Back in April, Trump signed into law the Veterans Choice legislation. This allows Vets to go to local hospitals or clinics instead of the VA Hospitals when they need what isn't available expediently or is over 40 miles to the VA Hospital.

A wonderful thing. However, there is a snag. The VA is not doing this because the program is on hold. Congress has not funded this program. I myself have been waiting for a few test to be run in Roseburg, 90 miles away. No bitch about that, but the Queue is long and I have no idea when I can go.

So I asked the VA today, how about you send me to a local place. Can't the program is on hold for funding.

I will write, call if I can, my Rep tomorrow. But My rep is not so swift and he's on vacation I think. Anyone have a rep that can get shit done?

When I lost my insurance, I also lost the private doctor in Bandon. He closed up shop and said fuck it! The aren't any doctors that will take on new Medicare Patients.

It took three days to get the fucking phone call telling me to suck it up and wait.

I am trying to get you guys to tell your representatives in Congress, that they need to do there part here. The act became law 4/17/17 and Congress and dropped the ball.
The good news went out, the follow thru fell on it's ass, the Representatives went on vacation. I will do my tomorrow, please do yours too. Even my VA Doctor ask for help with this.

Senate OKs bills to address VA budget crisis, claims backlog

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Senate approved a pair of bills Tuesday taking aim at urgent problems at the Department of Veterans Affairs, clearing a $3.9 billion emergency spending package to fix a looming budget crisis and adopting new measures to pare down a rapidly growing backlog of veterans’ disability claims.


Both bills passed by unanimous vote.


The spending package provides $2.1 billion to continue funding the Veterans Choice Program, which allows veterans to receive private medical care at government expense. VA Secretary David Shulkin had warned that without congressional action the program would run out of money by mid-August, disrupting medical care for thousands of veterans.

Another $1.8 billion would go to core VA health programs, including 28 leases for new VA medical facilities.

The spending package now goes to Trump for his signature.

Sly, I ask the doctor today to order the test at one of the local hospitals. They will not do it because the program has been put on hold. If I had a sack full of 50 dollar gold pieces I couldn't get then to go against the directive. I don't know, I can only speculate that the hospital will send them the bill, they all know the drill. So they make hard rules. I also know that I can walk into an er, tell them the trouble and what I need and get it done, cal it an emergency, and tell them to send the bill to the VA. I can do that one. But damn it, this sort of shit needs to be fixed.

First off, ignore those that have no idea other than some spoon fed rhetoric. After being involved in this disaster, I can commiserate.

As you know the Choice program was intended to open up availability for Vets waiting in the VA system. Problem is that no one wants to accept the amounts that the VA is willing to pay, so in effect, there is no "choice".

The options we have is either drive to the closest VA facility and wait in the ER to get back in the system, or be willing to accept fourth rate services. For me, the only facility willing to accept Choice is the local County Health Clinic, where I get o wait in line with illegals, junkies and wale-fare queens to see non qualified, physicians assistants that question prescriptions established by some of the finest specialists in the nation. Also be aware that any procedure that is not pre arranged with the VA, you will be responsible to pay for.

You are correct, Trump signed an order to help, and as usual our elected GOP representation failed to act.

My advice is to skip all the run around, hell I am still waiting for an appointment requested 10 months ago. Drive to Roseberg and sit your happy ass in the ER and get the tests that you need. You earned this, and if anyone wants to argue that it is not deserved, tell them to put on a uniform before offering an opinion.

Yeah, I had someone tell me that the other day. It is supposed to happen soon, if it has not already opened up. From what I recall, it is somewhat akin to the Salem office. A couple of Docs, and the rest are Physicians Assistants.

Seeing this on the news this evening sort of gave me a chuckle. New data sharing is great for diagnostics, but damn! It would be even better if they could get the tests done on people so there is some fucking data to share!

Spent 3.5 hours there today to get a prescription written So I can get it at a local pharmacy. They will let me pay for that, but no way can I get them to schedule a local lab to runs some test, even if I prepay. Directives you know. Government healthcare! You sure this is what you want?

But Hey! Success, I got the goddamn pills that I tried to get starting a week ago Wednesday.

Got a chuckle too! When I walked in to the Bi-Mart pharmacy, the lady recognized my prescription as the one I have been calling them about for days now. She says, Oh! You must have been over to the VA kicking ass! Ha! but I was ashamed to tell her, no I was just sitting there looking pitiful.
