporting honestly and keeping certain things off the record that were supposed to be private. You don't run and get angles just to get clicks. You don't dwell on a players problems and drive them further into the abyss so to speak. The minute you are wielding your press pass as power to build or ruin a persons life you are wrong. "Give me what i want or i'll write something you won't like" is what Quick has done over and over again. Go watch the movie "The Natural" and you will get the idea.
Quick is a dog always looking for a bone. At least Canzano tells people he is not news. JC says right out front that his writing is commentary and opinion. Problem there is he thinks "JC" stands for "Jesus Christ".

Was.

Y'all can have your Joe Freeman articles full of regurgitation of the box score with multiple typos. I'll take Quick and his insight every day of the week.

People can dog on Quick all they want, but this and other pieces like it have been VERY good.
It's blind hatred, and unwarranted. Wonder what they would say about some of the reporters in NY if they find Quick to be a pain.

yes, was, but that's how he developed his reputation around here and why so many were turned off. You're certainly entitled to like who you want, just as anyone else is entitled to not like him. Quick also found himself alienated from the team he was covering which isn't a good thing as a beat reporter.

Blind? No it's there for all to see and read.
Hatred? No he is not worth hating. Not many people are.
Unwarranted? Well i guess that is up to interpretation. Pretty much depends on who you ask.

Classic misdirection. So because someone else does something wrong it makes the other excusable?

reporters also need access to the team and when one alienates themself from the team like Quick has done in the past, it becomes much more difficult to ever get any inside info. The players need to trust the reporter and the reporter needs that trust to be a legitimate source.
