Video showing Harden's last shot should not have happened

Watching live it felt like Lin held onto the ball for a long time and sure enough, over six seconds.

The issue is it seems the official doesn't start counting 1 until 2 seconds have passed so in his mind (the official's) I think he believes Lin got the ball off just in time (counted to 5 when it was really 6).

Hopefully in the near future, the inbounds play will be timed by a stopwatch. I mean, they added tenths of seconds to the shot clock to improve accuracy, this would only help.

Saw this:
FYI - real time 5 seconds and referee 5 second count are NOT same
on twitter. I get that it's factually true. They count slower. But it shouldn't be the case. "Oh, sure if you time it, they'll show up slower but...." Uhm, that shouldn't be the case. 5 seconds is 5 seconds. Not however long a ref feels like counting it for.

Someone should tweeter that animated gif to Beverly. that fucking drama queen.

I vaguely remember a time long ago when the refs were taught to err on the slow side, because some teams were actually given less than 5 seconds to inbound the ball when the ref rushed the five second count. This was back in the early 90's, as I recall.

However! If last-two-minute reviews are now taking away the refs' ability to fudge calls (e.g., "I'm not going to call a loose-ball foul with 7 seconds to go because I'm not a douche, so I'll give the fouled team the ball back because that scramble as the ball went out of bounds was a bit too pushy"), then we might as well mechanize everything else.

So what happens now? Do they give the game to us after all? Mistakes like this will happen. Whoever is in charge will have their hand slapped (Maybe). And in the end, the Blazers will still take it up the ass.

Won't be the first, def won't be the last.

Replay the last 6.1 seconds with Portland getting the ball at halfcourt. Easy Peasy.

Beverley is a pest, but I don't hold it against him so much because he had to bite and claw his way into the league. Harden, on the other hand...

Thought there was some pretty bad calls, but if we continue to finish games where we don't score in the last so many minutes, it can't continually be the fault of the refs that that happens. Hit a FT and we win the game. Maybe we win by getting a better look than an alleyoop with 8.8 seconds left. Maybe if we made more than one FG in the last what, 7 minutes? Some definite shitty calls. But some shittier play.

This. It was our fault we lost.

The flopping in this league is getting to the point of being unbearable to watch. It is a disgrace to the game. I want to watch the best athletes in the world competing at a high level, showing their speed, strength, agility and overall athleticism. I DO NOT want to watch players flailing and flopping around the court, putting so much power in the subjective hands of the officials. It is one of the reasons I HATE watching soccer, and the NBA is trending in that direction.

It was absolutely infuriating to watch Harden flop over and over. But even worse was watching him lie on the ground in a limp position, faking an injury every time he flopped. It isn't basketball, and I have no interest in watching that garbage.

Bad calls all night long on both sides. We blew the lead......I've seen nobody mention this, but CJ's 3 earlier in the night was an OBVIOUS shot clock violation...... bad calls usually even themselves out. Tough loss. Gotta' move on FAMS!

I'm not sure which is more disappointing about dropping out of the 3rd seed: losing HCA, or the fact that HOU and LAC won't meet each other in the first round. Those two teams of floppers and whiners deserve each other. The poor refs wouldn't know which team of media darlings to favor. Plus, if they face each other only one of them can advance. I refuse to watch multiple rounds of both HOU and LAC in the playoffs. They are both a discredit to the game of basketball. Whatever happened to sportsmanship in sports? It used to be you won because you played better. Now you win because you complain more and cheat.

What's even worse is that their coaches and fans both feel entitled to be able to berate the refs. OKC fans are horrible, but Brooks at least doesn't whine on every call. Pop is Pop, there's no changing him, so it doesn't really bother me. I find LAC and Houston to be unwatchable. It's ISO ball and flopping. It's a disgrace. Hopefully the Blazers sent some of this video to the league. Also, if the 5-second rule isn't going to be enforced, just get rid of it entirely. It's not a subjective call, so if it can't be enforced objectively, just get rid of it and allow teams all the time they need.

