<div class="quote_poster">Carter Wrote</div><div class="quote_post"><font color=""Red"">Answer_A103, I agree sometimes AMS_ice praises Kidd too much, and hates on Carter too much, but there is no need to insult him. If all your gonna do here is make stupid posts which may offend other members, I suggest you change with your ways or else you'll be getting in trouble soon enough.</font></div>

Its not that I hate Vince, in fact I enjoy watching him. It's just funny how others find a way to bash Kidd using Vince. Well anyway. The fact is, Jason Kidd and Vince Carter are on the same team. And no matter how others try to pit them against each other, they are on 1 team. And truth is they both respect each other and like playing together. The Nets have a "big three". Which can't be said for the others.

Why are you guys bashing each others Fav Teams and Players? Stick on topic please.

Ok now it's really getting out of hand. I am giving <u>one</u> more warning or else I will ask a Mod to close this thread.

Each of my posts have had a point, and for the people who dont understand them, i will reiderate: the nets should trade carter now and not take the chance of loosing him later, because there is a pretty decent chance that he could leave. The nets are in need of some good on man defenders, and some tougher post players. I think alot of teams would want carter right now and would be willing to give up fair value for him. Furthermore, if Carter was gone Jefferson could step up and take his place as the teams #1 option. He is an extremely well rounded player, and probably a top 5 in athletisism in the league. He can pass shoot, and maybe the second best rebounding sf in the league. (next to marion). I think the nets would do better anyway if carter wasnt there taking up shots. A team offensive system is whats needed here.

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">I think alot of teams would want carter right now and would be willing to give up fair value for him.</div>

Which teams exactly and who would they give up?

Why would some teams want to trade for him if they believe that he will leave NJ when he is a freeagent? All they would have to do is wait.

because teams who dont have the money to sign him can make a trade for him, and at the same time, if they loose carter they have cap room when he leaves. For some reason i just dont see carter staying in jersey

Carter is still a good player, but as good as he is, his stock has considerably gone down from what it used to be. Teams won't gamble too much for Carter. The best situation for him is with the Nets. Truth is New Jersey won't be able to get an equal trade for Vince. Unless a straight up trade is made or if the Nets can get a 4 or 5, their better off waiting out Carter's contract and take their chances till the end of the season. It's a different situation for Carter. In his first few years, Carter was considered a monster player and every other team wants him. He's stats may have been consistent but his value has dipped throught the years. In 10 seasons, Carter has been Rookie of the Year/All Rookie Team (1999), All NBA Second team (2001), All NBA Third Team (2000) and Slam Dunk Champ (2000). Not really much for a player who's hype was so big when he came into the league, he was one of the players dubbed as the next Michael Jordan.

^Do injuries mean nothing to you? Same thing is happening to Amare. He could have been a top 50 all-time player, but he's lost explosiveness, the key to his game, and will never be the same.

Carter is still top 5 sg in the league. i think alot of teams would want him if they thought he was on the block. I think it would do them some good to get rid of him now and get some good bigs back. How could he turn down playing with Howard and Darko in Orlando? or get a ton of money from charlette? i think he will more than likely leave.

Yeah, this was the exact same situation Toronto was in. He's an amazing player, but its just his attitude is very annoying. That's why Toronto didn't want anything to do with him after he left, everyone was like "good riddance", even though if he was here now, we'd be doing really well. It is true, Carter did fizzle out after he got injured, but i think the problem is you expect him to be all flashy and showy, thats why it doesnt seem like much when he does it, but if someone else were to do it when they havent done anything much, people would take notice. Carter peaked too fast, and stayed there so everyone expects him to do amazing things, and if he doesnt, people would just think he sucks. But a lot of teams would want him still.

Carter would be smart to stay in New Jersey, just because Kidd is exactly what Carter needs. New Jersey needs Carter and Carter seems to be willing to play hard with Kidd, so signing him to a multi-year contract isn't too big a risk.

Carter on Orlando would make an interesting team, if Orlando had the money to do it.

Because he has Kidd.

Vince would still be a top 5 SG in the league without Kidd.

Carter would still be a great scorer and good passer without Kidd, its just that Kidd brings leadership and is willing to take the blame if they lose. Something that Carter needs Kidd to do.

Kidd has never taken blame his whole life. I dont see how he would start taking blame all of a sudden. Carter always gets blamed. Blame from toronto fans, blame from the all star game when he almost didnt let Jordan start infront of him, blame for losing the 76'ers playoff game because he went to his graduation. Blamed for being a whiner, and always getting hurt. Jason Kidd....? The good thing about Kidd is that he never gets lazy when playing, he always plays hard, thats why he never gets blamed.

