I moved to Southern California in 1970. It took me 15 years to warm up to his legendary smooth delivery, and his allegiance to the Bums certainly didn't help.

One thing is for sure- He certainly was an encyclopedia of MLB knowledge, and baseball stories in his own unique way.

I got burned out right from the beginning of hearing Vin's commercials for Farmer John ham, bacon and sausage, in between every single Inning. But eventually after a decade and a half, he began to grow on me, somewhat.

To be honest it wasn't a baseball game, in which I first began to respect and enjoy somewhat Scully's game calling. It was the 1982 NFC championship Game, 49ers versus the Cowboys, and Dwight Clark's infamous catch from Joe Montana i.e., "The Catch"!

I got to say he was a lucky guy, calling Koufax games, and those legendary World Series of the '50s and '60s between the bums and the Yankees!

Matt….did not see your post. I, too, posted about the legendary announcer.

Truly, a great announcer for so many years. He was the epitome of greatness in his field.
A true HOF. RIP