OKC has the least sophisticated fans in the entire NBA. I don't really expect Ma and Pa Kettle from the Cow Chip Capital of the World to pick up on the subtleties of the NBA game overnight, but this is the 8th season of NBA basketball in Hicksville. You think they would have learned something by now. They rabidly boo EVERY call that doesn't favor their team - even if the call is obviously correct. You're much more likely to get a make up call if you only rabidly boo the obviously blown calls.

Plus, success came too quickly to "their team" (not counting the two years the Hornets played there after Hurricane Katrina). So, they have a huge sense of entitlement. If not for the possibility he would go to the Lakers, I'd LOVE to see Durant get pissed off at playing next to a PG that freezes him out in the 4th quarter of close games and take his services elsewhere. Unlike most expansion teams that struggle for years just to get to .500, by stealing a team with a budding superstar from another city, the Thunder got all the way to 50 wins their second season in Cow Chip Town - that has given their unsophisticated fan base an enormous sense of entitlement.

Absolutely true. I think Durant is very comfortable there, unfortunately, which means unless something terrible happens to him health-wise, they have another 10 years of being competitive. I view that entire fanbase as a bunch of bandwagon fans who have no idea what it's like to watch your team struggle and build into a winner. I can at least give Houston and Clipper fans credit for being there during down years, but last night from the Houston fans was just unbearable. Booing every single call is a sign of a dumb bunch of fans, IMO. Houston has dumb fans.

I'll add that Durant is becoming very hard to watch on the court. Not for his game, but for the way he berates the refs. I don't think the players respect Adam Silver, or think he'll discipline them, and it's starting to make flopping the way to succeed. Silver needs to take a stand and show some balls. Otherwise, the playoffs are going to be unwatchable.

I like our chances against most teams in the west, but I want nothing to do with the Rockets. I don't think that series would end well for us. The refs let Beverly do whatever he wants to Dame, and Harden is the undisputed flop king of the NBA. The fact that he hasn't been suspended shows the NBA doesn't give a shit.

They could even do it as a parody, that they have a new advanced stat, FLP% that will help them evaluate future draft picks and free agents to target to insure success in today's NBA.

Maybe they could even break it out as OFLP%, DFLP% and TFLP%. That would highlight what a great flopper Hardin is at both ends of the court, compared to Beverly, who is mostly know for his great defensive flopping.

3 times late in the game, Harden showed off his new move, the cockroach-on-his-back flop. It's a masterpiece.

He falls onto his back, skidding a foot before stopping. He writhes as if sprayed with a can of Raid. His legs rotate in the air, as if pedalling a bicycle. His fingers claw at the air. He apparently has trouble breathing. As his involuntary muscle control slows and his nervous system fails into paralysis, we psychically hear him begging, in dying cockroach language, "Call a foul...I beseech thee."

You nailed it. We've completely forgotten how to win close games.

WE did lose that game, but the refs surely didn't help. I'm guessing that's the consensus.

But, there was one particular play where Harden got "shot out of a cannon" on a love tap by Matthews I believe... he fell to the floor and acted hurt... but the camera pans to his face and he has this look of "Did they call it?!" It was disgusting.

When I use to play on the play ground and someone got their ankle broke everyone laughed it off. Today's coddle generation has to act like he just got knocked out tosave his pride. Sports players as a whole are turning Into pansies.

I mentioned it in the game thread... I noticed it real time that it was still in his hand when the red light came on.. I see where you're coming from.

I think a lot of Clippers fans were Lakers fans 2 years ago.

LOL - Spot On!

That guy, although talented, is an absolute disgrace the way he carries on.

This. Well said, HCP.

My frustration isn't about refs missing calls or bad calls. I can take losing and missed calls. The frustration comes from the bastardization of the game resulting from all this flopping and injury-faking. It isn't fun or entertaining to watch.

This is called MARGINAL contact. Do you know how many coaches I have to explain this to? And NBA refs are making my job harder... Bastards... What FUCKING FLOP...
