We don't need him to create shots for other players. Clearly that isn't helping the team. What he needs to do is start playing like a superstar. Carter needs to get aggressive and drive the ball. How hard is that to comprehend?

I'm not blaming him for the season either, even though he's playing like a goddamn role player. No one needs that from a guy who's making 60 million over the next few years.

Replace his scoring? Not many players can, but considering Carter plays hard only half of the time, does it matter?

The argument about Carter's "heart" will remain a mystery to me, since I distinguish heart from consistency. Criticism usually (really, always) comes after he has bad games; specifically, shooting wise. To say it's a motivation might be a stretch; is it that he's not focusing enough about his release during his jumpshot motions?

I'd be interested in what your specific perceptions are. In what ways do you see Vince dogging it?

Joker I wasn't addressing you specifically, merely asking for specific insight from everybody. I won't argue that it takes more effort to drive into the paint the way he does, and he doesn't do that as much lately, I can't blame him in this context (this context being after the Houston game). We still need shooting on this team, and our inability to hit the 3 last game makes me wonder if an issue as simple as 'consistency' was causing some confounding on people's perceptions of his effort.

for me i dont put all of the blame on carter... its true in the previous post... our team cannot shoot the ball even when they are WIDE OPEN... we get so many good looks and its BRICK after BRICK... i mean even with no defensive pressure... boki, rj, harris, m.williams, krstic and even carter cant make open shots... so when a team cant shoot from outside... the oposing team makes defensive adjustments and just clogs the middle to defend the drive... heh...

When healthy, Vince Carter doesn't drive to the hoop enough, doesn't play enough defense and doesn't run the fast break (although who knows if that'll change with a new point guard). I think all of these things are true, I think it's hard to build a successful team around considering the size of his contract, and I really hope the Nets trade him when they can get fair value for him.

With all of that said, the man is playing hurt for a terrible basketball team. You guys really want to complain that he isn't pushing his body to extreme limits so that the Nets might earn the distinction of being the worst ever NBA team to make the playoffs. I mean, even D-Wade shut it down this year.

Vince has his moments where he drives me nuts, but this isn't one of them. This is just called rebuilding, and it's got a lot more to do with the talent on the floor than the effort being put in.

I understand where you're coming from but for me it's getting tiresome to read all these post bashing Vince, In my honest opinion I don't see him going anywhere this summer, I can see Thorn changing the coaching staff around, maybe not Frank but his assistants, I don't think you can keep trading players away season after season, it's evident that this team and the team before the trade wasn't/isn't responding to Frank. I can't sit here and blame Vince for this teams struggles on offense or defense , everyone should be held accountable but they're not, Kidd faked (I sincerely believe he did) a migraine becasue he didn't recieve and extension

Singling out Carter is absurd. The man is upping his all-around game while playing on a bum ankle. Give it a rest. He brings more to the table than scoring. (See his rebounding and shotblocking and playmaking today when his shot was off). This team is playing and shooting horrifically. How many touches does Carter now get per game? He isn't even the primary scoring option anyway. RJ has assumed that mantle and is doing a good job of putting the ball into the bucket. He doens't provide much else, but thats where Carter's versatility come into play in creating shots for others.

I did see how he played in Toronto. And I can see how he's playing now. And from that information, I deduce that he is, in fact, not dogging it, but is actually hurt.

Besides, half the reason he wanted to leave Toronto is because he didn't want to deal with getting an ass-whipping from Sam Mitchell every other day. I like Lawrence Frank, but Carter's not going to have that problem in Jersey.

I'm confused about how a guy who can create a shot for others can have such bad shot selection for himself.

For most of last night everyone that was taking shots took good shots, but Vince was mostly taking horrible shots. A lot of out of rhythm and off balance attempts. Very strange. Everyone else got them in the flow of the offense, but Vince felt the need to force things.

true those guys couldn't get it done, but they also didn't have a top 5 PG and an all-star SF playing with them either....

you actually need to be selected into the all-star game to be an "all-star SF" and also, that "top 5 PG" can't shoot so combine that with the nets never having a good low-post scorer and shooter so you don't really need brains to figure out that all teams had to do was load up on carter all these years with rj being injured most of the time since vc arrived in jersey...now that rj is healthy, vc messes up his ankle early in the season...
the nets managed for a while when we had a medium range threat in nenad then in mikki moore when krstic went down but not this season...