<div class="quote_poster">AMS_ice Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">Because he has Kidd.</div>

Carter was established before joining up with Kidd. But then again Carter would not have won the slam dunk contest or got into the Olympics and won for the team or got into the playoffs with the Raptors without Kidd either. He also wouldnt have dunked over the 7' german guy during the Olympics without Kidd either.

Carter will probably stay in New Jersey. I don't get why everyone thinks that the Magic will have so much money to sign him with. Sure, they are currently in the position for a lot of cap room in 2007 (around 12-13 million dollars), BUT that's without taking into account Darko's contract extension, which is right around the corner, and will take up anywhere from 6-10 million dollars off their cap, leaving them with considerably less money than he will be able to get from the Nets through the Larry Bird rule (contract extension while you're over the cap). Also, Dwight Howard is eligible for a big contract extension in 2007, leaving the Magic with very little, if any, cap room. Carter is set to earn 16 million in 2007-2008 if he doesn't opt out with the Nets, much more than the Magic can afford to give him, plus a contract extension with the Nets for a few years after that season which would pay him, IMO, around 7-12 million a season. Unless Carter will be willing to take a HUGE pay cut to join the Magic, they're not a contender for him.

So with Orlando out of the equation, he's left with two choices: New Jersey and Charlotte. VC went to college in UNC, so that's a plus for Charlotte, who will also have tons of money. But, Charlotte aren't going to be a contender for at least 2-4 years, and I'm not sure that:

a) Carter would want to go to a team that's currently building a roster and isn't going to contend for anything for the near future

or

cool.gif
Charlotte would want to blow a lot of their money on an aging superstar who's at the end of his prime.

Basicly, that leaves the Nets. End of story.

You can also look at this from a Nets' perspective. Carter's going to be demanding another big payout and long term deal. When you look at this team, how long is their time frame? You have the leader in Kidd, who's begun to noticeably age. Carter himself is reaching his peak and his new deal will take him well past his prime. And then you've got some great young talent in Jefferson, Krstic, Marcus Williams, etc. My point is that this current roster is built to win now. But, if it looks like that might not happen (eg: they'll continue to get eliminated in the 2nd/3rd round), is it worth burdening yourself with long-term contracts that could stop you from building a solid team around the young core?

Obviously the Nets aren't going to let Carter go away. It would be a PR disaster and set them back substantially. But, if they can't seriously contend, you have to wonder about how Carter's deal will impact them in the future.

LOL, ok ok i know where ur headed. I just came to the realization today that I dont like Carter all that much either

I think these are good points. I think Carter should focus on the upcoming season first and go from there. And unless New Jersey can get an equal trade for Carter now, I think it's best to wait out his contract. Chutney's right, the Nets right now are equipped to be contenders. Jason Kidd will let it all hangout this season, if Carter will be on the same page, along with Jefferson and Krstic, the Nets will be difficult to stop. Carter is a great athlete, theres no question about that. Carter's problem is he's trying to prove too much, to himself, his peers, the fans, and in turn, makes his game forced. I've said this time and time again, he should let the game come to him. He shouldn't worry to much with shots. He will get his share, and make no mistake about it, Jason Kidd will get him the ball. He has to learn more to make use of his teammates. With that in check, and injury free (knock on wood), Kidd, Carter and Jefferson will give Shaq, Wade and Co. a run for their championship!

<div class="quote_poster">AMS_ice Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">Kidd, Carter and Jefferson will give Shaq, Wade and Co. a run for their championship!</div>

That will never happen

<div class="quote_poster">intrepid1983 Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">That will never happen</div>

Why not? Wade and the lack of a bench was the killer for us last season. We can compete with the Heat.

nets have no answer for shaq, or wade, or the other vets that they still have on their team. kidd, carter, and jefferson can only go so far.

<div class="quote_poster">Answer_AI03 Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">nets have no answer for shaq, or wade, or the other vets that they still have on their team. kidd, carter, and jefferson can only go so far.</div>

Collins for Shaq and Kidd for Wade.

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">shaq</div>

Shaq didn't even hurt the Nets. He was close to being a non factor. Either he is really slowing down, or it was Collins that really shut him down.

collins is actually a pretty adaquette post defender but kidd guarding wade this year? i dont know about that. wade isnt even in his prime yet, and hes still a top 10 player in the league. i know kidds a good on man defender but i dont think anyone is going to slow down wade. plus the heat have a very well rounded team and a deep bench.

New Jersey will always be listed in the 7th or 8th spot of the Eastern Conference. They cannot compete with the likes of Detroit or Miami right now and to a lesser extent Chicago. I feel Chicago is going to have a breakout year this season with Wallace.
