Tech Very Interesting! Wan Connection Better with multiple antennas.

One external antenna works better than just the internal antenna. Using both the internal and and external antenna nearly doubles the speed of the connection.

Wow! Using a second external antenna, when your device has two external antenna ports, the speed again. Both download and upload speeds are improved.

I just connected up the second external antenna for a USB wan adapter to connect with Verizon.
Upload speed went from 4.8 mbps to 10.27 mbps.

All this means is, the antennas are rather weak so more is better. One should be able to accomplish the same with a better designed antenna, such as would be the case with a Over the air TV antenna for the UHF bands. But when I tried this, I found in the small print that the Telephone frequencies are specifically blocked. Very effectively, I might add. But no worry, the second antenna is real cheap and it has the right connectors if you buy it specifically for your device.

Since a Yagi antenna will up the range of over the air TV receptions from say 50 miles to over 100 miles, then a pair of them would do the same for the Wan device. Might not be 50 to 100 but more like 20 to 40. The Columbia river next month will be a good test of this reception.

This comment and the Calling all Geeks thread, reminded me of a guy that came aboard MarAzul, in Santa Barbara. He looked about the boat abit making a few comments here and there,
then paused, looking at the FCC license hanging on the bulkhead near the radios.

It makes sense multiple antennas would increase range and connection strength. The military has / had some term for multiple antennas I/O.
