Yeah, he basically gets to go one-on-one, two-on-one, or (if he's having a good day) a three-on-one. He makes great choices to find the open man in great position who then in turn usually blows it.

Because he gets alot of respect from other defenders he gets overplayed on defense which results in him forcing a drive where he gets no call. Or makes a living at the stripe.

Of the so-called big three Ason Kid was better making average players better, rather than just a guy who could bring it up the court, and RJ is basically an average player without Vince to distract attention

I don't know why Vince himself clouds your view so much, as far as him being talented and well paid you get that, but I expect alot more from a fan who proclaims such a level of knowledge as yourself. He was never really suited to be the missing piece of the "big three" so hey, since you're gonna watch the season like the rest of us, please attempt to not be the authority on Vince being a "dog" ok buddy? You pretty much use Vince as the scapegoat all the flippin time, and if that's really the sum total of your basketball insight then stop muddying the waters for most of us here trying to expand the fan discouse on the board, rather than applying you customary inept and circuitious reasoning.

I understand that you have your opinion, even if it is arguing over the color of a beaten horse, so please continue by all means.

I don't like Vince because he is a heartless, gutless player. You can't fix that by putting up big stats. If he wasn't so afraid of contact, he would make his living at the FT line.

Sorry, Vince is a dog, and biggest mistake Ratner has made was resigning Vince.

Sure, he doesn't care at times. But even "without caring" he shoots a decent percentage, passes well and does+say the right things. At his salary, he's pretty affordable. Remember, if he played like he can ALL the time, he's a 22m/Yr player. He's only getting 14. Prorated, he's allowed to put in 63% of effort.

Yeah I'm simplifying and it makes no sense in real situation, but you get the point.

he obviously cares; he just doesn't demonstrate it the way you want him to. Maybe he makes bad decisions at times, but that doesn't mean that he doesn't care. Maybe he is overly reliant on his three-point shot, but that doesn't mean that he doesn't care. Maybe at times he falls apart on defense, but that doesn't mean that he doesn't care. You have to accept him for what he is, and that includes his personality and brain type.

To demonstrate that you are trying hard, does it require you to scream and yell? Look, we've all seen players that don't care at all. We've also seen players that are just so good and effortless, that it looks like they aren't trying when they are giving full effort (such as former baseball player Eric Davis). I just think that the premise that Carter doesn't care is erroneous. Of course, I've never met him, but if I did, it would be the second thing I'd ask him (the first, of course, would be to finally challenge him to that footrace). He may not be unhealthily, obsessively competitive on the level of Kobe Bryant, but that shouldn't be the standard, right? He may not be a great leader (although infinitely better than Jason Kidd), but most of the world isn't great leaders in whatever they do. I see Carter as someone who cares, but also cares about maintaining a balanced, healthy lifestyle, and who can fault him for that? Certainly not me.
 
I dont know why people waste their energy quoting MisterMontross and try to debate/argue with his beliefs, no matter what you do, he "wants" to stick with his belief, no matter how hard you out-debate him. So i suggest people stop trying to change his beliefs.
 
the question is who "cares" about winning more than vince? maybe 2% of all nba players? that's very impressive if you ask me...

It's true, he did roll over in about half the Nets' playoff games since he came to NJ. How much of that was fully on him, and how much can be blamed on having sub-par teammates who weren't carrying their load either is something everyone can think about themselves. However, as has been pointed out, he has missed just a handful of games over the years, and obviously he has been banged up and bruised. So, clearly, on some level he "cares"--otherwise he just wouldn't play.

Maybe you have reasonable complaints about Vince, and maybe not, but I just don't think that "not trying hard" makes sense. I don't think it is what you mean. Maybe you mean that he doesn't play hard CONSISTENTLY, but that is different. Possibly you aren't explaining your opinion as well as you could.

You think this is a debate? I'm just giving my opinion based on my observations.

You think you can change what I've observed?

You can't change the past.

Vince could change my opinion of him from this point on, if he played like he cared about the game and about real, winning NBA basketball..
